areas of tattoo swelling

My husband had a tattoo on his lower leg about a year ago...it was completed at least 6 mths ago...the mengenta area is very swollen and itchy...it seems to be getting worse...does anyone know the cause and what can be done about it? it's not infected...thanks

magenta swollwen and itchy!!!! sounds like alllergys to me hard saying without seeing it personaly or by pic.ive got allergys and stress causing a rather bothersome rash coming up in areas that have had ink for years.any history of allergies have ya changed body soap shampoo laundry soap recently.have ya got a new pet .if the tattoo is 6 months or older then it should and probably is by now completely healed. the combination of allergic factors are enormous. the best ya can do is keep track of everthing and i mean every thing things like meds,counter and over the counter soaps,clothes,what allergen plants are at trees are high this time of year.molds the list goes on. try some cortizone cream to start if matter does become bothersome and uncomfartable to the point of loosing your mind then a doc visit is in order and ya can go from there. hope this helps ( don)
