I'm looking for a tattoo artist that can create a similar tattoo to the red koi fish on brandon boyd's arm. Does anyone know who his tattoo artist is? Cheers,- L.A.

Yes brandon does do all his own tattoos tattooing is an art that should express what u feel deep inside on your body to make u beautiful people say its whats on the inside that counts tattoing helps u express ure personality on the outside i believe in never getting a tatoo that i havent designed myself or to shoe tribute to some1 i admire in the case of brandons koi fish i am sure he would be flattered i know i would and i can do and exact copy of the koi fish because i do art myself that doesnt mean some guy from los angeles mae it up it is all brandons personality he has put into it the sam jose the drummer from incubus he designs all his tattoos aswell so dnt go choosing tattoos off of boards you should desing ure own or even get a friend to depist ure personality through art art is what holds humanity together the art of music and painting keeps us sane and makes our minds feel some piece in the world i could meditate whilst listenin to aquerious transmission by incubus through a bombing raid and tornado combines if i had to just follow ure mind and ure spirit dudes that all u need!!!!!!!!!!!

i got the 'om mani padmi hum' like brandon boyd, its a great tattoo, especially if you like the religion and understand the meaning.

fireman, since you're such a big fan of the religion, you probably already know that you misspelled the english translation of the tattoo you have....it's "om mani padme hum"

actually, his best friend and drummer jose desogned the koi fish and they both have it. brandon only designed the two mani wheels on his inner arm and the owl on his back.

people have been getting koi fish tattoos for centuries. extremely typical buddhist tattoo. and the circle idea isnt new either. brandons rendering is just one interpretation of an extremely popular tattoo, not entirely unlike millions of others. i have a koi fish circle on my breast that is not the same as brandons but very similar. if you believe in what that symbolizes, and anrent an artist, why not get one you've seen and liked somewhere?

Um yeah to the Johny boy that posted his message after mine i accede with you but Most people don't do their tattoos on their own plus sum people can't draw. i do art myself to because it's a way you can express your thoughts threw. it's amazing what you can create with just a pencil & blank sheet of paper etc..., plus it's fun! anyway not all people get tattos because they wanna express themsselves sum get it because they think it awesome not cause they want to express themselves believe me i met lot's of people in the past that have tatoos and i've asked why? this girl i met in ohio had gotten a tatoo of a nude chick because she was obsessed with this dude that she did everything he did and he had a tattoo of sum nude chick on his forearm. this other lady had a tattoo on her ass of pot leaf she told me she'd been meaning to take it off she thought it was cool and all that shitwhen she was in her teen yrs now she's like 31 and has 2 kids she's going for the mom look now...i guess! oh crap I've got more stories but i've gotten off topic! Brnadons tattoo of the koi fish was designed as people said by jose. Brandons art skills are limited...I do however have a perfect copy on bmp of his tattoo.. I say that if someone wants to get his fish then they should do so. Not because he has it but because you understand the meaning and the inspiration to how you should lead your life.....on the flip side though....i just saw a gap ad with brandon so i think he sold out...whatever. I still think science and make yourself are the best albums of all time

Ello ello!! I'm wanting to get another tattoo on my left side. I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the Brandon's text of his arm tattoo. to respond to Allison's question... The tattoo Brandon bears on his right forearm is Tibetan for, "Om Mani Padme Hum." Its direct translation is "Hail the Jewel of the Lotus" and means, "The Sound That Strengthens Compasion in All Enlightened Beings." (from the incubus-online-view site) brandon and jose make their own designs based on whatever inspires them. they have a personal tattoo artist that takes their drawings and puts it on their bodies. so basically...their particular tattoos r their own, though there may be different types elsewhere. any good tattoo artist should b able to replicate it as long as they have a picture.

Why is it that so many people get up tight about who does what as their tattoos? Honestly, get whatever tattoo you want if it represents a part of YOU and not just because someone else has it. After all, it is your body and you should be able to decorate it however makes you feel expressed the most. That's the whole point anyway... -peace

If anyone has any sites that I could have an option to translate an english word into a tibetan symbol, you should help me out. And for the one above me.. People might get tattoos that other people have, however most of the tattoos in the ink shop are all other artists drawings that people get. Also people can get inspired from others' tattoos. Who are you to judge what people put on their body? Maybe it transends to a part that they are going through in their lives. yeahh....just so all you who think you know everything know......it's originally Om Mani Padma Hum by ancient sanskrit monks. other buddhists took upon their own interperetation of the meaning and had another spelling, tibetans had Om Mani Peme Hung. They then realized that the spelling didn't matter so they then combined it. so trying to call the other an idiot is completely pointless. There are six different principle meanings.....om purifies bliss/pride, ma purifies jealousy/lust, ni purifies passion/desire, pe purifies stupidity/prejudice, me purifies poverty/possessiveness, and hung purifies agression/hatred. on other words......brandon designed his tattoos yes, (jose as well) but they didn't actually scribe them on themelves. But yeah there are different scripts of the mantra as well, and brandon combined them within his own interperetation....

