Foot tattoo aftercare?

9 messages · last activity 6/12/2009

OK, so im kinda confused about the contrasting info on aftercare. 2 days ago I got 7 stars scattered accross my foot but my artist told me to keep it covered and wear a sock at all times. However, looking around on the internet, a lot of info says to wear open sandals to let air get to it. Im really confused! Can anyone help?!
HI katie, I got a foot tattoo this morning, I was told to let as much air to it as possible. To wear shoes that allow the skin to breath and under no circumstances wear a sock and if I have to wear boots then only minimal periods of time for at least 2 weeks. This is pretty hard going in March in the UK, but I would rather do all this than have a foot infection. x
Hey, thanks for your reply. I really dont know what i should be doing then, as my friends said i should listen to the advice from my artist. He told me that as its so close to the ground, I should keep it covered to prevent any dirt or bacteria getting in it. So far its been covered 24/7! Im kinda confused aswell as it doesnt seem to be going through any kind of healing process. I got it 5 days ago but it hasn't gone red, scabbed, or peeled or anything yet. Let me know how yours progresses!
hey yall i just got a tattoo on my left foot on 3/23/09 my artist and everyone i know who is "tattoo-savvy" has told me NO SOCKS or closed shoes especially the first 2 weeks but i have also heard to get the best healing and color preservation you should avoid those things like 3 months ( as much as possible of course) and whenever possible go barefoot. easy for me seeing as im a country girl and its already like 85 degrees here. when i have to wear shoes though, ive been wearing flip flops to walk and when i get still i slip it off and just stand on top of it. hope this helps!

Hey, Hopefully your foot tattoo is fully healed by now. But I thought I'd let you know I just got a second foot tattoo (10-Jun-09) and I have always been told No Shoes or socks. Flip flops that don't touch the tattoo are recommended. Keep it clean with Ivory or Dove unscented soap when showering. I'm doing my best to keep it clean it's hard when hair stick in the oitment (sp?) they provided. Best of luck !
