I recently had some work done at a local tattoo shop that I was referred to by a friend. Her tattoos were great so I decided to give the place a shot and now I regret that I do and am very unhappy with it. is it common for someone to not have to sign a waiver when getting a tattoo? I never had to sign one and I know in all the other places I went to I did. the place I went to was very unprofessional it seemed they were more interested in checking the female customers out than in giving us a great tattoo. My tattoo has some visible flaws that I want to have fixed and I do not want to go back to the original person who did the tattoo for reasons undisclosed and for the simple fact that the place and the attitude of the artist really pissed me off. I talked to the shop manager they said that I had no choice but to go back to that artist and have them do the touch up that is needed. based on that I decided not to go back there period. I want more tattoos and really want to get my other one fixed but now I am nervous about going anywhere else!!! I know not every shop out there is bad and not every artist is disrespectful but when you go in to get work done you expect that you will be treated with respect and stuff now when people ask I won't refer them there ...sorry its just bull shit-- advice?
Bad experience in CT- advice?

unfortunately not all shops are up to par. I'm sorry you first experience was so bad. The shops that are listed above are all awesome and i'm sure your experience would be 100% better. Dont get put off by one bad shop. There's too many amazing shops and artists out there for you to give up.
Thanks. Actually this was my third shop - my first tattoo that I got was 16 years ago and it just took me some time in between. Its pretty sad that some places aren't as conscious about their image.. I don't want to go to a place where its all 18-21 year olds running around and hanging out-- this is something I am going to have on me til the day I die so I want it to be really good. I wouldn't recommend that other place to anyone I know and tell people NOT to go there.I know of 5 people now who are disatisfied with the tattoos they got there and heard other things from people after I went.
Is it true that many artists won't do a touch up? Gosh I am up shits creek then
If you are Ct why would you go anywhere but 3 shops Hope (my choice) Transcend or Planet 9???
The first person who did my tattoo retired years ago- the second place I went with an Ex and this last place I was referred to so believe me- my bad! Sad part about it is I really wanted my tattoo to be something I'd love and now it just isn't so I want to fix it and even add on. My feeling is someone just lost a lot of business.
Of those 3 shops which artists do you recommend?
There are more than three great shops in CT. Artifact in Newington is one of the best....
From Hope Gallery and Transcend you can't lose with who you pick. The guy I go to his Julio Rodriguez at Hope. But check them all out for yourself.
Hope-- I would go to any! (look at their styles to fit your likes)
Transcend any as well
Plan 9 I would choose Andy, but that is just me.
With the talent in CT there is no excuse to have a bad tattoo on your body.
To the person that said Artifact is one of the best--Are you joking?!?
If the gallery they have on their site is any representation they are a run of the mill street shop with competent tattooers but in no way in the same league as the other three shops (esp Hope and Transcend). We are talking single A vs the major league!
Never forget... Just because the shop took a customer service seminar doesn't mean they are a good artist. Some of my favorite Tattooists are real A-holes. A friendly artist is just icing on the cake in my opinion. Nothing beats researching the artist's work. Best to see work in person, healed work and as many different tattoos by the artist as possible. Good luck.
