I have heard of creams to remove tattoos before, but I have never heard of any that worked very well. I haven't heard of this specific one though.
Glycolic Acid is what they use in a Facial Peel (cosmetic procedure)... it strips the old, dead, yucky layers of skin off with acid to reveal the young and fresh skin below.
Although, I'm not sure how this would work with a tattoo. Either they're using a very strong (and painful!!) solution, or it's a repeat-customer type deal. Either way, it prolly isn't as successful as laser.
Sure I have heard of it...had a guy using the stuff in my area...we were kept busy tattooing over and coverib\ng up the scars that were caused....thats just one asshole thogh...maybe your artist knows something all the rest of us don't!!
From what I understand, glycolic acid is actually tattood into the skin and gradually brings the pigment to the surface, where it breaks down and is absorbed... it still takes several treatments but is purported to scar less than laser treatments if done right.
That's what I've heard anyways. I found a few pictures on BME of tattoos removed this way... this search should pull up a guy's pics and corresponding story... or just search "glycolic" on BME if it doesn't work.

Urgh. I wish there was an "edit" button. I always forget things.
Glycolic acid is something they've used to TREAT scars (i.e. keloid scars) at higher strengths... because it softens the scar tissue. Now, I have NO idea what strength they use for tattoo removal, but its conceivable that's why it scars less, because even as tattooing leaves a scar, the acid is making the scar tissue less tough and less visible - a possible advantage over laser surgery.
Thx 4 the feedback everyone,I just found out they use 10%,and in my mind,it heals 10 tymez better than lazer,I have done both of them,it works pretty fast on fresh tattoos 2...........
tattooed hands...thanks for the info! I will have to do some research!!!...T

Oh bullshit....ask Gabe ( the owner of Tattoonow and Off the Map Tattoo)...He is having a lot of laser removal done and apparently vrey successfully....the art of laser removal has progressed in leaps and bounds just in the past couple of years....yes there are haks out there who will fuck you up...do your research!...Its just like getting a tattoo....make dure the person doing the proceedure is reputable BEFORE ya get it done!!!
Hmmm.... Tattoo removal.... should be painful and should scar.
cover-up yeah... Removal no...
Do your research first... It was your mistake not the artist.. unless it wasn't what you asked for. That's the only reason for removal... IMHO.
PERMANENT art should be permanent. A good artist puts their time, and effort into to trying to bring you something beautiful.
ok dick head,lazer sucks
Sure lser sucks if ya go to a HACK!...Laser removal can be VERY successful if done by a professional who knows what they are doing
Don't care i rather do glycolic acid
Tattoo removal
While tattoos are considered permanent, it is possible, to varying degrees, to remove them. Complete removal, however, is often not possible, and the expense and pain of removing them typically will be greater than the expense and pain of applying them. Some jurisdictions will pay for the voluntary removal of gang tattoos.
Tattoos removal is most commonly performed using lasers that react with the ink in the tattoo, and break it down. The broken-down ink is then absorbed by the body. This technique often requires many repeated visits to remove even a small tattoo, and may result in permanent scarring.
A newer method of removal is by tattooing glycolic acid into the skin with a tattoo machine: the acid pushes the ink to the surface of the skin in the scab, which is later removed. This method purportedly scars less than laser techniques. Glycolic acid is also used for facial peels; when used for tattoo removal, a lower percentage mix is used.
Some wearers opt to cover an unwanted tattoo with a new tattoo. This is commonly known as a coverup or cover-up. An artfully done cover-up may render the old tattoo completely invisible, though this will depend largely on the size, style, colours and techniques used on the old tattoo. Some shops and artists use laser removal machines to break down and lighten undesired tattoos to make coverage with a new tattoo easier.
Overall, green-based ink is the most difficult to remove. Black ink is most readily broken down by the laser, and unprofessional tattoos done at home are the easiest ones to remove, due to the low quality of ink used, as well as the ineffective manner in which they were applied.
Don't know where ya got yer info but...NOPE!!
Glycolic acid has been used for decades and is no better now than it was when I saw it done 25 years ago...still sucks!
We will see,who the hell gave you your info???yes it does work,i think, lol
glycolic is readily available at most drug stores but to remove a cosmetic tatoo with it can take several years cause it a light exfoliation,to help it along you could get professional peels but this would just lighten it a little.I had a lip liner tatoo removed with the needle opening it then putting glycolic acid into the cut letting it scab then the ink and scab form a crust which then falls off.You could also try tat b gone a cream remover which takes patience and strict routine.Hope I helped.
Or you could try a spinning round house kick to your face.
To Tattooed Hands:
Tattoos are made by depositing ink in your third layer of skin (hypodermis).
the Hypodermis is a very stable skin tissue that's way ink stays.
The Epidermis is the 1st layer of skin that constantly regenerates (shedding).
