Hy there!
I am trying to find out how much Paul Booth takes for a tattoo. I want my upper arm covered with a portrait...but HOW MUCH? No one at the studio is willing to tell "you have to check when you have the appointment"-but what if I have an appointment and it`s too much?? Please help me, thank you!
How much charges Paul Booth?

Unfortunately, the people at his studio were right, until he sees the image you want, and the size of the image (including the size of your arm,) there is no way on earth to give you a price. Go for the consultation, he will tell you then, and if it is too much for you, tell him you'd simply like some time to think about whether or not this tattoo is something you'd like to put that much money into. Just a bit of advise though, this is not always true, but usually is, if he is able to ask higher than most other tattoo artists, and still get the clentel, there's probably a pretty good reason.... meaning, it's probably worth it. :)
250 hour charges paul booth, I think. I dont know fer sure. But it's alot if he does like slipknot and stuff. those guyses are rich, so they probly spend a lot on pauls stuffs.
You cant really ask people i=on the internet how much he charges... You really gotta get that answer from Paul.
If you have to ask how much than Paul is not the man for you what you should do is make an app when he's done with you, you ask him how much do I O U. P.S he's not cheap he's one of the best in the world and your going to pay for a work or art.
whos paul booth? anyone share some history? hes world famous? whats his specialty?
nvm dont answer that question, 5min of research answered it, this guy is famous

Paul Booth is one of my favorite artists I have few people I truly do respect and he is one of them, when Paul works on your body you know that it is going to be a traffic stoping art people will ask you where did you get that tattoo so me advice to you my friend make an appointment with Mr. Booth and save money so that way you can pay him what he ask you and about tipping him you will see it will hurt you much less that the tattoo you will get from him he is very nice person I met him before he went over seas to the convention and trust me he is reasonable with his prices since his work is a work of art in all sense onf the word. More power to you it shows you have truly done your home work when you made your mind to get a work done by him good luck on getting an appointment by him I know he is always booked and as soon as you get a chance to get in with him don't cancel unless you are going to be dead and then still call the reapper to cancel the appointment with him first. LOL just a little joke good luck with your work is not like you are going to need it he is that damn good.
like paul booth says himself "if moneys an issue your in the wrong studio"
He's gonna decide what he wants to put on you.... That's how he works... He also puts a minumum of 3 hrs per piece.
I don't see why asking for an hourly rate over the internet is wrong...
I don't know about Paul but Deano Cook Charges $175 an hour 'cause I asked him :)
For Deano's Talent, that's a bargain.... Hey Fallen, can I paint may machine? What kind of paint can I use?

If the person was asking Paul Booth directly on the net, that's not so wrong, but asking a general population that may (or may not) know the rate would only promote false information being passed around, which is indeed wrong.

I really find it hard to believe that paul booth could charge 250 an hour. granted he's famous, and has a 2-3 yr (?) waiting list, but that is just an inordinate amount of money. i'd rather have mike devries for a portrait. and if paul booth did a portrait i'm sure he'd hide nuns sodomizing jesus in the background or some other thing that would make people who listen to false metal be all "HORNZ 666" or some other garbage. Finally, if you'd be willing to come all the way from Switzerland, I can't understand how a budget would be an issue. You must already be willing to shell out for the flight.
Last i heard his whole staff walked out on him....
Thats funny, just talked to a couple of the guys at Last Rites yesterday and all seemed well and happy....don't listen to rumors!!
And BOB...Paul would probably not only refuse to tattoo you he would probably hurt your feelings HEE HEE!
Its not a rumor! Tim, Dan, Ethan and Jeramiah have all left Last Rites........Its posted on all thier myspaces....Ethan works at Kings Ave in New York now. Dans by private appt. Unless its this great big joke?
I dont think its a joke or a rumor. At least from what Ive read... Taz, who did you talk to?
Seems to be true
" Moving on.
I am no longer working at Last Rites Tattoo Theatre in NYC. I am grateful to Paul Booth for the opportunity to be a part of such a great crew at such a unique shop, but it is time for me to move on. I will always have a special place in my heart for Last Rites, and nothing but respect and admiration for everyone I've worked with during my five years there. I still consider Last Rites my family, and that will never change.
Anyone wishing to contact me for work, continuing or otherwise, can contact me through MySpace for the time being. Thanks.

