I have a tattoo of happy buddha on my left rib cage. The tattoo covers most of my left side and he is sitting on a lotus petal. For many years I had thought of getting this tattoo. The work is done well - about six hours of work. My concern is that as I become more familiar with the beliefs I hope that this is not offensive. If it is - or has bad karma attatched to it - what are my alternatives.
thanks,
Paul

I had a similar problem to that of yours, the tattoo i am planning on getting is part buddha, part phoenix, part angel... unusual as it sounds i was worried that this may be offensive.. but then i thought about it and realised a tattoo is something personal, and it is about your beliefs, it should embody what you value... dont worry bout what others will think, Karma wont come back to you because you are following your heart, and your not harming anyone else.
It's sweet, if your happy, the universe is happy.
Hello i have bean looking all over the internet trying to find a good picture of a happy buddha sitting down but i cannot find one does anybody know were i can find one.
thanks
if you are unsure of the correct placement on the body of sacred images and mantras, i have given some guidelines in my website on this subject, that may be helpful to you.
go to the 'sacred meaning' page of www.inkessential.com

If you are concerned about someone being offended, then you don't understand the Buddhist philosophy enough to have a tattoo of a Buddha. Would Buddha care?
All tattoos are symbols, and it would be wise to understand the symbols BEFORE you go slapping them all over your body, wouldn't it?
how old are you? do you practice this? how long have you thought this out? because that tat will last longer than you have thought it out.if you really want this then stop doing what makes everyone else happy do what makes you happy. if you want something that make everyone else happy then get a butterfly. or a cute puppy. what it all comes down to is this is forever and if you are proud to put this piece on you and you will love it 4 ever then do it.if your scared to or scared of what people will say then i would go with the puppy.
good luck
