great question. . .i have a black ink tattoo under a colored celtic dragon, and the black tattoo often has a risen texture. why is this?
well im no expert but i have been tattooing for a while,so from your descriptions it sounds like areas of your tattoos that are raised are most likely caused by the artist over working the are that is raised.this means thats the artist went over the effected area too many times .this is scar tissue and can maybe be helped by appling vitamin E extract or lotion .now some raiseing is natural in the sun but should be minimal and shouldnt be noticed that much .my suggestion is the vitamin E .good luck and let me know how it works out for you.

as much as i know, bumpy tattoo are often due by, let say 'uninformed', tattoo artist going too far under the skin or applying to much 'tribal type' ink.
My best friend had tattoo's approx. 19 years ago. All of a sudden 'some' of area's of the tattoo are raised and bumpy. She's seen a doctor who had no idea, seen an allergist and he had no idea and she is scheduled months from now to be seen at John Hopkins in the states. Anybody have any idea if it's really serious or just something little?
Thanks for the help!
