Custom machines

14 messages · last activity 6/25/2012

As of late I've been considering building a line of machines. I would only be selling my machines to real tattoo artists in the industry and would require proof of owning/working at a shop. I'm only posting thread to talk to all of you to find out what you would really like to see out there. I've built and tuned all of the machines that I use. My father and brother are machinists by trade and and will be manufacturing the frames for me. I will offer different thickness spring sets (eikon), custom hand made spring sets, and optional half coil models. I've considered making the frames from aluminum, brass, and steel. I will offer powdercoating and also carved machines. I will also accept custom orders. I'm not trying to take anyone's business away by manufacturing my own machines. I won't even be doing it on a large scale. I just want to build custom machines for good artists. I just want to see what all of you out there would like to see on the market for professionat l use. I'm very proud of my work and would gladly provide more information once this is a solid project of mine. I've found distribution directly from eikon and a few other companies for the no name parts (screws, ect ect). As of now I'm only building a few machines to test the market. I stand behind all of my work. Skin, canvas, paper, and now in metal. I know that I cannot control the amount of "scratchers" that will post in this attempting to get a custom made machine or throw out ideas that have no validity... But it's not hard to pick and choose the who's who... I'm currently not working in a shop or out of my home. I am in the workings of opening my own shop in washington county area. If you're seriously interested I expect serious referances. I have no problem providing mine to someone interested in my work. I love this industry... I'm just trying to keep it alive with the right people and the right knowledge... If you're interested in becoming a serious artist... Get off the computer... Take your work.... Go to a shop... Keep it real... Thanks for reading all of this... 7
Hey 23 ...You should get in touch with Rob Giusti...he makes custom irons too and damn fine ones...sounds like you guys have a LOT in common!!!...TAz
is it possible to powder coat chameleon paint (not sure if it spelled right) that would be hott..................just an idea
Have any links for him? I'd love to get in touch with someone else who makes custom machines. I don't know if you've seen the current mess between Aaron cain and Junebug from kavemetalworks but I find it horribly amusing. Both of them make very nice machines. I actually have a machine made by Aaron myself. It's just recently I've decided to focus more on performance. I have a few seperate machines for lining / shading / coloring. I've played with spring thickness and coils enough now to where I'm seperating the machines that I have for differant shit. I've been using some custom set ups for differant needles... It's just nice having enough machines with the same action but made for differant needles. I like to have my light / med / power... It's just nice to not strain my equipment... Then I don't have to fuck with them as much, tuning becomes minimal... I don't know if it's just me but I don't give a shit what brand the machine is as long as it's tuned to my specs.. You can make a "kit" run great if you know what you're doing.... As far as some equipment goes... The name does mean quality... But most people throw too much faith in thier equipment thinking that it's going to change the quality of thier work. it's a 50/50 thing... I don't give a fuck if my machine is pink with purple polkadots... as long as it runs clean... you seem to be one of the people that's keeping it real here...
I don't think that's a powdercoat... But I think that'd be a pretty interesting machine... I could look into something like that... It's auto paint so I assume that it would be durable..

23...His e-mail is [email removed]...I'm sure he would love someone to talk shop with and a nicer guy is hard to find...beep him up! I feel like you and like Rob...I really don't care for a fancy machine...it is performance that counts!!! Robs machine to be blunt are almost primitive just like the ones I started on over three decades ago....not that they look like shit or anything but the work is in the performance and that is all important to any working artist...I don't give a flyin fuck if your machine is gold plated with spinner rims if it is not reliable I don't want the damn thing...there is not much worse than bein in the middle of a tattoo and having your machine start spittin parts all over the floor...DAMN that PISSES ME OFF!!!And by the way I might be interested in a half coil machine...about the only thing I have never owned!...Send me some details will ya?...Just click on the e-mail addy above...And nice to meet ya pal!!...TAz, Painted Angel Studios!
In reference to the above: The chameleon paint would be kick ass as long as you use an anodizing process on any of the frames that you are produceing say like a zinc oxide coat etc. before you lay down an automotive 2 stage primer with a catalyst, then your chameleon, then a shit load of good clear that wont wrinkle up on you if you get alcohol or whatever on it. usually thats not a problem with bagged equipment. house of color produces some killer auto chameleon out of the can .
YEP!! What he said!!!
(I'm not an artist and never claim to be.) That's said any product for any industry quality of materials, workmanship and performance will make or break any product that sees constant use, but it's a combination of all three that will make a custom machine sought after for years and command a price over massed produced products.
Thanks for the info on the chameleon paint job. That should be useful for my project if i do so decide to make a machine like that. Right now I'm having a complete pain the the ass trying to make my machines light as hell and balanced at the same time. I'll be sure to get some pics up sometime in the next week or so. I've just been uber busy fucking around with like 4 projects. I know taz wants to see some of my work and machines. I might actually stop down by him while I'm in the state... Other than that if anyone has any more information on half coils. I've played witha few seperate ideas but nothing that i really like the specs on my ems200. I mean I can get them to push small needles with ease. But I want the same power that original coils offer. Idfk... trial and error. Once i get it perfected I'll be sure to let you guys know. Pretty soon I'll be up to taking custom orders on frames. I gained a ton more cnc access now so it's getting to be where I have like 4-5 hours a night if i choose to work on it... But I think it's about time I cleaned my place... the wife and I haven't been home almost all week... Keep the ideas / suggestions coming my way...
you are a little arrogant starting out your IDEA of making machines with the criteria of who will be allowed to buy them, and how they would need to show proof before they can get one. as if your shit is already so sought after you are already filtering out your market. i would wait till i have a product till you start playing the elitist builder who is in such high demand that you need to make sure not to sell them to the everyman. but you are asking for advice from people that arent proving credibility. i'd build a run then start deciding who is good enough to buy them.
i appreciate you are only going to sell to professionals, thats alot more then many people can say, and by doing that you will build a reputation and a following. but this board is a poor spot to ask because mostly scratchers come here to get info, there are professional boards to talk shop stuff, and this isnt one of them
