Do you still feel your first tattoo? Of course not. If it hurts, big deal, it will only be for the duration of the tattooing process, then you're good to go like a taco bell menu item. If it's what you want, then get it done!

If the tattoo on the back of my neck was the first it surely would have been my last. Your neck starts to hurt after 5 @#$%ing minutes (an d becomes almost unbearable after an hour or two of stretching... its torture after four) and you need to keep your neck strait during healing (with a super soar neck) and threw out my back last time... You earn tattoos on your neck. It hurts a lot.

Ok, I lied a bit I guess. I did get more tattoos after my neck. Even the other side of my neck, but still, it was probably a long time and I certainly aint looking forward to fixing up the other side I got some 10 years ago... I dont remember that one hurting as much as the other two so much for some reason...

hey tearz, thought i'd tell you about my experience w/ my neck tattoo. i thought it was gonna hurt like hell, and i was prepared for it, cuase when i really want a tattoo, especially in a place i know it's gonna kill, if i really want it, i will get it... no matter how bad it kills. I've got tats on my wrists going up towards my elbows, got tats on my arms near shoulder, upper/lower back, upper center back, lower center back, both shoulder blades, a few on my stomach, and the one on my neck. Now out of all the places i been tatted on, i have to say, the stomach hurt me the most. The neck tattoo didn't really hurt me much... it felt like a lot of pressure... i mostly just felt pressure... my neck, i got no flabby skin up there.. i'm all bone and thin skin up there... all i felt was a tingling feeling and the pressure too... yeh, i felt the needle/ and a burning sensation too... but i felt the pressure more... the outline hurt more then the filling, but not by much... i pretty much felt every bit of it... but some of the pain actually felt good to me... surprised you are getting your 2nd on your neck... my neck one i believe i got that as my 11th or 12th one. Out of curiousity, where is your first one at? if you ever had ones done on your back, i can say times that pain by at least 2. hope that helps..

oh yeah.. i forgot to say... my neck tattoo is on the back of my neck. What i originally wanted to do was a half collar... where it would go halfway around my neck... from the left side to the back to the right side... (so nothing would show in front, you'd just see the sides and back).... glad i didn't cuase i probaly, maybe would of stopped in the beginning... that's kinda near my throat. anywho, i wouldn't say it depends on the neck where you go, but i could imagine it hurts way more in the front then it does the back.. look at Mike Metzger (Metal Mullisha - FMX)... he's got one right in the front by his throat... as for tattoos hurting... the advice i always give ppl who ask me, i always say, no matter where you get it it's gonna hurt, whether you get it big or small. i always tell them to get the size they want, and not go small... cuase if they can take the pain, they'll probaly regret it later like i did w/ my right arm, cuase then i had to do a cover up and go bigger to the size i originally wanted. as for what Gabe said about neck tats, about earning them, i share some of your opinion but not all of it.. i don't know about the earn part, but i think you should wait right now and fully think it thru. i'm not saying it cuase you want your 2nd tat to be on your neck, i'm saying it cuase of the job world... 2 places i know at least in my hometown that kinda looks down upon tattoos (at least places on your body where you have them) are your hands (fingers, wrists, lower arms), and neck (whole/or half collar, or any part of the neck). I have tats in both those areas (wrist/lower arms and back center neck)..and i knew what i was doing when i got them... i knew i was jeopardizing my life for the job world... but i'm already fucked in that direction.... i couldn't get a job when i had 0 (ZERO, NO) tats at all... no tats and no job. i joined the army and i accumulated all 14 tats while in it... I entered w/ 1 tat...(so 15 total now) and i'm still in the military. they have certain rules, but they're pretty lenient now on tats. and i know i can always get more if i want, cuase i'll be here in my job... but if i was in civilian world, i'd probaly be working the same shit jobs i use to, or on my way to prison. ( i was on my way to prison and was hanging by a thread before i joined the military... needed money bad... but that's a story for another time.). anywho, if you don't have luck in the civilian world finding a job after you get the tat, join the military, they'll take you.. so long as your tat ain't racist or anything...

Piggybacking on what Kryptik said... You can join any branch, except the Air Force. They won't take you if you have a tattoo on your neck. They have the strictest rules concerning tattoos. It sucks.

