Our New Jersey tattoo gallery has work form resident artists as well as those traveling to New Jersey. I would also add Sean Zee to the list.
Try Fat Kat Tatto in Keyport, NJ
fatkattat.com or on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/fatkattattoo
Nate (the owner) and Spencer are both phenomenal and are consistently booked. They really encourage custom work and have very few flash pieces on the walls. But they will do flash if thats what you want.
This also depends on what you want too. Some folks are great at different styles.

That's a pretty bold statement, and quite a stretch. How do you figure this?

You might as well be searching for the prettiest girl in NJ. For the style of stuff I like -- Chris Adamek, I think he is at Immortal Ink. But I ain't seen every artist in New Jersey either -- there could very well be better.

i got an awesome tattoo at Holdfast tattoo In Galloway/Atlantic city area
www.myspace.com/holdfasttattoocompany
Definitely Dan Wolf of Planet Wolf Tattoos. He has been tattooing for 30 years and is one of the best artists around. I have 2 from him and would never consider getting one from anyone else. Unless possibly his son Edd Wolf at the same shop. They both have unsurpassed skill but Dan obviously has a bit more experience.

I would also agree that Dan Wolf is most definatly the best around in central jersey. He sketched the tattoo I got in honor of my mom and I would NEVER go anywhere else.
It really doesn't matter if Dan Wolf has been tattooing for thirty years..
His work is decent, but nothing compared to these younger guy's...
Kevin Leblanc@ www.whitelotustattoos.com probably the best in NJ.
Chris Adamek@ www.immortalink.com
Vinnie@ www.myspace.com/tatblaster is a young guy that puts in a real nice clean tattoo.
Tom& Mike@ www.electrictattoonj.com two of the best in one shop..
Chris@ www.loyaltyink.com is a young guy that's doing clean work.
Screaminink.com
I was at the NYC Convention and looked at Jeremy, and Ian's work from screamin ink,and was very impressed..They should update their work on the website, because it doesn't do them justice..
How about Northern NJ, the ones in central Jersey sound good, but gas prices are crazy these days!

DANNY WOLF!
He did my first tattoo and it was to every exact nic correct!
Best guy around, been around for a while to,he tattoo'd my pops and his pops!
Go 2 Planet Wolf in Brick NJ!!!!!!!!!
Chris Adamek. period. Instead of arguing just look at his fuckin work..... chrisadamek.com
I have seen a lot of work and have quite a bit on me. The BEST that I have seen thus far is from the guys at Electric tattoo in Bradley Beach. Tom, Rob and MIke are all amazing in their own way - but regardless of who does your ink, it comes out amazing!!!I I don't go anywhere else for my ink. www.electrictattoonj.com
DANNY WOLF!! Planet Wolf Tattoos!! He is the best, he knows what he's doing and doesn't have the cocky attitude that you find with the newer up and coming artists. No ego here, just art and a very laid back atmosphere!!
He just worked on me and I love my new ink!!
i will say the best artist i have dealt with is Jen Carmean from monarch tattoo in newfoundland,nj route 23 south. She did an awesome rib piece on me and i must say she was very lighthanded and worked extremely fast. She's very resonably priced and a delight to be tattooed by. Check out her work at monarchflash.com
Starlight Tattoo
Belleville and Rochelle Park
I can't believe I haven't seen it listed. Owned by
world renowned artist Mario Barth.
Had my first dome by Ritchie. The number 41
With perfectly straight lines. People think it's fake at
First because it's so clean.
Getting my second in a few days!
There's some good tattooers at Starlight, but i think they charge to much.I can understand paying a little more to get work from Mario Barth, but not from the entire staff..I took a buddy to get praying hands at the shop in Bellville a few years ago,and they wanted 450.00 I told him it would probably be no more than 300.00,but was i wrong.I ended up taking him to Immortal Ink in Clinton, and Rich did a good job,and charged 250.00
IM LAYIN DOWN A CHALLENGE TO ANY ARTIST IN THE AREA,LETS FIND OUT WHO S THE BEST IN THE AREA,I KNOW IM READY TO PUT MY WORK UP AGAINST ANYBODY AROUND,EVERYBODY TALKS SMACK,AND CLAIMS THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL, SO LETS FIND OUT,ANY TAKERS?MESSAGE BACK AND WE WILL SET IT UP WE HAVE A TATTOO WAR OF SOUTH JERSEY,STOP TALKIN AND START DOIN, SOME CLAIM TO BE DRIVEN,SOME THE GRAFFITI KING, WHAT I WANNA KNOW IS WHOS READY TO BACK UP THE TALK, AND NOT JUST ONE STYLE,YOU GOTTA BE ABLE TO DO IT ALL, NO ONE TRICK PONIES,THIS MIGHT SOUND A LITTLE COCKY,SO LET ME CLARIFY,JUST A FRIENDLY COMPETITION,CAUSE MY CLAIM IS THIS, I AM THE BEST,PERIOD AND IM JUST GETTING STARTED ON MY JOURNEY TO THE TOP
Hit him up @ either