Yes, there are lots of flash ont he walls for people to copy, and you can easily find an artist to copy someone elses tattoo, BUT tattoos really should be about making the perfect design for YOU. So, take these ideas and bring them to an artist who can interpert their meanings they way you view them and get a unique tattoo. What it breaks down to is just copying someones elses tattoo is lazy. I would advise spending the time to find an artist who can create a tattoo design truely unique. You'll get a better tattoo out of it.

I try to advice my clients to get a tattoo that means something to them that tells a story about them but not everybody feels that way I seen a lot a people come to my shop and pick the first thing of the wall and I always ask them if this is what they really want and to my shock some people tell me that they are just getting a tattoo just because is the in thing and I tell them since they are just getting a tattoo that is just because they want to be part of a click then to make it something that they won't regret later on and tasteful some people are inspired by others on getting a tattoo and is alright with me. But the person that put this topic was just asking about the person that did the tattoo about the fish and who he was I really didn't see that they stated that they wanted to copy it maybe they want to get a fish just because they like fish and want to get something in that area or with that topic, and that is why they want to get the artist name or inf. because they like the style.

I thought the original question was to find someone who could CREATE something LIKE it? Theres not a thing wrong with that and its exactly the way TO do it! Have an Idea you like and then have someone work with you and make it your own. Thats not to say that theres anything wrong with selecting a good piece of flash you like also. Its nice though to have an artist who will at least personalize that flash a bit for you so that yours is a bit unlike anyone elses. Different strokes for different folks. If you have $50.00 for your first tattoo and just want say a little star in the middle of your armpit whos to say your wrong? If moneys not an object and you dont mind waiting 2 years for an appointment from that favorite artist of yours on the other side of the country to do that special piece youve been craving...then go for it. My point is just enjoy the art and dont let 200 different peoples veiws cloud the issue or intimidate you from getting what you want.

Thanks Taz. Yea Tattooz.net is another Great site with super people. Its a nice compliment to this one along with one other I like: zootattoo.com. These 3 sites rock. All have decent folk and are on the right track. I know Krystoff is a Valued member on at least ONE of them. I checked your site out and cant wait to see more there. I know its new and just being built. Which one of the two artists shown is you? They both look like young kids. I thought you were an OLD fart like me??? lol

For those of you curious about the sanskrit ink Brandon has, I had did a lot of research before I got the same mantra inked on my arm. If you are going to copy his tattoo, don't do it because it looks cool. I would suggest you first research koi fish and understand their symbolism and also read the Lotus Sutra, which the mani mantra refers. It's not just a drawing, there is a vast amount of value contained in that line of text. Maybe consider getting your own mantra, this just happens to be an extremely popular mantra.

not to start an argument, but im the biggest incubus fan in the world probably and brandon does do alot of his tattoos but jose the drummer actually drew that koi fish. he also has it on his arm.

why does it matter if someone likes his tattoo enough to copy it. i guess if you find something you like it shouldn't matter who had it first. i've been a fan since the begining and every new tattoo he has gets better. i've even got the tibetan letters across my back. hell there are people out there who think it's cool to be like their favorite celebrity, but then again there are those of us who live in the real world who like what they like no matter who did it first.

to use the 'use of expression' of brandon boyd's art on yourself, would be quite original. wouldn't you wish use something on yourself more of your own expression of life? its has no restrictions to use them. but it would be well worth using something of your own value

Brandon draws most of his own tattoos (exception being the one Jose designed for him). He doesn't do the actual tattooing. He's not a tattoo artist.

it is stupid, tattooing your body is a way of expressing yourself. if you get something like invader zim or a silly cartoon character that doesn't resemble anything in your life, or somebody ELSE'S tattoo, then that's ridiculous. draw your own, or get a friend to. its way cooler. because its going to stay on your body the rest of your life unless you have enough money to get it replaced with a nasty scar.

As a matter of fact he's drawn up tattoos for a few mutual friends as well. As for Jose, he's also an amazing artist who does design work for their albums, promo items, vip passes, etc. Kat VonD does much of the actual tattooing on jose (the softer "prettier" if you will, looking tattoos on his chest arm, blah blah blah) now could you all just stop with this?! Actually There's an Artist in Columbus Named AJ works at a tattoo shop named Evolved on High street he did Brandon's Koi i have the same fish koi on my rib in which i altered. He's pretty sick check out the site. also there's a shop called staind skin they are all very amazing artist. check them out as well.

I am a tattoo artist and it is impossible to tattoo myself on a lot of places. Hes not that flexible, if he was it's still imposible to get a good tat when u are in an uncomfortable position. Hes a good artist but hes not elastic man. I saw an artist's website where he was tattooing him, if only I could remember his name. He might have done some of his tats to himself but not ALL OF THEM. Geez, common sense people!

Acutally Brandon doesn't do his own tattoos he has tattoo artist just like any normal person. I mean the dude has skills but lets be honest he's not doing that good of a tat on his arm like that. The Koi Fish on his arm was done by a guy named Lars in columbus Ohio.

brandon drew most of his tats...the exception would be the koi that jose drew for both of them and "the peacock dress" tattoo...this was a piece of work that was painted by another artist he really liked...perhaps that gives you guys an idea about how he'd feel about others taking the art he's done and putting it on themselves.
