Hey thanks for not being a dick like everyone else ex. (wasp or soft touch) your right I am only 15 and i do not know everything about tattooing but I really want to learn so if you could, could you tell me what i shold be focused on and what kind of stuff to draw, also what should be in my portfolio of e-mail me at [email removed] Thanks

ok great you are showing maturity here and thats great.something even us old farts lack at times.as far as focusing on what to draw well draw what drives you.what makes you happy like tigers dragons ladies guns dice flames skulls.keep open about it you may be able to draw wicked wolves but ya totaly suck at a simple pair of dice find your weekness and focus on that in a short time you will see the difference.i try to keep a varity of style and not stick to just one item.for right now focus on drawing go get a mechanical pencil and replace the 2b led with just b led.if ya can i highly recomened these 3 books.1 how to draw life like portraits from photographs by lee hammond 2 drawing from the left side or the right side (never can remember which one) of the brain 3 drawing human anatomy made easy.these will help with light composure reflection shade tone depth and all around composition.as far as what to put in the portfolio do a versatile composure keep them simple try not to do too much detail.dice skulls animals hearts roses fairys and such.when you feel good enough and comfartable to go to a good reputabile shop ask the artist there for some constructive critique on your work.if the person is a real ass about it find someone else that will be willing to say something like this. well i see potential but your shading on the skull is all wrong you need to try this or that listen to the sugesstions and give it a try.your at a good age to start my son got interested when he was 12 ,4 years ago i have let him pick up a machine only 3 times and actually tattoo 2 times on me and 1 time on a very close friend and i made it to where if he screwed up it could be fixed.so hes going through one of the longest apprenticeships i know of.why? because im just a hard ass on him and i see the potential in him.so i piss him off alot and make him work.in the end he says thanks and it helped. as far as the rest of tattooing this should really be discussed with your mentor the one who will teach you a formal apprenticeship is the best way to go.there you will learn cross contam sterilization machine tech and so on and such but ill answer what i can for ya hope this helps feel free to keep asking if i feel it is a technical question ill tell ya and ya wont get the answer frome me untuil it is time for you to recive the answer and then it may not even be me giving the answer best of luck hope this helps and dont be afraid to ask

Hey Erlich would you recomend me getting a tattoo machine and if you do what kind do you think I should get

at this point and time you need to focus on patience.the only reaso you should get a machine at this point in time is to attach to your pencil to get used to the weight and such.stay focused on the drawing keep patience

Is there any way that I could scan some of my drawing and put them on this site or e-mail them to you, and if so would you want to give me some advice on what I should work on and such.

It might be a few days untill i can get those drawings to you I need to buy a scanner. Also who is this "who cares" guy he's very annoying

ok on the few days ive got a hp printer copier and scanner cost like 80 bucks at wally world cheap but a good all around piece of equipment.not sure who the person in question is try not to let them get to ya as i try not also.with the holidays upon us the suicde rate up by 80 percent and the added stress and all during these times i think everyone just gets testy and we all need a place to just vent

elrich i have gained the upmost respect 4 u after reading all the crap u stay a class act .and yes i do love to bust balls and vent but its all in fun for me.you ask dum quetions your gonna get dum responses.so WHO CARES!

Hey I was wondering if all of the stuff that I draw should be in my portfolio or just my best work,

to the posters of this post.THANKYOU! who cares i understand its all in fun and all but it is so hard and impossibile to put feelings into type written words. but thankyou for the very heavy compliment,that means more than words can say,in any manner.i always try to be honest and give the best i can. as far as portfoli and what is contained.it should be what YOU FEEL IS YOUR BEST! but remember there are very nasty people out in the world so take what they say EVEN IF IT PISSES YOU OFF TO NO ENDS! and let it soak in and say to yourself ok what can i learn from this.sometimes people being a ass is the best way to get through to BETTER YOUR ART! again thankyou so much for the kind words they are GREATLEY APPREICATED.

I mean should I keep everything that I draw or just stuff that I think is good

put what you feel is your best in the portfolio.keep the rest as a refernce material say your drawing a face and you didnt like say the eye placement.keep it to look at so you can judge where you went wrong and use it to correct your errors.thats what i do unless i just get disgusted then i rant and rave beat my head against the wall and say over and over stupid stupid.lol.i generally rip the drawing up out of disgust.my wife told me that i am my worst critique and im being too hard on myself.i asked her to look at the great artist they too were there worst critic.thus it lead them to there own demise in the end.
