Hawaiian lettering?

21 messages · last activity 11/2/2009

Hi there, We're searching the Internet for native hawaiian/polynesian lettering for an armband tattoo. I can't seem to find it anywhere - only hawaiian fonts which is not what I am seeking. So I was wondering if it even exists and where I may be able to find it? If anyone knows, you would be a great help! Thanks!
I'm not sure what you mean. There was no written language in Hawaiian, so therefore no Hawaiian lettering.
The closest thing you will find will be Samoan...Hawaiians are a mixture of polynesian ,samoan and oriental breeds and like the post above said, they have no "lettering of their own...TAz
Who is this yahoo that says that Hawaiians are a mixture. I wish you would say that to a Hawaiian and see how fast you get pounded you fruitcake. Hawaiian lettering is called Hawaiian heritage lettering, it is derived from old english because the monarchs that fancied victorian life for hawaiians aodpted this type of lettering when the missionaries came to Hawaii. I wish you people would learn what it is your talking about before you run off at the suck about something you don't know. Better yet, I dare you to go up to a Samoan and tell him he's a Hawaiian, bye bye for you.
Go to Alohaworld.com and look up the section on tatoos or tataus. This can get you started. In Hawaiian you be careful what you put on your body, because you become servant to that. It's called "mana".

Personally I think you are full of shit and even if I were wrong ,Which I most certainly am NOT...There is absolutely no reason for you to be a fuckin punk PERIOD!!!!
These poor fucking people that post here for advice ,and dam near every thread gets co-opted for personal discussions or arguments.........jeez.
(i don't think he said all Samoans are hawaiians....just that some hawaiians come from the Samoans...) (sorry bout any misspellings) Ducky
Well ya know what?...I try not to argue but when I am called names and disrespected I damn sure WILL argue...This is an adult forum and if its a little too rough for ya maybe you should find another I NEVER say a harsh word until I am disrespected I do my best to be as polite as possible but there is a point that should not be crossed. So if the arguments bother ya ...well maybe you should try www.winniethepoo.com....And NO i did not call any samoan a hawaiian..or vice versa....there is NO official Hawaiian alphabet...the alphabet this dude was spouting off about was a bastardized version of engravers olde plate and was NEVER officially adopted by the Hawaiian people...DO YOUR HOMEWORK!...Are you tryin to say that the Hawaiian race is a pure race? How wonderfully ignorant!Saying they have their own official alphabet is like saying we here in the states speak American...no.. we speak ENGLISH!!!! Now the island people DID have many SYMBOLS used for religious and tribal purposes but its not an alphabet!!!..JEEESSSHH!!!
And by the way, those poor people who come here for advice usually get what they ask for ...I recieve many e-mails every day thanking me for my posts and that makes even putting up with smart ass prongs worth it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmm... you knew i was refering to you . And i wasnt just talking about this post ...you do it alot.
As I said ...don't like it ..don't read it!...TAz
What are you...The Forum Police?
the forum secret service.............................and see were are doing it right now.
Oh thats fuuunnnnyyy!!!!
Taz... I've been sifting through this forum, I have read your responses, and I think that you are very knowledgable, and I respect you. I think you are a funny guy, a nice guy (for the most part), and intelligent. You're right. No person should disrespect another or act like a "punk", especially if your intentions are good. But I am Hawaiian. And though you are correct that we are decendents from Samoa, Tahiti, etc., We are our own race of people. My ancestors migrated to Hawaii and for thousands of years existed within the island chain. The same could be said for the Tongans, Fijians, and the Maori. That they too were of mixed decent. But its like all other races of people had migrated at one point to where they eventually settled to become, Japanese, Spanish, French, Indian, or whatever. The point is, is that we have a history, and a blood line of generations that define us as a people. And although I'm not preaching or praising any type of superiority of my race (cause there is no such superior race of course, and that would be plain ignorant), I am very proud of my heritage and my culture. There is a history of life within our culture like any other culture. From moments of great pride and accomplishment to an equal amount of loss, tragedy, and pain. Again, I am posting this as to state the opinion of myself, and I believe many others of my ethnic decent which I believe feel the same way. Its by no disrespect. Just sharing my knowlegde. Much like you've been so kind to share yours. Mahalos.
Mahalo Hoa Paio!!...Great to hear from ya! I appreciate your pride in your heritage and certainly did not mean to malign your race in any way...just tryin to set things straight...I tattooed for a bit on Mauii and LOVED the Hawaiian people.and you just backed me up on everything I said....What race is a pure race? ...None that I know of! And when it comes down to it...who really cares ?...every race in the world has a heritage to be proud of... the Hawaiians more than most!! I had no bad words for any of the polynesian/oriental races and cannot think of any reason why I ever would have...in general the people of Hawaii are generous ,friendly and magnificently hospitable people and one day I plan to retire to Mauii and play with the dolphins at night on LaHaina Beach at Whalers Cove....the most awesome place I have ever laid eyes on! So thanks so much for your affirmation of what I was tryin to say in my humble senile way! Mahalo!...TAz
I was doing a search on tattoos and came to this forum and being reading this interesting "discussion" of the Hawaiians and I just want to say that I am of Hawaiian descent and a very proud member of poly clan. I can trace my bloodline as far back as to KIng Kamahameha (how many polys can do this?) and it's in the written word (on paper, brahdas!). I appreciate this conversation about the Hawaiian and please be respectful of each other and show 'Aloha" to each other more so than who is right or wrong. Noone wins when you fight... really. Aloha and Mahalo. Kealoha
Hawaiians love to fight. So ur obviously not a true Hawaiian brahda
Hey, What are you trying to do? Like a trible tattoo or something hawaiian? I'm a little lost but if you go on myspace and look for pacific rootz tattoo they have a lot of local things like that... maybe you can get ideas from them..
