auto claves vs pressure cookers

14 messages · last activity 4/13/2006

Are pressure cookers equal to stove top auto claves.some look pretty much the same and what is the proper procedure for this.i.e. alcohol, water, special solution and temp and time. thankyou guys
They are technically capable of meeting the temperature and pressure and time requirements if used properly, but require babysitting and there are complicating issues involving possible recontamination after sterilization if it is not done properly...The rest of the details I leave to the discretion of the pros here.
We really discourage technical talk on this open public forum. We want you to be safe, but to properly do so you need to be under the guidance of a talented tattoo artist. Please ask them. Your looking for trouble asking for tattooing help on the Internet...
Did I cross a line Gabe? If so, sorry.
it's funny how the industry frowns so much on scratchers when there not helping the problem by limiting info on this art form.it seems alot are out to protect the knowledge of the business and thier eallets instead of the art.
sorry i meant Their wallets
Thunder, I don't think that people are trying to safeguard their wallet. This forum will not stop people from being scratchers. If anything, providing information will make it easier for people to be a scracher. This forum is to talk about tatoos, not how to tattoo. It may not seem that different, but it is.
I will not give out technical info on this site ,however, in the name of safety , you can e-mail me about STERILIZING ONLY!!. Sorry Gabe but the way I figure it if I can keep one person from contracting hiv or hep by giving even a scratcher a little of my knowledge I will do so.without hesitation...TAz
Actually from what I've browsed and found and collected so far in terms of technical info from current and past forums, websites and books, and what I expect to eventually uncover, I think pretty much all of the answers to any concievable question (including yours) are already readily available. There are a few problems nevertheless...First, the info is more than peppered with faulty or just plain dangerously wrong information. Secondly, even if one was very patient and managed to crossreference everything and consider the sources and weed out most of the mis-information one would still need a mentor to explain and direct the application of all of this information and keep the apprentice from going too far too over confidently. Much in the same way that one could study & memorize all required brain surgery textbooks and gain great theoretical knowledge of brain surgery and even recite a "play-by-play" while a seasoned surgeon operated and yet still not be able to preform the actual procedure him or herself...
What you tell people is yer own business. I agree that sterilization is very important, though, its only one part of being clean. In any event, Im not a tattoo artist, I am not protecting my wallet, Im making sure that people dont get bad/partial information from this website. There are too many variables that go into keeping a clean area and procedures for tattooing to attempt to teach them to people on this site. If people learn stuff here that encourages them to scratch, that goes on my karma. There's enough info on this site how to learn to tattoo the right way anyways, Im sure this question has been answered before...
All I ask is "if" you're using a pressure cooker to clean your equipment, could you post a sign on the front door of your shop. I wouldn't cook a chicken in an auto clave, so why would I want someone to use a pressure cooker to clean surgical/tattoo instruments? Even if in "theory" they are the same process. The right tool, for the right job. I also wonder why you are defensive becuase you are not getting the "how to" reply you wanted? If you're a legit tat artist, buy one.
Oh, forgot to sign in to the above reply.
hey taz can you email me i can't seem to access you through the site.please and thankyou
