How much longer?

6 messages · last activity 5/17/2006

Hey any help would be nice, I put down a deposit for a full sleeve about two months ago and I have gotten very little feed back from the artist. My question is how long should it take to get a sketch for me to see.......something anything to comment on? I gave him an entire book with the style, drawings and colors I want. Thanks Molly
Hey Molly, welcome to the forum It all depends on how busy the artist is, if (s)he is 6 months booked out, then you could be waiting a bit longer; did you discuss with the artist when you would hear back from them? That could make a big difference as well. If an artist is extremely busy, it's not uncommon for them to put some things on a back burner (not saying that your sleeve is less important, but if they're under the impression that you're not in a hurry, then it may wait). Definitely keep in touch with your artist, and if in the longrun you feel that you're getting the runaround, politely ask for your book and deposit back and find a reputable artist who is capable of doing the job. Check the artist list here, I'm sure you can find someone that is more than capable of the sleeve.
Thanks......I just need some paitence....it took me about a year to find someone I liked so I hate to back out now....and I hate to be harrasser (is that a word?) This site is pretty cool, I have been reading it for about a month or so it is full of usefull info!
You won't be considered to be "harrassing" your artist if you give him a quick call to see how your design is coming....He/ she shouldn't mind a bit...your concern would have been allayed if you decided on a time frame BEFORE you made your deposit!...TAz
Earlier this year, after checking out about 25 shops, I decided on an artist. I had a consultation with him, asked him how backlogged he was (he said he was caught up), discussed the design, did some mapping out of the area to be tattooed and gave him a deposit. He told me to give him a call in about a week. In the mean time, I had decided to change or add some elements to the design, and wanted to give him a heads up before he spent time working on something that would need to be altered. I went into the shop to talk to him, but understandably he was busy working on a client, and said to leave my phone number and he would call me back. Never did. I tried leaving my number for a call back several more times, but never heard from him. I waited about a month, and checked back with him to see if he had done anything, and he hadn't. He told me to call him later that week, but by then I was so fed up, that I decided to forfeit the deposit, and go with another artist who has got a great vibe, and enthusiasm for what he's doing. I haven't regretted it for a second, and with a large ongoing piece, it was money well spent to avoid bigger problems later on down the line. Go with your instincts. Good Luck TCE At that po
Thanks for all the advice :)
