Hi,
my name is David, I'm from Italy (Milan), so please, forgive my english.
I've found your website during my reserch on the maori culture, that I really love and respect. I'm going to make a moko on my left forearm (I've got three other tattoes), I know what I want, but I don't know how to draw it with the maori simbology.
It's very hard to find something on the web - and I don't want to copy someone else's tattoo, because it must be mine - but I want to express myself and my spirit.
Unfortunately I can't come to Australia for this tattoo... :p but I'm sure that you are the right kind of person I'm looking for. So, can you help me in any way? Maybe with some draws/simbols or with a website to find them?
I love the sea, my element is the water and my zodiac is cancer, these are the bases on which I'd like to construct my tattoo. I'm 31 years old, I was born in july the 4th (maybe this could help).
I love animals, I'm married, I'm a web designer, I play sports, I write poetry and I'm a solitary one.
I know this is not so much for the korero, but it's a begin...
Hope to hear from you. Thanks a lot and sorry if I bothered you.
David.

Hi David. I've just seen your post regarding a ta moko or kirituhi. I was just wondering if you had any success in locating a designer or any designs to give you ideas? Like you, I'm struggling to find designs/designers so any help you could give me would be great. If you do have any info my emails [email removed]
Many Thanks, Alex
Hi guys, if you are looking for some really nice well done Maori styled tattoos not moko but (kirituhi) Maori inspired tattoo art then check out my website: www.mekemarkings.zoomshare.com I have previously produced kirituhi and moko for various people and am happy to help those who need a hand finding out more on the style and a design for them self.
maybe check out www.robdeut.com........
Just to let anyone know who is interested in getting a Maori Tattoo it is deeply insulting to the Maori culture if you do. The tattoos that they have are part of their culture, it tells the story of their family history. To copy one is the equivilant of identity theft.
Be considerate of other cultures, don't take from them just cause you think its cool! Show some respect. Look into Kirituhi Tattoos(means Skin Art). This is very similar but has no insult attached to it.
Just something to consider...

i have been told my a maori tattoo artist that it is OK for a non-maori to have a KIRITUHI / CONTEMPORARY maori inspired designs. but perhaps NOT ta MOKO as this traditional version will have ancestral symbolism in them.
also, perhaos it is best to go to a maori tattoo artist as he/she will know the tradition so that you do not end up with someone else's ancestral design on your arm.
these sites are good:

www.mokoira.com
From returning back to the uk after a life experience in Oz + New Zealand some years ago i have decided i would like a small tattoo on the back on my neck/top of my back of a Kirituhi design. I have researched and respect the Maori culture and not wanting to copy any designs. I am looking for a tattoo studio or artist in the uk that specializes in this type of tattoo art, does anybody have any info?????
Thanks!
ciao,
mi chiedevo se avevi trovato alcuna informazione per i MAORI design, ne vorrei fare uno ma sto letteralmente impazzendo!!

inia taylor (moko art) is good, also tony unwin (kirituhi) is also world class, hes actually based in nottingham uk, kirituhi is actually translated as maori art/skin art, but ta moko is for maori only
