Wanted some info on celtic tattoos. I am of Irish decent and wanted to get some celtic tattoos on my shoulder blades. I wanted to get the celtic symbol for strength and/or courage. I have been having trouble trying to find such a tattoo. I am interested in the authenticity of such symbols or if there is any way to know if a symbol is authentic. My last name is King which of English decent but my mothers maiden name is Frawley which I know is of Irish decent. i was wondering if there is anyway to find what the authentic celtic symbols would be for my families last name. If anyone has any info or could put me in the right way i would very much appreciate. Thanx for the help.

Ok, easy stuff first. Frawley coat of arms info as well as an image are at this site.

NOW. something to think about it. apparently the original gaelic form of your last name "man of valour" -- i know this isn't celtic, but this typer thought it was an interesting coinquidink!!!
ok.
the following is supposedly a celtic rune for strength: http://www.musclebearz.com/images/crjstat2.jpg
All else fails, I do remember learning at one point that Oak Trees are symbols of strength, fidelity and endurance (celtic). Also that there is a symbol for a wild boar(?) that represented strength & courage.
apparently gaelic is a much more common translation for those words. however if you go to google and 'image search' for 'celtic strength' (or courage etc) you'll find many different options available to you. there are also a few websites that offer translation of english to celtic -- but it is NOT free. supposedly has fast turn around, but i've never used them so i can't honestly tell you.
if you will be in the NJ area at ALL in September -- I highly recommend making your way down to Wildwood -- it's a huge Irish celebration there during that time of year -- usually there are vendors and a good chunk of folks that will be very knowledgeable in what you're looking for. (it's the half way celebration to st. patty's day).
good luck!
Bee....You rock that search engine like you OWN it!... Oo! I gots goose bumps!
Much appreciated Bee. I found a website called celticlady and there is a celtic knot/ cross that symbolizes strength that I think I am going to use. Thanx for the help
Sir J-- tank ya! i've a weakness for search engines (specially google). i'll spend hours googling random words in the image area (oh i work so hard, don't i?!)
and BK,
glad you found what you were looking for. if I had realized the knot/cross would do it i would've posted links to different images -- there were hundreds of those in tattoo-, silver-, and painting-form on google.
AL!!!! Look! We have new search engine royalty!!!!!!
whoa.... i wouldn't go that far.
i stick to google images 99% of the time, and that's for kicks.

Taz -- J's not cute eh? Not even ewok/furby cute? ;)
if u want the celtic symbol for strength courage, its the Wild Boar. i have searched the whole of goole for a total amount of days but very little is actually displayed on Wild Boar tattoos. Wild Boar were honored by the norse, Celts and the barbarians. the wild boar was honored because of its srength (really agressive and second biggest reason why indian tigers are goin extinct) courage because they attack the tiger, not the other way round, and fertility, because it has lots of babies, which it can produce, like man, any time of the year. my name in ancient Gaelic actually means, he who is as strong/brave/fertile as a wild boar so i was really interested in this subject.
.Ok Bee he is a LITTLE cute...Furby?...NO...Ewok?...NO...
Gollum...thats it!...GOLLUM CUTE!!
NOT Smeagol cute...GOLLUM CUTE!!!