Most abrasive procedures like "Acid" peel the first layer of skin, and depending the intensity of the product they reach the 2d layer of skin.
If you are trying to remove a tattoo with acid think of a 3 layer skin melt down.
If you do so, most likely you are going to end up with a bubble gum tissue,
equally to a third degree burning.
Laser has been proven to be really successful since with advanced technology different color of laser beams design to target the different colors.
The laser specifically targets the ink particle in your third layer of skin and breaks it into smaller particles.
Your lymphatic system will start eliminating the small particles resulting in a faded tattoo. After several sessions (depending on the quality of ink used, color of pigment and spot in the body) the tattoo will disappear. In some cases up to 15-20 sessions are needed. The absolute disappearance of the tattoo is not guaranteed.
I have personally seen tattoos gone completely.
I will not attempt to apply acid on my skin, unless some DR. can guarantee results, if so seek for professional intervention.
Nothing like putting glycolic acid under the skin melt skin melt it's acid the word alone should be enough, ACID what part of that do we not understand.
i used acid for my tat and i think it works a little becouse the peel that came off was all black so that has to be ink i want to do lazer but that shit is a grip will see how it goes even if it is kinnda a scar thats better then the tat to me
Mei-cha.com sells glycolic acid to remove tattoos. However they only sell it to someone who has had training in tattoo removal. I havce seen it done, and yes if done wrong it does leave a scar. It is a long painful process. The longer the process the better results. If you try to apply too much acid it will just damage the skin. Like someone else said maybe they prefer a scar than an unwanted tattoo. It is used a lot to remove permanent make-up. Mostly used imidiately after unwanted pigment applied.
Good luck all hope it was helpful.
I wouldnt suggest anything but a high quality laser guy with the proper equipment. Indeed, I have a lot of lasering that needs doing, and have had some in the past.
Any type of acid is going to leave scar tissue and be had to control the direction and quality of. I refer to when I was 15 and built an acid bomb from a two liter bottle, the works bathroom cleaner and tin foil. it splashed a buddy of mines trench coat with a few little dots that ate foot ball size holes in the cloth. i think cover-ups would be a better idea or like Johnny Depp who had Winona Forever on his arm and had it fixed to read wino forever. The cure for it all. be sure the tattoo is something youre going to want later down the road. art is art. Dont be stupid about it.
don't do it!!!!!!!!!!! i have seen massivs scars!!!! i recently got some tattoo work removed and wrote a story with pictures about it. you can check it out at www.mhough.com. i wrote it to help anyone get information or make a decision about removal. hope it helps!
I've recently seen the results of someone using Glycolic Acid to remove a tattoo and the scaring was the most horrific thing i have seen in my 15 years of tattooing. Looked extreamly painful and I wouldn't recomend it. I personaly have had four treatments of laser removal and havn't had any resulting in scars.
I do not think Glycolic will remove a tattoo. I use Glycolic, and have used it on clients. It may lighten the area, but only after several uses. Each session you have with Glycolic you increase the number of minutes you leave on your skin. Not going over 7 minutes, you may need about 20 sessions to see any change. You must use a dis-incrustation fluid (baking soda and water) to activate the Glycolic. Glycolic can leave serious burns on your skin, FYI, I have seen it on Ebay. Stay away from the 100% Glycolic, it may be fake. I have a license to use the product and can not use 100%. I believe only Doctors can, and why would they sell this on Ebay... You are better off have laser treatments....hope this helps.
Another thing to think about, people with Ethnic Skin should never use Glycolic...forgot to mention that in my other blog....
Glycolic-was used to soften leather
hi just to let ya know ive had this done, it dont hurt at all and the tattoo went really quick i had the tattoo done about 6 years ago and it has come off really well. you can not see it at all im really pleased with my results.
i think this is a breakthrough i cant belive my results at all so if you was thinking of having it done i would defo say go for it x x
also my tat was removed by someone who dose semi perminant makeup so it a bit diffrent to havin a tat less painful.
it was gone in about 10 sessons costing £60 for each sesson.
it is done by using the tattoo gun with glycolic acid and is not painful at all at any point of treatment what so ever during or after and i have no scar what so ever.
i think if ya considering having it done you need to find someone who is a pro at what they do.
so people dont boo hoo this till you see the great results that can be reached x x x
mt tat was about 10cm in length and about 2cm in height and was a celtic band with a flower in the middle.
