backwards timing spring....!?

7 messages · last activity 3/29/2010

i saw a picture of a machine the other day(i think on 'raw irons' website) that had the contact screw angled upward from behind the spring deck to contact the underside of the timing spring, which pointed backwards and was positioned on top of the main spring... tried this wierd setup with a single-coil machine i was making from a cut-up $12 china-frame- it seems to work pretty well! it has a very hard hit with a huge stroke; main problem i've had thus far is changing springs/a-bar is a bitch due to the screw being under the timing spring... curious as to why this type of set-up isn't seen more often... any thoughts?
...ok....i guess nobody knows anything about this? or has no opinions? ....surprising!
Because it's crap and not worth shit? Why would there be anything underneith the rear spring...am I reading wrong?
i guess you must be reading wrong- the 'front spring' points BACKWARDS, and is ABOVE the 'rear spring'; the 'front binder'/contact screw are positioned just BEHIND the spring deck; the contact screw angles UPWARDS from 'front binder' and contacts the LOWER SURFACE of the 'front(timing) spring'... http://www.rawirons.com/images/machines/frameless%20coin.JPG and yes, it may be a worthless design- i've only taken the version i built to the shop a couple of days ago, and only had 2 customers since then whom i know well enough they were cool with letting me try it out on them... that's why i was asking for ideas/opinions; THANK YOU, btw, for posting- i was beginning to think NOBODY would!
Hey, nothing to add really, it looks really interesting though. Maybe the pic will help get you more replies. I'm curious, how does it feel weight/balance wise when you use it?
STFU is everyone suppose to stop to talk to your whiney ass?? wahhh wahhh no ones talking to me i seen this set up and i want to talk technical on a public forum cause im cool wahh wahhhh
maybe one day, (sniff), i'll be as gumbly as you, then i'll bitch about (nothing?) in response to topics i don't understand... i was just trying to get some halfway interesting discussion started, jackass, not ask a technical question. inksane- i had a chance to use it a couple more times; i would describe the feel as 'pleasantly unbalanced'- with a lil more weight further back and almost none up front, it seems to wanna pull up ever so slightly at the tip... the machine packs in solid REALLY QICK, but is apparently a lot 'less comfortable' on the client's end than your average machine.
