getting tat at 16

im 16 and im getting a tattoo in 2 weeks on my right calf.... i really feel comfortable about what i am getting....i have made alot of big decisions so far and i think this one is no different and i'm glad i am getting it

Don't you think there is a reason ( actually a lot of reasons) why 99% of the professionals on this forum will not tattoo minors?We see the aftermath every day , covering up the kind of work most people get when they get tattooed at too young an age... No we don't think All 16 year olds are too immature... No we don't think ALL 16 year olds are stupid....But we have to draw a line somewhere...we cannot simply spend the time to get to know a kid to ascertain that he/she is mature enough to make what could be a life altering decision...Sure, there are some 16 year olds who are mature enough to make such important decisions, but certainly not all and certainly not even a good percentage. We cover up those adolescent tattoos EVERY FUCKIN DAY!!!! Why not encourage these kids to wait a couple of years and make an INFORMED decision?...and yes, before you even say it there are adults who are immature too...so what?When a person reaches his/her majority...LET EM get any damned thing they want...they are ADULTS!! It just amazes me how many adults think its ok to let minors get tattooed...It is CRAZY!!! In the past week we have covered 4 separate tattoos that people got as minors and they all SUCKED...BAD!!! This is why MOST professional tattoo artists just refuse to tattoo minors...9 times out of 10 that tattoo is a MISTAKE and will be regretted.

I think its real funny how we have yet to see a single good tattoo on a 16 year old yet so many kids still insist they can...

Very simple, so a 16 year old can answer, question...shadowshate, exactly what "important" decisions have you made in your life up to this point? Car? Prom? Ambercrombie and Fitch or The Buckle? Seriously bro, your life is going to be throwing you some fucked-up-shit down the road whether you want it to or not. It's called GROWING UP. Do that first, figure out who you are, and then look into getting a tattoo. It makes a big difference!.... But if that is too much for you to understand, we'll see you in about 2 years and the only "important" thing about your tattoo is how much you are going to be willing to spend to get it covered up.... We like those.

hey there.. firstly, there is nothing wrong with wanting a tattoo at 16, im 24 and remember some of the girls in my class at school who all had tattoos and i was the odd one out.., not because i thought it was cool, or because they had one and i didnt, it was the fact that at the time it was what i wanted and i actually craved for one, .. however.. think long and hard about what it is your going to have done, . people change over time.. im glad i didnt get one done.. i wanted one of a dolphin, etc(im female by the way).. i eventually got a tat when i was 22, however, i as sooooo glad i waited because there is no way now that i would have a dolphin done, like i sed, people change and so do there likes and dislikes

Nope...nothing wrong with WANTING a tattoo at 16...whats wrong is GETTING a tattoo at 16. Why can't you people get it...We are professionals...we cover up these mistakes every damn day....its not a conspiracy...we do know what we are talking about...its only 2 years for gods sake...those two years can make a big difference in your mindset. Read the post...all of them ...there are literally hundreds of people who regret tattoos gotten too early in life and only a very few who do not regret them...Its staring you in the face....not to mention we know the kind of people who do tattoo minors, legally or illegally...in nearly ALL of these cases a tattoo artist who does tattoo minors is not someone you would want to tattoo you...Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but they are rare indeed Most of us could just say "fuck it" and probably double our tattoo income just by selling out and tattooing minors but we won't. Listen or not...its your skin, but your skin is not gettin ink at MY shops!

Now I am lost.....not sure where the confusion is coming from....You said that you are 15 and trying to convince your mom that if a shop is in order and the guy doing them "looks" clean everything "should be okay. Once again bro, way to young to thinking tattoo right now, therefore take the next few years, find out what makes you, you. THEN make an educated decision about the tattoo that you want.... then you won't have to convince your Mom about anything because hopefully by that time you will be able to make an informative decision on your own...I'm am NOT call you ignorant! It's all apart of that growing up thing, cool? 2nd...Shop cleanliness IS VERY important but you can not judge the artist by the way they appear. That doesn't mean a damn thing in the grand scheme. Therefore, research the artists in your area, maybe even a little further beyond. THE POINT...Take you time Kid, because the artists that you WILL want to get at tattoo from WILL NOT tattoo a minor. Now i would be a hypocrite if i said don't do it, but i can tell you from experience that it is not a good idea. I was 16 when i got my first tattoo and i do regret it, you have the rest of your life in front of you at least wait till your 18 and if you feel as strongly as you do now to gettin the tattoo done then go for it but there is no point in putting a piece of art on your body if you are going to look back at it in a few years time and say WHY? well i hope this has helped good luck whatever

Alright Shadowshate here is the explaination of my tattoos and what they mean to me. I used to be into all the fancy, shiny, electronic eye candy of the modern electronic world. It literally consumed me for years! I thought that if I had all of these fancy fucking gizmos that I would be more accepted by my friends and others as being the cool guy. Was I dead fucking wrong! All I ended up with was an accumulated mass of debt and loneliness. It even took it's toll with my now ex-fiance'. I took for granted a human being for the sake of an electronic junkie addiction and it cost me everything and left only heartache..... So my right arm, which is currently being sleeved out in bio-mech black and gray, represents that. How appropriate that what once was state-of-the-art, glimmering, light speed, gotta-have gotta-have gotta-have, now instead of being polished and bright, covers a part of my body in its true colors, black and grey. A permenant reminder that there are more beautiful, non-tangable things in life than what we can't buy at a commercialized "tinker" store. When I was about your age, keep in mind I turn 26 this month so this isn't a "once upon a time" story.... I was very numb to my emotions. I kept them locked away inside of me until they exploded usually at someone that I loved or some poor smuck that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. That cost me many close friends whom I haven't spoken to since those times and a lot of other things. So on my left arm, which will be the next to be sleeved currently has a stone mask with fire and water demon masks behind it. This represents the numb appearance I portrayed all the while my feelings, be whatever they may have been during those times, growing and festering until they couldn't be contained. (The many masks we wear, if you will.) That piece is on my forearm....On my shoulder I have a cross with two Kanji's that translate "Pure Spirit" with my, yes, my ex-fiance's name above it. There is an explanation behind it but it is very personal, please be respectful of that...I know, tattoo's last longer than romance.... Still to be added to my left arm, a fetus in a womb on my bicep. My fiance' had a misscarraige over a year ago. It would have been my first and atleast this way I will be able to hold my baby. And on my shoulder around the cross will be two angels....once again, very personal to me so I would like to keep that to myself. Kid, I hope this satisfies your curiousity and helps you to understand more about what I said about life throwing some fucked up shit at you. I am only 10 years your senior and have my fair share of it. What may be important and meaningful to you now will not necessarily be that to you 10-plus years to you down the line. Be one of the "wiser beyond their years" 16 year olds and use listen to those before you! Take care.......J

I was 16 when I got my tattoo, the only difference is that i designed my own tattoo so I know I wont want to get it covered up. I think that it shouldn't matter what age you get your tattoo...well younger than at least 15 anyway. Just you have to want that tattoo, the 1st one shouldn't be one that you just get to fit in to be "cool" and you shouldn't have to look at it everyday and think "what was I THINKING!?!. You should apretiate it and be able to look back at the 1st time you sat in that chair and not remembering the pain but how happy you were when it was done... well that's my opinion anyway.
