Fragranced Lotion

3 messages · last activity 11/1/2005

I realized the other day that I had been using a fraganced lubriderm on my new tattoo for the past week. I now believe this is likely to be the reason I recently noticed pimple like bumps forming underneath my tattoo the past couple of days. I have discontinued using the lotion and am now using A&D. Does anyone know if this pimple-like rash from the fragranced lotion is anything serious or damaging, or somthing that should easily clear up in a few days?
call your tattoo artist and ask them if after you get thier views see if it keeps the same or clears up then after that if it starts to get worse i would suggest you contact your doctor if you want to save your tattoo.
The fragrance in the lotion is most likely alcohol-based. That alcohol is drying out the new pigment in your skin and is causing a "pigment rash". The A&D is a MUCH better choice to care for your tattoo. Make sure, for anyone getting your first tattoo, that you remember to NEVER use Vaseline, scented lotion, or anything that is alcohol-based to lube your new tattoo. These products can cause pigment rashes, can cause allergic reactions, or can draw out the pigment in a still healing tattoo. I am NOT saying to never use these products again (because Lord knows, I do) but I am saying not to use them while your tattoo is healing. I, personally, suggest that anyone getting new ink work done use a product called InkFixx. I am not a representative of that company, I am just a loyal customer. I love the product and I think it really works. I also use it for my piercings. They have a tendency to not want to heal correctly and using the InkFixx really helps me out. You can ask at your local tattoo parlor about InkFixx. If they don't carry it, they can order it. You can find ads for it in any reputable tattoo magazine. If your tattoo parlor doesn't have InkFixx, then A&D is the next best thing, just make sure that it is the regular A&D, not the kind with Zinc or anything else added into it. Additives mean an additional chance for irritations. Another option is Udder Cream, which you can find at Wal-Mart it is so ubiquitous. If you are a lotion fan, and only want to use lotion, then I suggest original Kari. InkFixx, Tattoo Goo, and Cherry Bomb are all products that are designed for tattoos. They are specifically made with all natural ingredients so that they are less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions.
