Alright. I got my first tattoo last May. It went fine, healed perfectly, everything was good. But within the last few months, these bumps like little body zits have been popping up on there. I've tried popping them, but that just doesn't work. I thought about just ignoring it, but more keep showing up all the time. Does anyone know what would cause this?
Bumps popping up all over my tattoo

You could most likely be having minor reaction to the pigment, but a change in diet or if you've been recently taking medications could do it as well. Are you putting anything on it? Sometimes, people clog the pores with lotions which can cause this as well. A couple of different factors going on, but if you go to your artist and check with them, they'd be able to diagnose it better. Good Luck!
best advice would be to go to your artist to diagnosis. but this exact same thing happened to me recently, and I learned it was because i was clogging the pores in my skin by applying too much lotion (which i later also realized was fragranced)
i allowed the tat to dry up for a few days without applying anything which didnt hurt it. it most likely just needs to be "aired out" so to speak so your pores where your tattoo is located and "breathe" the pimples should clear up in a matter of a few days to a couple weeks.
I actually haven't really put lotion on it since it finished healing way back in the beginning of the summer. Do you think it could be an inverse thing to the too much lotion problem by putting on too little?
I can't rtruly ask my artist because I got in done in Iowa when I was going to college there... I could call them, but that wouldn't really help much.
But this happens to other people? That's relieving just to know it's not really dangerous. It's kind of ruining the picture, though.
You know I have a similar problem with my tattoo, instead of the bumps popping up though, I have my lines pop up on occasion. (I have similar bumps pop up from time to time on both of my tattoos. More so on the one that is on my side.) It may be just a minor skin irritation, depending on the area of the skin. Have you changed any fabric softener, bath wash, soap, or fabric changes lately? Even though your tattoo has healed, it takes about three months to fully heal, and even more so. Mine gets little bumps when there has been a severe change in the weather or if I get too stressed out.
I have found that my tattoos act similarly to yours. I try to keep the area free and clean of any possible cause of irritation. Lotion may help. If you do put lotion on it, try one especially made for tattoos or one that helps to heal the skin. Neosporin is one of my favs to use when the bumps have ruptured.
My advice is to treat the bumps like you would any other skin irritation. Clean it with cold, clean water and on occasion, put some healing lotion on it. Another idea is to get an aloe plant, cut it, and rub the flesh on your bumps. Aloe is mainly used for cuts, however if you are desperate to try something, it may work.
It all depends on the sensitivity of your skin, however. Many things that work for other people may not work for you. Try different things to make the bumps go away. Good luck with the problem! Hang in there! It's just a minor inconvenience for the most part.
I've had reactions very similiar on certain inks...Don't worry too much it always goes away! Remember not to scratch the area though you could ruin the tattoo while it's healing. Good Luck!!!
It may be scar tissue; I heard that changes in barometric pressure can make scar tissue swell and protrude. If your artist was a heavy handed carver type you may have some scar tissue in the tattoo. This was explained to a friend whose outline would rise occasionally.
I got a tat about 2 months ago and i also have little bumps in it. I have other tattoos and this has never happened before. I was wondering if someone could tell me what it is, and how I can get rid of them? .. When my tattoo was healing I did not do anything different than I have in the past, and began getting incredibly itchy. A few weeks later I have little "zits" all over it, and the color is gone in a few spots. Any advice?

It could be a reaction to the ink perhaps. If you did everything the same otherwise, it seems like the ink my be a likely suspect. You should stop into the tattoo shop you had it done in and have them check it out. Many shops will do touch ups for free, but either way the tattoo artist will be able to get a better idea of what happened if they see it in person.
A few things can cause that. a reaction to the ink (reds tend to do it the most) and clogged pours. Defiantly want to go back to the artist. Following the directions with the aftercare with amount of lotion applied daily, how long and what type is pretty important
i'm having the same problem with mine right now. i was just talking to the person who done my tattoo a few minutes ago, and she said it's the body wash that i'm using. these bumps hurt like a bitch. the one i have right now is so sensative, i can't even lay on my side or barely lean against something. it kinda feels like someone stabs me everytime i need to lightly scratch near it or when i touch something and not mean to. so, it's a possibility it could be something that you're using. do not pop them, it'll only worsen and more of them will just come up. she told me just to try and ignore them and let it do their own thing, lol. but, i figured i might share what i just learned today. i was googling to figure out what causing them, and this link popped up.
I also get the same thing like hives but mine is with all my blue water color on my sleeve, I find mine will do this when Im in the sun for more then a hour. not even alot of sun my sleeve is more then 4 years old and mine is doing this right now it will go away just dont scratch it but I wish I new why mine will do this but its only the water I would like to avoid it but I live in sunny Florida lol
i am having the same issue my artist told me to try tee tree oil and said if that dont work to go to a doctor and see what the say
I got my tattoo last febuary, so i've had it it around 8 months. Not until like two weeks ago, did these bumps started showing up, I haven't changed my lifestyle or anything. the tattoo healed properly. Getting kind of nervous, they sometimes hurt to touch. Wondering if anyone has any idea?
Thanks
I had little whiteheads covering my leg in incredible numbers. Itched like hell and wouldn't pop like you would think they should. Had my whole leg break out. Went and seen my doctor and he informed me that it was foliculitus ( not sure if spelling correctly). Its a staph infection of the hair folicle. From not having shaved my leg before the pores were never opened. Staph actually is all over you all the time. Some people are succeptable and its harmless. Prescribed antibiotic and cleared up in about a week.
Your artist could have went "too deep". I have the same thing going on with my arm and foot tattoo. But the bumps on my arm are more of a line shape. Could be cause by a "heavy hand". Hope this helped. (:
