How long do tattoos tend to take?

Is there any basic idea of duration? So many square inches, per hour maybe? I know people who have large projects go for multiple sittings. When is the second sitting, can it be the next day or would the first wave have to completely heal?

Depends on the design, the artist, the client...too many variables. The ideal way to know the time required would be to pick out an artist, establish what you would like to have done, then ask the artist how long it will take. The real question is, having not bothered to do the above, of what utility would the average duration of a tattoo procedure be? Are you doing a school project? Are you trying to figure out how much a tattoo costs per square inch if an artist charges $100, $150, $200/hr? When you are serious about actually getting a tattoo the precise answer will reveal itself to you

My ass you can!! Its never a wise idea to get tattooed the day after in the same place. Yeah, its been done but its 5 times worse painwise than when you got it the day before. And if you were to mess with that same area over again the next day you could potentially tear a persons skin to hamburger meat. Its already had about as much as it can take for that sitting. Give it a few weeks

Every artist works at his own speed some faster some slower every tatoo has variables that affect how long it will take: size , color, detail, area of the body ETC So how long does it take?,,,,,TIL ITS DONE!!!!!.....TAz

sorry Mario, I'm not a tattoo artist(yet). I've just heard pros talk about doing big tattoos over 2 days, like outlining one day and color the next...I never said it was ideal. If this is not/cannot be done at all I stand corrected.

if its a big job and needs to be done in sessions I will line it then wait for at least a week if possible or until the lining is pretty well healed and there are of course a lot of variables there too: the clients body metabolism, how well they care for it etc that affect the healing time. Its never a great idea to tattoo in the same spot in consecutive days'...it has been done and done successfully but in general that kind of thing is detrimental to the tattoo This method also gives you a chance to see if they are gonna take care of the work or not...so you can yell foul things at em and threaten to use battery acid in yer green soap bottle!!

No harm done man! Like ol' Taz said, it can be pretty harsh for your tattoo. Given, i just yesterday saw a guy at a convention getting tattooed on his second day. To hell with that mess!!
