could be both however if the skin is seperating in a v type valley then there could have been a hooked or bad needle hard to say without seeing it as far as infection what kind of ointment are you using what color was used it has been my experince and with consulting with a fellow med doc bacatrain ointment in some people is causing reactions example of first hand gave my wife a pooh bear tattoo started with bacatracin she soon developed the v type cut where the lines were placed and was getting a nasty reaction i had her immedately stop and switched over to a & d ointment now that she has healed the problem areas (lines) will need a quick touch up but it maintained the color and healed up nicely i also had her wash it 3 times a day remember do not over do it woth any ointment or lotion if it looks shiny glossy wet then dab it with a paper towel best of luck
thanks for your advice...i did the washing three times a day for the first 3 days and then was using a unscented moisturizer that is very mild that i had originally purchased when my daughter was born...cant use a&d cause of the lanolin. now i am having to use an antibiotic cream as well as oral antibiotics to cure the infection. its the weirdest tattoo experience i have ever had. even from the beginning it hurt considerably more than any other tattoo i have ever gotten and i have serveral in very sensitive areas of the body and still no negative reaction.
