NO and I mean NO Tattoo artist who considers himself a professional will do parties PERIOD!!!!
TAz
Funny, there is a thread called "tattooing in hotel rooms" currently on another forum (which I got unjustly banned from) where a lot of tattoo 'pros' are defending the practice...The same artists who have kicked people off that site for admitting to tattooing out of their homes, or not out of a shop, are now basically saying well it's ok if we or our friends do it but not you.
Just to be clear, I do not support so called private tattoo parties, I am not impressed with the practice of tattooing in hotel rooms, and can't imagine doing it myself were I to become a pro artist...I'm just griping at the hypocracy of Holier-than-thou pros who claim there is no grey area in scratcher vs pro behavior ban people from a site and label them scratchers and then proceed to excuse an equivalent activity in themselves...am I missing something?
sorry, forgot to dsign that...
i do not do it personaly ,but how is it any different than tattooing in a hotel conference room.......lets say .....at a convention?

Very good point mesiano...which is exactly why I no longer do conventions at all...and there is a holier than thou attitude at times with some pros....The ONLY place I tattoo is in my shop...I have seen some horrendous and scary proceedures at conventions.
AS far as parties go ...what happens at parties( and conventions!)?...People are partying...now unless this is a party serving punch and cake...people are getting DRUNK...DRUNK PEOPLE SHOULD NOT GET TATTOOED PERIOD!!...there are sooo many reasons...from being a moving target to making a possible life altering decision while inebriated...not to mention that it is illegal to tattoo a drunk in most locales....and at conventions what do they serve? ALCOHOL!!!!!
I try not to be a hypocrite and I try not to use the term "scratcher"
AND it seems there are double standards in this biz...just think befored ya ink!!!...
Caribou as usual ya bring up shit that most never think about and I appreciate yer posts......DAMMITTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAz
Oh and Caribou...ya got banned from another forum?...GOOD! ...now ya can spend more time here dammit!,,T
I have done parties, but before everyone freaks, let me explain.....I have a huge trailer, and inside it I have a complete shop set up, complete with salon chair and exam table in the work area, seperate room for sterilization, all the walls and counters are stainless, the floors are done in really nice hospital white tile,
I generally take it on the road when I go to Daytona, Sturgis, and the big ABATE parties. i have an awning that covers a 10x20 foot area on the side, I enclose the awning area with tables and have my wife sell T-shirts and show flash from this area, she also keeps the rif-raf in line and keeps them from barging in the trailer while Im working. I dont go to peoples homes and set up. and I dont condone drinking before hand, and have sent people packing that wanted to get something done while smashed.
so im just curious, is it a bad thing that I go to these events and set up? now keep in mind I am a freakishly clean person, and I do everything by the book.
however in the same respect, I dont agree with someone buying one of those cheap "suitcase kits" and setting up at some adolescent keg party. thats just a case of Hep waiting to happen.
so yes there are double standards to this issue, and everyone has made some really good points.
Not for nothing, but I can easily see the difference between a scratcher tattooing clueless people at some college frat party and professionals at a convention tattooing each other (or serious collectors) after hours in a hotel room.
As far as banning people from forums, we have been very lucky to have a board that polices itself very well and we havnt banned anyone (though I have a few spam killer scripts). I understand that not all forums have the same luck, but I know a few artists that have been banned from popular online tattoo communities that dont deserve it. As with anything, if they dont want you there, then they dont deserve you...
Oh, and to be clear, I do not know *any* talented professionals who will tattoo at a party. they work best in their own environment and are so busy in their comfortable safe place that there is absolutely no reason to do a party.
Mortis...in your situation and knowing what I know about you I would have no problem getting tattooed in your rolling tattoo shop..
But I got no skin left man!!!....TAz
Gawd.........tattoo parties? Someone shoot me. Is that like a Tupperware or Avon party only instead of some plastic or cheap liipstick you can get a butterfyl on your ass? COME on people. Tattoo parties should be henna or stickers for kids.
Ack!
If you're that clear that they must be clean and sterile, why not just go to a shop? For what it's worth, there are tattoo artists out there that, if you make arrangements to bring a certain amount of people in, they'll shut the shop down and you can have your party there. No booze or drugs of course, but at least its professional.