Well, were gonna find out, im a 30 year pro. tattoo vet wth a black tribal across my forehead, I got busted wth some weed and my ass is going straight to prison if I show up in court in this hick county wth this tribal on my head...Ive got a 60% solution which a friend of mine supplied me with, she was trained in cosmetic tattooing and told me that this shit does work so tonight we WILL find out and thatll be the end of it...here in about 10 min. im hitting it wth an 11 flat mag and some 30% lidocain mix just cause the forehead hurts like hell believe that so guys and gals Ill let ya know...fuck it, scars or whatever< I aint scared
Ok, as I previousley stated, ive just counter tattooed this tribal on my forehead with a-and I stand corrected because I said a 60% solution, it was a 30% solution of glycolic acid, I used an 11 flat mag, I went over it 3 times and crosshatched, before you pass judgement, I am closing in on 30 years of professional tattooing having worked in at least 9 diff shops over this expanse, I worked two years for Danny fowlers ancient art for one so I do have a clue as to the hazards that I have just exposed myself to but im old enoughf to realize that im not going to live forever and I can live wth the results whatever they may be, Ive already dealt wth tattoo induced skin cancer over a re-called red that left me wth a cancerous growth on my right bicep which I had removed, us old school guys didnt have the information available to you new generation artists, we learned the hard way by trial and error and some of us paid some pretty harsh dues over the years so this as I see it will lay this debate to rest once and for all...the forehead hurts like hell to begin with so I applied a 30% lidocain solution, it barley made a difference at all, if youve never had 11 needles bouncing off of your skull, well that says it all anyhow, afterwards I rubbed a liberal amount of the acid over the opened area, saying that it burned worse than the 7th level of the devils hell would be an understatement, I stood like 10 seconds of this and ran to the sink...I will add to this post in days to come as to the process of healing and sucsess, I think that I will begin an antibiotic regiment such as ampicillin or keflex just to be safe, Ill let you all know how this turns out...I hope my head doesnt fall off.
To the people who think the word "Acid" should be enough to scare you, consider this. Vinegar is 5% Acetic ACID. Oranges and Lemons have Citric ACID.
Glycolic Acid is a gentle acid (up to 10% concentration) that is used to remove dead skin cells. I hadn't heard of it being injected into the skin by a tatoo artist to break down the ink, though in theory it makes sense.
People who scar easily should obviously do a tiny trial run in an inconspicuous body part before committing to remove a tattoo, no matter what the size of the tattoo is.
I've been using laser to remove my badly done tattoo and after 3 sessions I can see it lightening and fading quite a bit. The black has lightened considerably and the red parts are fading too. I wear sunscreen on it at all times because I dont' want extra damage to my melanin with the laser process (the laser can burn you if you're tanned).
I use a store bought glycolic acid peel (Neostrate Peeling Solution) when I start to scab a week after laser. This scab is what is holding onto the ink, you want it off your body. Picking at it WILL scar you, so don't pick... use a gentle glycolic acid peel (the liquid type, not the grainy scrub type)
Good luck removing your tattoos.
I just bought it off eBay. Now I'm doing all my research so that I know what I'm doing before it gets here.
I tried Glycolic acid around 7 years ago...Heres my theory...Buy a 10 dollar chinese machine, buy a 40 dollar bottle of the acid(which is useless unless you put it in every month for a year) Then buy some disposables. The tecnique that Ive found for getting rid of bad areas is to hit straight down, not at an angle. My thoughts are if I tattoo shop offers this as a service then they dont know what they are doing anyway so why pay for something that really doesnt work. It will remove enough to make a decent cover up happen but thats about it. Hope you arent covered with bad ones...hehehe ur in for a ride:)
Youve got it wrong ,
tattooing glycolic acid into skin is the old school method called the variot and really when you think about it its stupid , your tattooing the skin with a skin peel !!! So let it peeel , glcolic acid is designed so carefully that its the best trigger to remove an unwanted tattoo !
By using it as a skin peel over your tAt2 couldnt be simpler
what you. Need ( glycolic acid skin peel , 10% > 75% depending on skin sensitiviy which shud be checked before using on tat2 , box of bi carbonate soda , 1 litre of luke warm water , )
Wash skin , towel dry , blot with tissue , apply glycolic acid evenly on tat2 , leave for 4/5 mns , (Add two table sppons of bi carb to the water as this is used to neutralize the acid as the bicarb is an alkalie )
rinse with bicarb. Blot area dry and apply some antiseptic cream
Now the fun begins
Whats happened is the top layer of skin has. Been taken off but the molecules in the acid are small enough to penetrate the skin to the point of were the tattoo sits and further , causeing the body to recognize new tissue growth and the new skin starts to generate pushing the ink to rize towards the surface as the skin is shredding ?
After a few treatments tattoos vanish iv used it on 4 of my tattoos and 3 were quite. Large iv not been left with any scars and yet my tattoos have been completly removed ,
I did my research it paid off i do t regret haveing the tattoos , i dont regret removeing them , i had no problems what so ever
Hi. I recently got my eyebrows tattooed and one of my arches is higher than the other and I hate it! I have tried clay to lighten it so far and it has lightened quite a bit. Iam skeptical about laser because I have heard that it could have a bad effect and turn your tattoo black. I do not want BLACK eyebrows. I already hate them as it is! :( so my options now are injected glycolic acid or injected saline treatments. I want what is the safest and also most effective. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
