Apprenticing stuggles

About 2 years ago i went to a shop seeking an appreniceship. the owner took one look at my art said it was crap but to come back again with new work in a month, so i did. This has continued for 2 years and my artwork is up to a profressional level. i put away the color pencils took water coloring classes to improve my colors. i have read almost every book out there on artists the history and the health codes to follow. i have even been welcomerd to observe and ask questions in the shop while others are tattooed. i love this website for its access to advice and help. The only tattoo machine i own isnt used for tattooing but building rebuilding and understanding its functions and how to tune it. I advise anyone out there trying to break into the field to do the same a professional can teach you but its up to you how bad you want to make it. i am now next in line to apprentice and will work at the studio i have been going to. dont be cocky and buy a 125.00 "kit" learn the field and its history, I would love to hear from some artists as to what they think of my approche.
Sounds like you were being tested and started your apprenticeship about 2 years ago. Good for you for going along with it AND really doing what it takes to better yourself. The shop/owner/artist must have seen potential in you. Good Luck!