"As some of you know I no longer work at Last Rites. I was a hard decision to leave but I felt that it was time to go.
I want to thank Paul Booth for the opportunity to be a part of the best crew I ever worked with and to ride the Last Rites juggernaut, it was a wild ride and full of great memories.
Thanks Paul for giving me a chance to shed my old skin and become me again. The hardest challenge I ever did was leave California and my old life. It was the scariest endeavor I have ever undertaken to take a chance and change. Because of you I can do anything now, I have no fear, thank you for everything.

"I will no longer be working at Last Rites Tattoo Theatre. I am very grateful to Paul Booth for giving me many opportunities over the last 4 and 1/2 years and to be a part of such a great crew. It has been alot of fun and a wild ride to take part in his vision, but the time has come to follow my own way.
I leave with nothing but respect for Last Rites and all the monks and minions and shop supporters as well. My time there gave me the most productive growth as an artist and a person and i will be eternally grateful for that.
I will continue to work in the same dark style and subject matter and continue to push my work creatively in a way that i have come to expect from myself and that my clients expect from me.
Again, my deepest gratitude to everyone i have worked with, worked on and come to be friends with during my experience at Last Rites.
I am continuing to work in NYC and anyone wishing to contact me for work, continuing or otherwise, can contact me through MySpace for the time being." by Dan
So it seems that only Art has stayed.
Does this mean there will be new crew, maybe more guests, or is Paul moving to another venues for the time being? How did hes operation go that he had, I think it was last year? Or is that a on no topic. aka too personal. I hope its not because of the operation.
Art Styles was a fake artist.. they made him up...I guess the cat can out of the bag since there is noone to keep the secret anymore....
Do tell us more! :)
Wow!!! I am amazed!!
I spoke briefly with Liorcifer a short time ago and nothing was mentioned but then again they certainly don't know me well enough to give me info!!
Oh well life is change!!
I would like to know what happened....I am a nosy bastard!!
I talked to Ethan a few days before it all went down publicly because I was to get tattooed by him at the end of the month. I was told all the artists moved on to new venues but had no ill feelings towards Paul.
As of this time Paul is on some R&R and ten they will be adding an entire new crew at Last Rites but they say all the new artists will honor deposits from the other artists.
Word is that when the time is right everything will be told and I would think it will be on a need to know basis.
Currently the Last Rites site is under renovations and the only crew left there is Adam who is working on the site.
Hope that helps a bit and if I hear more I will pass it along.
As for what Paul charges the question you need to ask yourself is DOES IT REALLY MATTER ???
most of the artists at LR were getting $200 an hour , I was going to sit with Ethan for 7-9 hours on June 26th but not sure what I will do now.

Thank you for the info DarkSoul70 :)
I guess everything happens for a reason. I plan on and will continue to seek work from Liorcifer. I would estimate that I have sat for about 15 to 18 hours with him already. His work is amazing. As for Dan his work is also amazing.
I can’t speak for Paul…ie on his price or his waiting list. I am sure no matter how much the price or how long the wait its well worth it. I can say from experience that the price is rather fair. I know that sounds strange when you start talking about the costly hourly rate. Keep in mind the rate is for the time they are actually tattooing. They don’t charge you for setup or cleanup or breaks. Also in the past they have even told me that they owe me time because I have overpaid. I am not sure how the new Last Rites will work and I am also pretty sure that I may never find out. I have decided that I probably with continue to work with Lior because my past experience with his work.
I think this split will only result in more exposure for the other X-Last Rites artists, which is a good thing. I think any of them can stand alone without Last Rites…they are just that good. I am sure it will be only a matter of time before everything is copasetic once again.

