Aspiring apprentice looking for portfolio critique

3 messages · last activity 10/21/2010

Hello y'all! My name is Megan and I am a 25 artist who is trying to gain an apprenticeship. I am interested in your opinions of my work. I have included a link at the bottom of my post. My portfolio has several different medium and includes both finished and in progress work. I am current on blood borne pathogens, CPR and first aid through 2011. I have been showing my art locally and re-locating to austin texas in just about a month. I have shop experience working desk, making appointments, explaining after care, bandaging clients scrubbing tubes and getting coffee. Any and all help, opinion and criticism welcome and appreciated. Did I mention I work for peanuts? Thanks! http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd385/MeganLaneSnay/
dont want to be mean, so dont take it badly. not gonna lie, looks kinda high school art class-ish to me. study TATTOO ART. make a strong line drawing of a good, tattooable picture. then make 2 copies of said line drawing. shade the original in a black and grey scale EXACTLY the way YOU would tattoo it( i suggest an ebony pencil). then color one of your copies EXACTLY the way YOU would tattoo it (i would suggest Prisma Color colored pencils, they are a great investment). do this process for everything you draw from now on, and before you know it, you'll have a bad ass portfolio, and your own insta-flash. you'll just keep getting better. also, dont keep "crap". no more of that unfinished shit. it isnt a good representation of your work, so it isnt something you should be showing people. also, WATERCOLOR!!!!! its the closest thing to tattooing as it gets. practice, practice, practice! my method shot me from "decent" to "holy shit" it a matter of months. hope this helps, and best of luck
thank you. its nice to have an honest opinion, and some concrete advice.