Had a young lady come in a few months ago that was trying to get into the Marine Corps. and was told she would have to get the Kenji symbol on the back of her neck removed first, she was seeking a referal to a laser tech,,just so ya know it ain't just the Air Force. Personally, I don't do neck tattoos because of how it can effect job choices but that's just me...Doc

theval is right. i forgot bout the air force. they are very strict. as for the marines, my sis' boyfriend is a marine recruiter. i never heard him say anything about whether or not neck tats are allowed... he's got lots of tats himself. i don't know how strict navy is. from what i heard coast guard is pretty strict... but army is pretty lenient... but then again, army's #'s are down for recruits right now... they passed that tat rule (which i was ecstatic about), and then they started lowering their standards and upping the pay again... in fact, this is probaly the best time to join while the standards are low...basic would be a cakewalk compared to what some others and i went thru... w/ the war going on, they need ppl and are trying to get them anyway they can... so if they have to pass a tat law and lower standards to do it, then thats what they be doing. if you're seriously considering the thought of doing it though, like you're thinking, "well, i'll go get my neck tatted up, try to get job in civilian world, and if that doesn't work, i'll just join the army..." you could do it that way, but most ppl wait till like the week or 2 before they ship to get the tat... the screening process/meps can be an ordeal, specially if you got tats.. there's waivers and lot of forms you got to sign bout yo tats, what they are, what they mean, etc.. we had guys wanting tats who were scheduled to ship diff dates.. (in the DEP program), they would wait like 1-2 weeks before the day they shipped... that way, if they got it, they couldn't be stopped.

It's ok Kryptik, everyone forgets about the AF. I will disagree with you on one point though.. I hate the fact that they are lowering the standards. We are ending up with moronic people that shouldn't be in the fucking military because of that. The people that are squeaking in now are the types that are going to cause trouble, contribute to the gang problems, and be the ones getting someone killed. If you meant that they are lowering the restrictions - only as far as tattoos- and you didn't mean actual standards for recruits, then disregard what I said above.

theval, i just said te lowering standards bit becuase some ppl who read who may want to join, sometimes are looking or thinking the military is an easy ride, or as one of my NCO's put it the other day, "a quick fix".. which he said it isn't. some ppl think it's gonna be easy, but it isn't... maybe you're a pt stud, but the mental shit they do might get to you, or maybe you're like me.... the mental shit didn't break me, but the fuckin PT did.. since i suck at it...still. w/ what's going on, doing pushup's on knees, hell, we did that, but only when we really achieved total muscle failure... and now they got stress cards, and i heard drill sergeants can't yell anymore. what's the point of being a DS if you can't fully do your job? part of how they scare ppl and weed ppl out is thru some of that yelling...

ok i remember what else i wanted to say... first off, i came in before the standards got lowered... and let me tell you, before we had the "moronic ppl" you say we got coming in now... let me tell you, we had them before those standards got lowered... even before i even got approved by MEPS to be in the military, i tried for 1 yr 1/2 to get into Nat. Guard... the recruiter didn't want to do his job.. i ended up working w/ about 7-8 diff. recruiters before i totally said, fuck you, i'm going to try a diff. branch... i talked to an AF guy, he sounded like a robot... if that's the product the AF turns out, then sorry, i don't want to be no robot... turned them down,, plus there was a wait list anyways for where i live for about 2 yrs. Marines, i was never interested in them, nor navy or coast gaurd.. so that left army and reserves... i chose reg. army... and i got in in 1 week. army was glad to take me...and not cuase they were trying to make a quota either.. but the point of me saying all this: During those 1 1/2 -2 yrs i was so trying to get in... me, i'm a fucking straight arrow... never been arrested, never done any drugs, never smoked, rarely drink...i'm a clean fuckin straight arrow person... but for some reason during the time i was trying to get in, you would think i'm the ideal candidate what they want... (and i'm not obese by the way either, i know that keeps some ppl out).. but for some reason they didn't at that time... ya know who they were choosing at that time: x-cons, ppl who have done alot of drugs, ppl who have committed MURDER ( i shit you not), bad crimes... they're letting these ppl in, but not me? what's the fuckin deal w/ that? you tell me that that's not fuckin insane and moronic right there? how were those ppl getting in and not me? so like i said, before the standards were lowered, we had fuckin dumb fucks in there already.

My tattoo on the back of my neck hurt like hell. The outline was worse and it wasn't as bad the whole time either. I have no idea why at some times it hurt more than others. The tattoo artist told me that neck tattoos were really painful.

I have one on the back of my neck and it was the least painful of all my tattoos. About what the previous poster said about earning a neck tattoo. . . I didn't have that experience at all. The only time it was even mildly painful was towards the sides of my neck where the muscles are. But then again, women do have a higher pain tolerance than men :)

I just got a tattoo on the back of my neck this past weekend at the Palms in Vegas. I can handle pain! I got my boobs done under the muscle and went out to dinner the next night, I broke my ribs last summer in a soccer game and finished the game before going to the hospital, but, the tat on my neck hurt like a son of a bitch! when he hit the spine with the needle it just pinched bad. my knuckles were white from squeezing the chair. I kept holding my breath because I didn't want to complain. My tat took over an hour and made the muscles and skin and bone hurt bad for days. It is still really sore but, I absolutely LOVE my tat!! I would do it again in a heart beat! I got cherry blossoms and it takes up a good portion of the back of my neck but, I can completely cover it with my hair. I am a teacher and it would really be frowned upon!

