Hey folks...
For a while now i have been thinking about a design to get tattood on my calve / ankle... I want something that represents me, my way of life and my philosophy in life (which is a bit long to explain.... ) I have thought of various things, drawings, symbols, words, everything..Thing is that i think whatever i get, it would look and be 'outdated' in a couple of years... I mean, maybe i have a totally different idea of life in 10 years...
So the only thing that keeps coming back to my mind is to get my first name in really simple handwritten letters... I think my name ( btw, my name is "EDSON" which is quite uncommon here... ) will be something that will never change, that represents me to the fullest, with all my ideas, my flaws, fears, happynesses, memories, experiences etc...
And if in 10 years all this changes, the meaning of the tattoo can evolve together with myself... see ?? ( i'm getting complicated again... ) for example, now it could mean "working hard to survive and live and eat and get my diploma" and in 10 years it could mean "filthy rich loving luxury"... So if i get "poor student" now, it won't have any meaning anymore ... (silly example, i know... )
Problem is..... i'm afraid it could look / be a bit stupid to have my own name written on my ankle and people would make fun of me .... what do you think ?
(sorry for long post... )
greets,
Wonderboy

Your logic sounds great to me. I don't see any problem with having your own name tattooed on yourself... and remember, it's your body, your thoughts, your ideas... who cares what anyone else thinks???
Have you thought of having you name tattooed in another language so it won't be so obvious? Maybe kanji or something? Or what is the meaning of your name? Have that symbol tatted instead.
Just a thought... for whatever it's worth.
Whatever you decide... enjoy it!
Yup, the other language thing has been suggested already, thing is, but it's a bit of the same thing... I really loved these japanese / chinese signs but now it seems like everybody has got them and in a couple of years i'm afraid they'll look a little 'outdated' ... so that's why i want to keep it as simple as possible... thanks a lot for your reply !! :)
if it's really what you want then go for it. I personally would never get my name because it just seems a bit goofy to me. I do laugh to myself when I see it on others, but I would never say anything, unless I knew the person, then I'd have to give them a hard time.
Afterall, I'm sure in the late 80's and early 90's it seemed like a tribal or barbed wire armband would always be tough...but now here we are,2005, and they sell tribal armbands out of a gumball machine at the grocery store for 50 cents so your daughter can wear one.
oh well, to each his own.
maybe you could get your tattoo artist to draw up something that wouldn't be so obviously your name...just a thought.
Good Luck.
aup peeps!
so then can someone tell me whats the deal with tattoos anyway? everyone wants one but half of us will never get one cos were to scared! i think the best tattoo for anyone is something that means some thing to you who cares if it goes out of date in years to come it reflects who you are not what fashion trend is in this week!
A stylized E reminiscent of the OM symbol
I too have thought of this but i have decided to put my name in greek since i am greek and this way not everyone will know what it means. and my name is from a greek goddess so as i know it has not outdated itself so it will be great when i get mine done next week
