help with tribal settings with 7 mag.. *apprentice

hello.. i am a beggining tattoo artist and i have done a lot of linework and color but not very much shading.. my question is.. i am doing a large tribal peice even tho i think its stupid looking.. i chose a 7 mag to do the fill in but it doesnt seem to be leaving ink in the skin.. or maybe not puncturing at all.. i am stretching the skin enouph.. but im not sure about the machine settings.. when i line i run my machine at about 9 volts and the needle moves about the thickness of a dime.. i was told for mags to make it move about the thickness of a nickle and to have the power just as high .. but i need profesional advice.. thankyou

do you have a color gun,which it don't matter any gun well work but what ever setting you had with your rounds like a 14r would be the same as a mag just slow down and work it like a paint brush,get into a rythem.oval instead of circular
