I plan on getting my first tattoo soon (don't worry, I've been reading about it for a year now) and one thing that really bothers me is the possibility of fainting during the tattoo process. I have a habit of passing out for no reason, and I'm wondering if this could really screw up the tattoo. If I just slump over, or fall off the chair wouldn't that make the tattoo artist screw up? I really want this tattoo, but I don't want to get it if there is a possibility that I'll ruin everything.
Fainting/Passing Out?

You should see your doc about the out of no where fainting spells first. If he says you're OK to get tattooed then talk to your artist, mabey they could duct tape you to the chair...................LMAO!Make sure you get a picture of it!
Well, they're either from panic attacks or low blood sugar. When it's a panic attack it's usually random, and if it's from low blood sugar I can sometimes feel it coming on. The whole "taping to a chair thing" might have to work.
Well def talk this over with who ever you choose for an artist, nobody wants someone falling over and getting hurt on their watch.
Yeah, I will definately talk it over with the tattooist. But, I'm just so afraid that I will faint (which will make my body move) and that will completely screw up the tattoo. I guess if the tattoo artist knows about it there could be ways to prevent it.
well first off this is not a normal condition so go see a doc.are you sure its not narcolepsey ( sudden falling asleep) as far as screwing it up if you get a compident artist then you should do fine take a friend along to help keep a eye on you to alert the artist if needed. usually a good artist can tell when its going to happen before. if the body does jump around upon passing out this sounds like a petite form of epliepsey i have jumpy clients all the time and ya just work with it. so it shouldnt be that big of a issue with your artist
DEFINITELY see your Doctor first, and if (s)he gives you the OK, make sure you bring a friend with you for the tattoo. The artist is looking at the tattoo, not your face to see if you're awake or not. You're friends job is to alert the artist when they see you starting to doze.
I have been to several doctors and they say it's just panic attacks and low blood sugar. With a panic attack that's just a mental problem so it shouldn't bother my health to get a tattoo. And the low blood sugar is just because of my eating habits, if I actually eat then I shouldn't pass out.
I guess I just didn't want to tell the tattooist my whole personal health story, but I'll basically have to won't I?
Of course you have to tell the artist...although any experienced artist will be on the look out for Fainters..happens a lot!!
The most common cause of fainting in a situation like this is...a person will work themselves up before a tattoo, be filled with undue anticipation wich causes your body to produce adreneline....the passing out occurs after the start of the tattoo when your body realizes that there was no need for all the adreneline, It causes an "overload" wich results in the person passing out......This is common, but does not mean you should not talk to your doctor to make sure it isnt something more serious.
