No offense, but this drawing looks like drawn by a 10 yr old kid... If you can't visualize correctly in drawing, there's no way you can tattoo this.... Sorry Bro, just being honest.
Art school man! Classes, mentors, drawing partners. find some art sites, I bet there are a few that talk about the technical aspects of drawing...
Check this site out....... http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/farp/art.html
Educate yourself if you can't take the time out of our life to attend artschool , if you've got the time to read these posts you've got the time to research some color theory , some distance and proportion, lighting techniques and the effects that different lights have on different colors and textures. Take your time. Practice a shitload. If you're reading something and it says here try this, and it seems stupid , try it anyhow. might learn something cool, or an easier way to achieve a desired outcome. Trace pictures of tattoos. Hell trace photos. Trace everything, redraw the things you're not happy with. Find some inspiration, look to better artists, especially tattoo artists if that's the look you're going for. Read , practice, read, draw , try different mediums. draw some more. Buy some books or check them out at the library. Learn to draw animals, check some refference photos , anatomy refference pictures would help with your skulls alot PROMISE. Botany books would help with your roses and their stems. Black and white photo study would help you immensely with your shadow techniques, or lack there of. Piece together pictures using things youv'e traced I find this not only fun but good practice for later when you're trying to geta whole piece to come together. Understand your light source. Read read read read read eventually you'll retain some great information and be able to use it to your benefit.
Don't be discouraged because FLipTat says you can't do soemthing. At this point Flip's correct you can't, that doesn't mean you'll never be able too. Use that shit for drive and determination. Don't let someone else's opinion determine what you want to be. Find a way. Everyone I mean everyone can learn to draw and draw well. It's all about the effort you put into it.
Sorry I rambled , don't try to make it look like a tattoo , Try to make it look like two skulls with a bunch of roses and vines. Try and make it look like anatomically correct skulls and roses. Then try to make it look like it's lit/colored correctly. Then step back and start over because you probably won't be happy with what you have, but you'll have learned alot. make a new one.
Princess - Mike seems a lil arrogant "Ok I can draw this stuff" so a lil shit would make him think about his drawings correct? Plus, it's always nicer to help a humble person...
Mike, I have to agree with both Princess Jer AND Fliptat, no, you CAN"T draw this shit, not yet, but yes you CAN learn if you have the drive and determination.
Its a LONG road to be a good artist and its all up to YOU!!
Arrogant or unaware, for all I know he's 12years old, or for that matter 42 with an undeserved ego the size of texas. I just prefer to err on the side of caution I suppose. But you are 100% correct in the humble statement.
The way I see it is when people who cant draw for shit talk about tattooing, nature doesnt want it so there will be harsh responses. Its all prep for the real world cause when you do shit tattoos on people, instead of a few harsh words over the internet you are faced with a wicked pissed off client... a few harsh words on the internet arent nothing compared to whats coming to folks who put crappy art on skin.
I'd rather people learn before it gets too far, and its simple. If you cant draw like a mutha fucka then you have no right putting art on skin. Theres no excuse anymore for putting out inferior work. The talented artists arent closed minded and not sharing, they only share with amazing artists who show a dedication to the art, typically by getting amazing tattoos. In short, tattooing wants more amazing tattoo artists, but not necessarily just more ok artists. You want to be a tattoo artist? Simple, be an amazing artist and get amazing tattoos. Be patient, but work hard for your goals and endure what you have to too get there.
That said, I didnt read where the poster was talking about tattooing, just looking for tips. no harm from that, should be encouraged. I'd say keep drawing and drawing and art classes and draw with friends. use reference and listen to the advice given (listen to it all and take the positive. the negative are lessons, though, think about everything.). One recurring theme in successful tattoo artists is everytime someone said they couldnt, they would work twice as hard to do it. The best revenge is success. If you think about it success is *almost* bad karma free revenge. Though, I supposed by its nature even "positive" revenge is still revenge and you gotta pay up for it somewhere. But its a lot less than being a jerk back! Thats the humility lesson I guess. To be able to face really harsh words calmly and professionally. When/if you realize we are *all* just people no matter how long your waiting list is and treat everyone with the same respect, your career will skyrocket.
but don`t forget there are still some tattooist out there that can`t draw but put on one nice looking tattoo working from flash only.
Dang Gabe said a bad word. But you're right Gabe, take all the karma phylosophy out , and bottom line dude wasn't asking to tattoo skin. Just some pointers on how to make his existing drawing look like tattoos. That questions's kinda hard to answer. I suggest a better attempt at realism not likeism, ( is likeism a word? , It should be). The picture in question , looks alot like what it's supposed to be, but it could look alot better , and as Gabe's said It SHOULD look a lot better if you've got any intentions of becoming a tattoo artist.
