how in the does a guy get a job with no portfolio??

how in the world does a guy get a job in a shop with no portfolio? this is ridiculous to me!!! but i have been in a few shops were a ( i cant even call them an artist) this guy doesn't have a portfolio.. you ask to see it and thay make up excuses like its at home or i haven't updated it so it's not here or i have the ink on my pants to show i tattoo... how in the f*#ck? what do ya'll thank?

i'd think he was really the 'bitch boy' in the shop and not the artist. i don't know about you, but i value my skin way too much to let a hack muff it up. i've already learned that lesson once! ;)

I'm not implying anything about the guy, because everybody's gotta start somewhere. But I just want him to ask himself if he would let any of the people who have said they don't have portfolios tattoo him, and then I think he'll understand why he can't just go into a shop and start tattooing away without apprenticing first. i still can't figure it out but it seems to be common practice at a few shops in the dallas area? i just don't get it im from memphis tn. and to work in a shop there you have to have a artist license, bloodborne pathogens certificate, and a PORTFOLIO!! what's up in dallas?

But see thats what I have been saying...there are "shops"here in missouri that if these people HAD portfolios I can't see why anyone (who was not legally blind) let these fucks tattoo them...I am sorry but the geneal public just ain't got a clue!!

It's been my experience that anyone claiming to be a Tattoo Artist who does not have a portfolio for perspective clients to look at is incompetent and wouldn't dare show what his/her work actually looks like and/or someone with so little experience they don't have any to show. There ain't no way in hell I'd ever employ or even seriously TALK to any 'artist' who could not produce a portfolio, and I'll bet THAT is also the view of any SERIOUS Studio owner who knows/cares about Tattooing. Personally, I think anyone who allows someone to work on 'em without having first seen their work deserves whatever the end up with. When I get people in that tell me they went someplace that couldn't show them any photos of their work, I tell them it's probably 'cuz their works so bad they don't even want to photograph it. What COMPETENT Tattoo Artist DOESN'T have photos of actual work they've done? If any Studio/Artist does not have photos of their work on display I'd seriously advise going elsewhere that does. By the way, it sounds like this is becoming more and more common, I know we got some around here, the poster mentions Dallas and Taz states he's got 'em around him- obviously these fucks are 'everywhere' and, as Taz points out, the general public ain't got a damn clue, most of 'em just decide to get a tattoo and go to the closest (or cheapest) and don't seem to have a clue as to why I ream 'em for their stupidity and think I'M the asshole when I tell 'em I won't touch it because if it weren't for dumbasses who let people like that 'tattoo' them, the would not have any business. Sure, I do make exceptions (occasionally and depeding on the circumstances) but I'm fixing less and less of that shit and, as I stated in another post, NEVER until at least 6 months later- I'm not about to get bum rapped for someone elses lack of sterilization, etc. Fortunately, I own my own Studio so I can do that...Do