or

Hands down Al...your the winner. The winner of the most disillusioned artist in Jersey.Just because you attempt to do all different styles, doesn't mean
you succeed at them. Those portraits are pretty bad-and those wings aren't going to make that girl fly nowhere.Get a grip, and lose that cocky attitude.
You can probably fool some people with your confidence, but not everyone will fall for that.I let the tattooers portfolio speak about how good they are,not the artist.
hey yall
im getting a couple pictures of my family tatttoed on my body like faces and other stuff but i wana be sure where i go is the best at doing that and is a clean good place and good prices if anyone knows of a good place near parsippany nj which north jersey morris county or passiac county anywhere close enough thats good lol...thanks id appreciate it!
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=405648666&albumID=1065500&imageID=10262028
Oh my god Al. How can you, as a supposed artist, claim that the proportions on this cat are even close to realistic. One eye is set up to face to the left while the other is to the right and the eye sockets are all fucked up. Look at those ears!!! Am I looking straight on or is it a side pose. Holy shit you have no clue about perspective, maybe start by going to a local vo-tech and learn about the basics of art. the second to last poster is correct, your cocky as a mofo and shitty as they come. I would be pissed off if that was embedded into my skin. I won't even start in about the mouth.
And this, http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=405648666&albumID=1065500&imageID=10262088
You can't even draw a fucking box in the correct perspective. Now you tell me how the fuck is that box going to close? Its gonna have an overbite I'll tell ya that much. Don't you see that the lid of the chest doesn't fucking line up you talentless retard?
I have come to realize that a really good artist. I mean a really good one knows how to draw hands and faces in the proper perspective. It has to be correct, of course unless you want a "Nightmare Before Christmas" look.
I know you guys said NJ but if you just cross the bridge there is Anil Gupta

Sucking at all styles does not make you better than someone who specializes in one!! Get a grip Al!!
First off it doesn't matter who someone thinks is the best in jersey it's all a matter of the person being happy with the work they have recieved. All you tards screaming out names and talking about other artists,Guess what? No-one really gives a fuck..We understand you wanna and probably have licked the ball sweat of your favorite artist but quit acting like a little girl at a britney spears concert. The tattoo community doesn't need people running there mouths causing more headache for artists out there,if they suck it's only a matter of time before they ruin themselves..as far as al writing challenges it's not him believe me we checked..we know who u are and it's a shame you can't be man enough to talk shit and represent it...
TROY CHARTIER at SOUTHSIDE TATTOO in howell, NJ!! I gave him my own drawing and he drew it up and made it 100x better than i imagined. i LOVE IT. he has an amazing artistic ability. =] check him out! i promise you'll be impressed.
I thought Danny Wolf was pretty good. He started doing a sleeve for me. Unfortunately, I had to move away. I did however take the time to drive all the way back to NJ from Florida with an appt and he no showed. I went to his house and he was sleeping!! NICE!!! I woke him up and he told me to give him a couple hours and he'ld meet me there. So, what do I do? I wait. For more than a couple of hours. Still no show. So, I get in my car and drive all the way back to florida with my sleeve still not done. Thanks for nothing!!!!

