Fixing a tattoo

9 messages · last activity 2/6/2007

I just got a tattoo last week and I know it looks like crap. The design is great, but all the lines are shaky and uneven. Obviously, I need to wait until the tattoo heals before I get it fixed, but once it's healed do I still need to wait a bit longer? I tried looking for the answer, but all I found were people covering up tattoos that were years old. I don't really know how it would work for a new tattoo.
Once it is healed (varied time 14-30 days) u can get it touched up.If the lines are real shakey you may want to go to a different artist and look at his portfolio,
In the interest of being safe and not sorry I would recommend that you wait at least 6-8 weeks...let your body heal completely before causing more damage...and oh yeah...get a new artist!!
Yeah, I'm definately going to a different artist, right now I'm searching for one (and asking locals about their recomendations) The waiting period you guys have suggested is basically how long I assumed it would be, so that's all good.
Where do you live? We work and know artists all over the states( and some of the world!)
I live in the northwestern corner of Ohio, the closest cities are Toledo, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana. I really don't want to travel farther than those two places, especially since they're about 2 hours from me.

I've always gone by the two month waiting period. By this time even the slow healers have pretty much allowed their bodies all the time needed to complete a total healing process. But keep in mind, had you waited a lengthy amount of time and put in some more research on your artist you wouldnt' be in this position to begin with. I"m not trying to come down on ya , just saying take your time this time around.
Well, I did wait a year before I got the tattoo. The only problem was that the photos in the guy's portfolio do not corresponde with how well he tattoos...if that makes any sense. Maybe I was just his "off" customer, I don't know. But, there's no point in sulking in the past (even if it was just a week ago) the only thing that matters now is that it will be fixed.
