We just use water.
Theres to many toxins in tap water plus that just makes it to thin...
i buy premixed sumi graywash but if i want liter ill use distilled water or green soap or i dip into a rinse cup gets messy sometimes but it works
I also use sumi gray wash but I have to cut it to get those def. shades. You guys act like you have never used witch hasi?????
Said NOTHING about tap water there sparky...we use distilled...and kurosumi graywash is just kurosumi diluted with water...why not save money and buy the full strength kuro and mix it with distilled water yourself?
Ya sparky you got a point ill probley do that for now on.
Used mix my own grey with drinking water (little botles) 40 cents a pop. then I pour some in two rinse cup and the rest I use it as my green-soap mix bottle since this kind of bottles I buy have a nipple to squirt a jet. One bottle per client no mess.
Now I've been using Holy Smoke Ink by Gentleman Jim and I don't think I'll ever mix my own grey.
I use Silverback Ink http://www.silverbackink.com/ it is some of the best pre mix wash out there. I found it through Ethan Morgan , Bob Tyrell , Tommy Lee and a few others. If you like an easy wash that is consistant then give it a go.
I got the guys here at the Angel both the Silver back and the Holysmoke black & gray systems....although I am gonna stick to the water wash method they seem to oove the convenience of the premixes. I think both sysyems, the Silverback and the Holysmoke are good systems that perform exactly as they promise.
Kuro Sumi graywash is a ripoff...just get the full strength Kuro and dilute it with distilled water and there ya have the graywash and saved a lot of money!
in my opinion kuro sumi sucks ass...
I've never used green soap to make a wash of any color...
I don't pre-mix either..
I like to mix when I set up my caps...and just keep a cup of wash cup of distilled water on my tray in case I need a lighter tone...
But that's just what works for me...
i use sumi outlining ink and dip it into the bubbly part of a rinse cup filled with green soap(shake up the cup)
can some one give me the proper dilution formula for making greywash with sumi ink?...i have full strength outline ink and need to know how much distilled water...how much green soap...and how much concentrated sumi to mis in a 1 oz. bottle...thanks for any help on this matter...also curious as to where i can post some of my art work for everyone to see....
Spirit...I use 4 different dilutions...
1. 5% ink 90% water
2. 20% ink 80%water
3. 30% ink 70% water
4. 50/50 ink and water
and then a cup of 100% clear water for washing.
TAZ,
thank you very much for this insight...
i am taking this formula will actually give me 4 different shades
by the amount of ink versus the amount of water...
again thank you...this will save me 100's
just for the simple convenience factor i never considered mixing my own...
thanks to the board you guys have shown me the way...
again thank you very much...

my mix is alot diffrent i use use distiled water and Glycerin and oe one brand ink diffrent % of ink for light or darkness but allways half and half of water and glycerin.now i do all the black and gray in the shop and they turn out great
I just got out of collins bay penitentiary and I started tattooing at the begining of my sentence 13 years ago. the question I have is what is the best way to mix the ink and what does green soap have to do with the graywash mixture. I can pull any shade out of black but would like to know how to mix the gray wash with green soup and water? I would reaspectfully like the help on this issue thank you
I'll answer your question since it seems no one else did. First, there is no set ratio for making greywash with green soap, but this is the process for finding out what you want to know. Use pre-diluted green soap for mixing, not full strength. They recommend an 8:1 dilution with distilled water, I prefer 7:1. The easiest way is to have it in a spray or squeeze bottle. Now set up as many caps half full of black ink as you want different shades of grey. Start out by putting one drop in the first cap, two in the second, three in the third, etc. and mix them. Now you can experiment with these shades untill you find what you want. Start with the lighter shades since you can always go darker. You will eventually find the right mixture for you, and that is what it's all about. I have no problem with witch hazel except for the smell, but I don't recommend water. After all, how many water based tattoo inks have you seen?
