Coil Wrapping

11 messages · last activity 6/13/2008

Wanting to try my hand at wrapping my own coils. Anyone here do this? Anyone got any advice for me?
yeah i do, it's a pain in the ass without some sort of mechanical device to rotate the core with one hand while you tension with the other... just remember to make the wire tight but not too tight you need some room for the metal wire to expand when it heats up or you'll bust the wire and your coils will be fried
use a drill.
eh, i wouldn't recommend it for a first time coil wrapper unless you're using the cheap plastic bobbin method. a hand crank one allows more control and they're pretty simple to make
Ive been learning to custom build my machines, as through my apprenticeship. and i used to machine parts for bikes, all kinds of shit, ive been thinking about trying to machine my own frames, and wrap my own coils. any other info would be great if you guys do it.
yea do it by hand .slower but more accurate.make a winder or buy a hand one there are a few out there. The question on my mind is would grain orientated silicone steel core or stacked laminated core assembly reduce eddie current occurrence .and give the ultimate output at low temperatures and current voltage .or is it just a dead end and just stick to low carbon
eddy currents are negligible at the voltages we're working at and aren't really a problem. same with skin effect. i just stick with low carbon steel. trial and error is the best method imo...
sweet . thanks man . coil winders if ya dont want to make one electric winder http://www.infiniteirons.com/products.asp?cat=17 hand winder http://cgi.ebay.com/Tattoo-Gun-Machine-Hand-Crank-Coil-Winder_W0QQitemZ260242277301QQihZ016QQcategoryZ16705QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem us screw thread
Hello, If you wrap your coils no matter how, by hand or machine, you've got to insulate the wire from the core with tape first or you short-out the coil instantly! Use fiber washers at the ends, forget those plastic bobbins, because they can "bang" loose & they'll dance around on ya,
they'll only short if they get hot enough to melt the enamel (assuming you're not using litz wire), but yeah a layer of transpore is a good idea.
Guys about the coil wrapping ... i just made my own ... i want to to upload it .. so you can see it !!! the capacitor that i use .. 50 volt 100 mF ... it works well.. !!!!