Hey, quick question. I know all of the former Last Rites guys (Dan, Tim, Ethan, Lior, Jeremiah) do outstanding work. I was just wondering, for anyone who has seen enough of each artists' work, can you tell if each guy has a "specialty", or what each guy's preference is as far as styling, themes, etc?
As others mentioned above, the artists have left Last Rites and Paul will reopen with a new crew in about a month. I reported on it on Friday for Needled even though they left a few weeks ago:

I think we should resepct their personal privacy and not speculate over why's and what happened as it should not affect the tattoo work that people will be getting.

In response to what others have said about price, I'm pretty shocked that anyone would think $175/hour or even $250 an hour--for some of the best work in the world--will be too much.
How much are the computers you're typing away on that will be obsolete in a few years as opposed to personal artwork for a lifetime?
As the saying goes, "Good tattoos aint cheap and cheap tattoos aint good."
NEEDLED.....
YOU BETCHA!!!!
Love the site too...I visit every day! Keep up the good work!
The last rites guys all charged $175+, so Paul would almost certainly charge more. If you are looking for portrait work, and are concerned about price, you should check out Shane O'Neil at August Moon in DE or Paul Acker at Deep Six in Philly (www.fixedarmy.com). Both do excellent portrait work and Shane is probably one of the best bargains on the planet for the quality of work he does - although it has been awhile since he has worked on me and his price could have increased.
BTW
I myself newer really have considered Paul to be a portrait artists. If I think of him, I think of custom designs. Where does this portrait crazy come from? Of course he is good at them, but I wouldnt say he specializes in them.
I meant to say portrait craze. Or how ever you spell that :)
Prolly from his "first" portrait. That insane wood carved effect.Nuts!
Ethan is working in Kings Avenue Tattoo
Paul Booth is fat pompous. From what I hear, his guys walked out on him because he's a drug abusing phony who treated them like dirt and they got sick of his corny gimmicks and rock star attitude.
Anyway, I believe he charges $300 for the regular folk. You're not going to get in his chair unless he deems you worthy.
Anyway, I heard through the grapevine that he and Fred Durst are partners now.....
lolz.
So 'dark'.
For whatever reason they split, I consider it there business not mine.
Fat and pompous? Maybe, but he is still st the top of the heap.
He would probably be amused at your comments!
He's definitely top notch, one of the best. He was a major inspiration for me when I first started tattooing. But you know what? So are many, many others. There names aren't as well known though, mostly due to the fact they don't sink so low as to ride the coat tails of bad rock bands and use haunted house gimmickry to gain notoriety.
Anyhoo, he's pretty much washed-up now. His work is stagnant, people laugh at his gimmicks and all the people he treated like shit and acted like a rockstar too are all laughing at him right now.
Including myself. I met the dude the last time he was at the Richmond convention and he walked right passed me when I extended my hand to shake his. I'm not the only person he's been a dickhead too like that either.

I would think that the so called gimmicks are like how he is. He is having fun and giving tattoo world something that has been forgotten. Like the old days with circus freaks and everything. His just continuing the legacy and making it accessable to a younger generation.
And about him being overweight. To my knowledge he had the Gastric bypass surgery, so I would think is thinner and feeling better. I hope so. Its not that easy being on the spotlight and having all this pressure on you. I dont know him, but maybe eating was his way to try to relieve the stress. I did it for years too.
I dont know the situation, but maybe he didnt shake your hand because every other person wanted to do the same thing. It doesnt mean that just because your celebrity, that they owe you something. They dont KNOW you. Just because if you see them on TV and magazines doesnt mean that they have to be little singing and dancing monkeys. There people too, just like you and me.
Just because the media builds a myth around them, that doesnt make them a some kind of a deity who is super human. Its good that we remember that.
Well if any of the artist need a new home, We are in need of more artist in Northern CA.
