It seems like there is a “Celeb Tattoo” request once a week now. I have to say I agree with many of the “forceful” responses that have been posted from folks encouraging others to think deeply and critically about this action. I am no tattoo expert; just a middle-aged guy with a bunch of tattoos and a lover of the art and beauty. Regardless of your thoughts on tattooing, your background, or your personal circumstances, a tattoo has meaning for the owner of the piece. It could represent an event, a reflection of your character, a trait, a memory, etc… If you were going to permanently change yourself, what meaning would Bam’s tattoo provide you? I think that someone mentioned that it was Tibetan; if the beliefs, culture, and methods that are associated with that specific Tibetan piece are the same beliefs, culture, and methods that you closely associate yourself with, then by all means… get the piece. It would be an expression of who you are. But if you are asked, “Hey, what does your tattoo represent?” are you going to say “Bam”… or would you rather say, “Me.” The most exciting part of this art form is that it can be truly original and unique to its owner, if you so choose. Everyone should do what is best for them, but for those thinking about getting a tat from someone else or from some chump on TV… at least allow yourself to consider (even if for just a moment) what people are warning you about. You would be short changing yourself if you do not.

so does this mean that anyone with a heart on their wrist is copying Bam or HIM? because they have that too. I've heard of many people getting the heartagram tattoo simply because they like what it stands for. I agree that its not cool to copy someones own artwork, but i also think that if someone see's something they like, they should be able to get it. thats just me, but obviously you all think differently. i also think you guys could've gone about replying to this person a little better. you started off by bashing them, nt beig nice at all. you guys could've been nicer. but whatever.

Getting a design you like is one thing, but look at the opening part of the thread. They want a pic of the tattoo so they can get it. They never would have even thought of getting it until they saw it on someone else first. I stand my ground about copying other people and getting the same tattoo as they have.

Copying someone elses tattoo is lazy and disrespectful. Being influenced by someone elses tattoo to inspire you in your quest for the perfect tattoo design is normal. The idea is to take different good ideas, add your own personal interest in the design, and run those ideas through a custom tattoo artist who creates a unique tattoo that only the wearer has. Until some jerk takes it off a web site and then copys it. Personally, I believe flash should also be customized in some way so the final tattoo itself is unique. Unless you know the person who wears the tattoo well and have their blessing or are getting something historical (Old school tattoo flash designs or your grandfathers tattoo) then its pretty crappy to steal someone elses tattoo. Most people new to tattoos dont realize how disrespectful it is to copy someone elses tattoo. Its very disrespectful. People are crass with you because your stealing something that is very personal. As pointed out earlier, its a bit ironic that celebrities tend to get real crappy tattoos so the people that copy them also end up with crappy tattoo. In the end you get the tattoo you deserve.

All I know is that if someone copied one of my sleeves or any other tattoo I have, I'd be beyond insulted. If it's a custom piece, you do not copy it, but if it's a known symbol or whatever and that's what you're looking for, then go for it. Not my style, but some people go for that "billboard" look.

I don't mean that like I don't know who he is, I do, but I do mean it like when you are sitting at your dinner table with friends at 55, that heartagram will not mean the same thing it did to you when you were 15.
