ankle Tat infected... HELP!!

4 messages · last activity 7/13/2008

I got a Tattoo about 10 days ago & It is red around the tat & has some scabbing. There were small chunks of color & scab that came off. I am taking Amoxicillin for something else & was wondering if this antibiotic will work with the infection in my tattoo or do you think I should go to a Dr. for some other antibiotic. Also where the little chunks came off is there still going to be some color on it after it heals or will the pigment of the tat be gone from those spots. Right now my heart looks like a leopard with the sore spots. Oh I am putting Aguaphor on it but have read that AD ointment will work as well. Is this true? Because all the forums I have read says that any antibacterial ointment will clog the pores & cause an infection. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate. Thanks, Kris
Hello, I got my first tattoo about the same time you did and it's right dab smack in the middle or my upper foot between my ankles. Probably not the best place with flexing the foot walking which impacts the very top of it.. At the end of the day with walking my foot gets very red and swollen but in the morning it is fine. My foot is still slightly swollen in the area and it has some red around the outline of the tat which is probably bruising and it is more scabby on one side than the other. The bottom of the tat has a flat scab and looks good but the flower part on one side has a very bumpy scab with the other side flatter. It is hard to say what it's going to look like once it is all healed but I am hopeful it will be lovely. None of the scabs look like they are coming off anytime soon. The problem I am having is that I pour warm water and a antibacterial foam soap over it, rinse and let it air dry. but once I put lotion on it once it is a air dried (Lubiderm ) and stings, burn and get extremely red. I've never been allergic to any lotions before and I've used two others before I just bought the Lubiderm. I am not really sure when you can forgo the lotion part. I want it to start to dry up and drop off the scab and I'm thinking keeping it moist is preventing the healing process. Any suggestions out there? I can't call the artist as I was on vacation in Hawaai when I had it done and the time change is a problem. Thanks M.

Don't know if that is a problem. The major problem I am having is that I pour warm water and a antibacterial foam soap over it, rinse and let it air dry, then once I put on the lotion (Lubiderm ), wow it stings, burn and get extremely red. Thanks for replying to my post. I went to the Dr the other day & she gave me a antibiotic cream (prescription). Like you when I wake in the morning the redness seems less noticable but by the end of the day WOW!! It is really red & looks like SHIT!! I got 2 hearts together one with my initial & one with hubbies initial. The one with his initial is the one not healing. My heart with initial healed just fine. Now call me crazy but I am thinking this is a bad omen!! I am hoping that in the next couple of weeks it will be completely healed. Like you I am hoping it looks good when it is healed. Good Luck Kris