NOT DANNY WOLF, he did a tat on my friend that was supposed to be a star and it looked like a fucking maple leaf. dan wolf needs to hang up his gun and quit he's losing his skill in his old age.
i like julio reichard @ art & tattoo emporium
he's the only one i will let tattoo me and my friends :)
huge friendly shop too with lots of nice paintings
To say who is the best tattoo artist in NJ is probably the most impossible question to answer, choosing an artist 9 times outta 10 is usually personal preference. I've been tattooing for about 3-4 years now and I've seen some of the most beautiful work walk in to my shop and have the customer do nothing but talk shit about the piece, as well as I've seen some of the ugliest shit you could ever imagine to have the person talk about like it was done by fucking picasso. For the most part the uneducated "tattoo" public basis the quality of their work by the way they were treated. So i recommend to anyone reading this looking for an artist in NJ, that go wherever u feel comfortable, obviously i would love to do your tattoo but what people need to understand that unless your getting a custom tattoo that is very style specific, it doesnt really matter where u go as long as its a clean reputable shop. If all you are looking for is a name, butterfly, kanji, etc. It wont make a difference if you go to a guy thats been tattoing for 30 years or 3, or if you pay 50 or 500. Here are a list of some shops in NJ to where if you go you will most likely be more then satisfied.
SouthSide Tattoo Howell, NJ (where i work) ask for Mat
SIlk City Tattoo Hawthorne, NJ (Christian, Ruler are the shit. But this whole shop smashes everyone around them)
12oz. Studios (not sure what town but they do beautiful work)
Starlight Tattoo (Mario Barths studio, little pricey but quality work)
Sean Zee (not sure where hes located but google him, his work is fuckin nasty.)
I know im forgetting a bunch of others but there are a ton of reputable shops all over NJ. Also anywhere that TIm Victim recommends is good because he is def one of the premier artists on the east coast. Also stay away from cocky assholes, there are no "rockstars" in tattooing and anyone who talks shit on everyone else is most likely doing it to compensate for what they are lacking. A good artist's work should speak for itself. And also just because someones been tattooing for 30 years dosent mean they are the best. If an artist has been in the game for 30 plus years, and isnt booked for more then 2 weeks and still does walk ins, obviously he insnt that good.
I agree with some things said on this site, and i disagree with some others. The weakness with the internet is the fact that anyone can get on here and say ANYTHING about ANYONE. Like the joker up there claiming hes the best with a portfolio of inbred cats, or the guys trash talking dan wolf. i dont think people should recommend anyone on here....all it does is start childish, myspace-like arguements between people about there personal favorites. just post a link to there portfolio and let that speak for itself!!! or take the fucking time and stop by a shop or two! your gonna have the tattoo for life, you might as well put some time into finding the right artist, assholes!!
i'd like to know how i rate in the grand scheme of things....you tell me...randyprause.com.....decide for your self.the work should do all the talkin.....
also let me know what you think of my right hand man robertmankowski.com...hell of a talented guy, hasn't been tattooing all that long either...check out his original artwork....this guy is gonna be a real force in no time.....thanks for your time.
I like some of your work..Some of those portraits are real nice..Some of them, the transition from black to grey aren't smooth..Robert's tattoos didn't impress me..They look a little amateurish to me.

His portraits are real smooth...His work has depth, and is just so clean..

My Egyptian sleeve is being done by Sean Zee out of Beacwood, NJ. He rocks my socks.

chris adamek def does great work.might be my fav for his blk n grey work, sean zee, well hell yeah, thought he was up in conn guess hes back....i guess personal choice is always gonna keep good artist busy.on top of being talented i think attitude and the studio also play a part.there are lost of great artist in nj! this artist is always trying to grow.....thanks,randyprause.com
http://www.myspace.com/planetwolftattoos
www.myspace.com/chrisadamek
they speak for themselves
I don't have any tattoos by Chris,Kevin,or Sean..I wouldn't get tattooed by them just because their work is excellent..Connecting with the tattooer is the most important part in deciding if i get tattooed by them..I didn't really click with Kevin, although i really like his tattoos..I think some people just go to the most famous tattooer without ever meeting the person to see if they connect with them..
Give me a call, I own http://www.studio9tattoos.com/ in Freehold NJ. I will be more than willing to check out your needs. Please don't hesitate to call us @ 732-780-4800.

Creeped Out
Becka S. 1 South Side Tattoo
Absolutely horrible experience. I received a tattoo from there a few months ago by a young guy (I forget his name, sorry) and although the tattoo wasn't bad, I was extreemly skeeved out by one of their employees. I was getting a tattoo done on my butt, and obviously had to have my slacks around my ankles, now they did put me in a room that was closed off from public view, wich at first I felt very comfortable. But about half way through the tattoo I heard one of the other artists there say "your lucky he's tattooing you, because I wouldn't get any work done staring at that ass" Now I thought we were in a private room, but apparently this guy was staring at me through the door the whole time.I was very, very creeped out after that. I have since had my tattoo redone at Broken Heart in Keyport, NJ and was very satisfied with their proffesionalism, and privacy. SouthSide was clean, but got a very creepy vibe from the bigger guy, and would not recommend if you are a fellow female.
