Calgary, AB tattoos

Hey all, long time skulker, first time poster. Just wondering if there's anyone from Calgary and surrounding areas on here... I'm getting my second piece done in July (the soonest Steve from Immaculate Concept could fit me in, but he's worth the wait) It's going to be a pinup of my wife, done shoulder-to-elbow. But, since IC is soooo booked, I'm looking for recommendations for other shops in Calgary (planning another piece - a small moth-eaten Toronto Maple Leafs hockey jersey on the calf, based on the children's book The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier). Any recommendations? Whatever recommendations you've got, I'll put on my new site www.tat2.ca - my site for tattoo links in Calgary and surrounding area. Of course, if any of you Calgarians want to send photos to post there, please do! Thanks folks!
paul jeffries or any artist at smiling buddha tattoo. his tattooing put canada on the map a long time ago. im sure theyre pretty busy but maybe they can fit you in sooner. good luck. go flames!
Yes, from all I've heard, from many, many people, Smiling Buddha rocks, but I've also heard of the long wait times for walk-in times, and long waits for reserved times (not that you can fault them for being popular and good, of course!)

Yeah...long waits for Paul but lemme tell ya it is worth the wait...go look at this mutants work...I wish his thumbs would fall off so us human artists wouldn't look so bad...but he'd probably just grow some more!!....Check him out...worth it!!!...TAz
I'd love to see some of the work coming out of Smiling Buddha here in town, but I can't seem to find a web address for them. Any help?
pauls old school and has no website and probably will never need one. he also has laid back hours i think tues-sat from 11-6 or 7. check the shop out in person and see what the different artists portfolios look like. you might be attracted to ones style of work ove another. and the flames better beat the ducks tommorow night! oh yeah let paul know someone from peter tat2 in the states refered you to him. he knows the guy i work for rather well.
Thanks for the info, and Go Flames Go!
My uncle works at smiling buddha. His name is Scott. He loves doing big pieces and is worth the wait. Go check him out.
May be a little late. But I've known Paul Jeffries for a while, and he is amazing, along with all of his staff at Smiling Buhdda. But you could be looking for a wait. Another really good shop is Strange World. One of the guys Rick, actually used to work with Paul can do some sweet ass shit.
A small place by my house, its called smiling buddah theres a guy there who loves to do large pieces and is well worth a wait
My son and I had tattoos done at The Buddha by Scott Ford. One word! WOW! I called to see about making an appointment and there was a huge waiting list (not much wonder) but was offered the alternative of walk in. Be there on Saturday morning by 7 or 7:30AM. we got the last two appointments of the day and were both totally satisfied by the work. Totally fantastic guys!
I've got 2 pieces done by Paul. The larger one I had to pay 100% cash up front to be put on a 6 month waiting list. We decided to do the piece in one sitting, He did it on one of days the shop isn't open. It took 5 1/2 hours, and is still the BEST piece in my collection. And that was in May of 1996. Yes, It's definately worth the wait.
Definitely book a session with Scottie Ford . I've known him for 18 years and his work is tight. Went to ACAD with him in the 90's and he has gotten so much better over the years . He has a gallery set up on Face Book of previous and new works, including the 2008 convention on the Labour day weekend . Pricey? maybe, but he does shit with ink that most people can't do with pen, paper or paint and canvas . Regretfully. Smilin Buddha doesn't have a web site, but their work speaks for itself . Cheers !
If you want the best go to Brett Schwindt @ Strange World Tattoo. He used to work at smiling buddah but started his own shop a few years ago. He's unbelievable! www.strangeworldtattoo.com
I'm getting a tattoo done at Smiling Buddha, but I can't find any of the artists' work online? To whoever posted about it, how can I find that Facebook gallery of Scott Ford's work? I've typed in Scott Ford and Scott Ford tattoo and nothing comes up. Please help! Thanks
Ya man, Scott Ford just did a big ass scorpion on my back and it looks fucking sick. I highly recommend him or anyone at Smilin Buddha
Hey there, Wise Guys tattoo in calgary, guys name is Tim Ashman he is amazing... check it out www.wiseguystattoo.ca
Do not go and waste your money at Painful Obsession. Very poor customer service and I need ALOT of touchups!
Hay to the above post i went to Painful Obsession Tattoos and it was clean, cleaner then some shops in town! the artist was very polite and they told me they offer free touch ups. check out there website www.painfulobsessiontattoos.com they do good work and they have awesome rates i love my tattoo my dad even got one after me.
Smilin Budha is definately world renowned. Seen alot of awesome work out of that shop. I had Tim from WiseGuys put some Praying Hands on my back last year at the show in Calgary. The guy is amazing. The shop is an old house that has been converted. Very clean, good atmosphere and lots of room. Check him out wiseguystattoo.ca (403) 453-2001
I agree with zipper! you pay for the crap you get at painfulobsession.....good rates to save to get things redone...and medical bills.....
I have hepititus B. I have only got work done from Painful Obsession tattoos. I am posting this to save anyone from the misery I am going experiencing. I am very shocked, and very disapointed. PLEASE spend a bit more money and go to a better shop... I also have a lot!! of touch ups that need to be done on the outline of my fish tattoo.
Painful obsession is crap the tattoo artist has recently been busted by putting cameras in his shop when women would get hip or chest pieces ! he also molests the customers when its time to be proffesional ! so if i was a female STAY AWAY FROM THIS PERVERT!
you sure can't go wrong with scott ford from smilin buddah, he has a long waiting list but on saturdays they have walk ins...but you have to be there around 7 in the morning
Does anyone know how old you have to be to get a tattoo from smiling buddha?
my brother ownes his own shop in Calgary called Ten Speed Tattoo, his has been doing tattoos for 10 years and is amazing, look up his website and check it out. His name is Dave...I highly recommend him and he also is a huge hockey fan and does goalie mask art on the side too...Amazing art and tattoos.
Loads of amazing artists go to the Alberta Bound Tattoo Fest. We try to go as often as we can, it's one of the best tattoo conventions in the world.