To the previous messanger. I am glad to hear someone else is a teacher with a tattoo. I just cant decide if I want it on my upper neck or on my inner wrist. It is only going to be the symbol for courage in black and not too big. We will see. Any opinions?

i am getting my first tat for my 16th b-day(in less than 2 weeks) and i want to get it on the back of my neck. i have already picked out a design- its going to be a quarter moon w/ fairy wings and a star shooting towards it-it will be small and right below my hair line so i can cover it with my hair if need be because i know how judgemental society is and dont want to deal w their bs, but i have thought long and hard and really want one.the tattoo artist at the place i am getting mine done at said it wouldnt hurt that bad and it would probably go numb before he is even done outlining it (he has 3 on his neck-one is right where i am getting mine). i even got a safety pen and poked the back of my neck like 20-30 times really fast to see how bad it hurt w/o piercing the skin and it just felt like a small tingle, does it get a lot worse. i have a high tolerence for pain-i tore my ACL in my knee and my cartlige was shredded for 3 months before i said anything to anyone about the pain and i had to wait 6 more months before i could have surgery,i have sprained or fractured both my ankles countless times, and broken all ten of my toes some more than once (i am not very graceful). I keep reading diffrent opinions about the pain and i just want to know peoples opinions on what i should do. does it really kill? am i too young? what do you think of the tat? would it be cute? etc....i just am a little nerves but at the same time cant wait to get it! :)

it does not matter how many tattoos you have nor where you get it everytime is going to hurt ya a little on where you get it but it could be your second or your 40th it will still hurt

I just got my neck tattooed a week ago and i was terrified, i have 5 other tattoos but i hate needles...ironically(sp?) the tattoo i got when from my hairline directly down my spine up , well the neck part of the spine...but anyways point is it was all basically on my spine the outline did sting a bit but after a few seconds i was distracted from the pain, just bring a friend to talk to during the tattooing process.. The fill in wasnt painful at all, to be honest it felt rather nice lol

I was reading all the corresponences on if a tattoo on the back of the neck hurts. I have 5 (i'm a female). A full size fantasy fairy on the outside of my entire left calf, angel wings on my shoulder blades, small flower on my right arm (first tattoo) and 2 chinese symbols on my foot. I am looking to get a tattoo tomorrow on the back of my neck with my childrens initials on it. My question is if a neck tattoo hurts worse than a tattoo on the top of the foot? That one hurt worse than any other one I had. Just curious as I don't know anybody that has tattoos on the back of the neck.

I just got my first tattoo yesterday and it's on the back of my neck. It's a Hebrew word, and I am totally in love with it. In terms of pain, it was completely bearable, though certainly not pleasant. Although it was unlike any other sensation I have ever felt, the most similar feeling I could attribute it to would be gentle bee stings. It really wasn't that bad, and it was 150% worth it!

Mine didn't hurt, but, it also doesn't cover the entire back of my neck. It's just a little something (approx. 4" Hx 3"W) I drew for my daughter. I went to Joe Rose here in New Hope, PA. Actually, I thought it was the least painful of the other tattoos I have had done.

actually, it really all depends on your pain tolerance, too. Everybody reacts differently to pain. As far as the subject of jobs go: If you work in the (yawn) corporate environment, I think it will be a bit of an issue. If your job requires you to meet with clients face to face, I don't believe getting ink in a highly visible area is recommended. I meet with clients face to face, but, I'm a Massage Therapist, and people don't really give two shits about my tattoo's. They can't really see them anyway, due to the fact that the lighting in the Spa is dimmed, and half the time they're lying face down. Hell, we have a girl with 00ga skin tunnels in her ears. The point is, think about the possibility of the effects of your job. If you're still not sure, look it up in your employee handbook. Or ask your boss if you're really feeling ballzy.

ok i had my first tattoo on my hip/stomach when i was 15 and that didnt hurt at all im 16 now and want my second tattoo on the back of my neck and between my shoulders... if any1 could compare this pain to anything to give me an idea on how much it hurts.. please do :)

I got my first tattoo on my stomach when i was 16 and i thought that pain wasn't too bad at all. So when I went for my tattoo on my neck and between my shoulders I was dreading it thinking it would hurt so much more than the stomach. Suprisingly when i got it done it hurt alot less than the stomach and some bits I barely felt and my neck tattoo took alot longer. A total of almost 3 hours! I felt more bored of waiting than i felt pain so if I was you I'd go for it and not worry too much. :)

I got a tattoo on the back of my neck on the weekend. I was surprised by how much it didn't hurt, only when it went over my spine did I really feel it, but then I just concentrated on my breathing and it was fine. Upper back is definitely less painful than neck.

that's where I got my first tattooo it didn't hurt much...it was like someone scratching my neck raw.....annoying but nothing more
