ugh, i just watched half ( it helps me to fall asleep) but i noticed nunez was telling this woman who was thinking of getting lettering on her forearm " uh, i don't know, you're not heavily tattooed"...what's the difference and do would most artists make recommendations like this? see, i have no tattoos right now but i am getting work around december, still trying to find time to draw up my designs...i was thinking of something on the inside of my arm, or forearm as well...i don't have lots of options where i live if some artist decides i don't have enough tattoos. is it the pain thing? i have NO problem with pain, really. or is nunez just doing the ami thing where it sometimes seems they aren't really that amped on the client's request. thankie in advancie.

I have seen a few artists talk younger people out of placements that THEY consider might "hurt" them in the future... IE- hands, necks and other highly visible areas. ESP if they have no other tattoos. (When someone is HEAVILY tattooed, they don't seem to care where they get it... heck, I could walk in, and they would do my forehead without trying to change my mind... (but, my hubby would shoot me)... Perhaps this was also the reason on the show? However, I have never seen this program, hard to guess... When it comes down to it, most artists will do what the client WANTS.... but try to be helpful and suggest alternatatives... which seems like a good idea to me-I would love someone looking out for my best interest:)
all of the appointments i have scheduled, and will schedule in the future are for sleeves that end approximately 2 inches from the elbow. then i'll probably get a chest piece and the tops of my feet done. if you want to work an asshole pencil pusher job like i do, you cannot be heavily tattooed, or at least visibly tattooed. even then, i would be wary of things like changing in the company gym locker room, etc.
huh?
i know what you are talking about bob. it's kinda irritating that most of the places i would like to get a tattoo, i have to think about THAT, if it comes to it. where i live the rent's fucking ridiculous and we have the top inflation in the nation.i have a kid to think about. so i have to watch my placement. i told myself if i ever made it as a tattoo artist i would commemorate by getting a tattoo on my neck. but my other half said that would be "unattractive". haha. well, forearm, nothing a longsleeve shirt can't cover.
but i sped through the gym locker room thing--why would you need to change in locker room in a pencil pushing job? lol
Screw that man. i love and am completely proud of my tattoos. fuck any job that wouldnt have me simply because of some body art, its simply not worth it to me. i work at a restaurant but they dont at all mind how tattooed because A. theyre a family owned place B. Care more about the fact that i work harder than anyone else there, than my tattoos.
because huge multinational whore corporations have their own private gyms for the employees to go to in the office. and trust me, if the boss sees you all covered as opposed to timmy the fratboy with his delta sigma asshole tattoo, he'll go further than you with his career.
im just an apprentice, but when people come into our shop, and are like i want my neck done, and its my first tattoo, we usually just say, are you sure you might want to think about it. cause it seems alot of people just get this idea with no thought and are like im doing it. i use to not want to get to visible of tattoosthat i couldnt cover up with sleeves. but yesterday i got my knuckles done. persoanlly though if someone came in with no tattoos i would ask them again if they wanted it in a visible area like the neck or hands. apposed to a person heavily tattood i wouldnt ask them..
I think its responsible for the artist to only tattoo someone when they are 100% comfortable that their client has thought about the very heavy decesion to get tattooed, more so in visible places. As a matter of policy we dont tattoo hands, necks, etc but if someone who has thier thinking cap on wants something visible then we will do it. We dont need the bad karma of tattooing something on someone who we know will regret it later on, but enjoy when highly visible tattoos are well thought out and done. When good people have good highly visible tattoos that helps bring up the culture.
Bob I'm with you (unfortunately). I work at a place that would 'frown' upon tattoo's that would make customers think differently of them. Problem is I make good money! So that tattoo's can go in places I can hide them for now.. someday I'll get one on my forearm, but not until I can think of something really really nice..

they probably did it to boost the drama level, which boosts ratings. same reason they had kat turn away the color koi tattoo, which means they casted that guy as an actor to have him come in to be turned away.
and what about the lemur that girl brought in and had on the table with her while she was getting work?
Yea, nothing like LEMUR feces to spruce up a tattoo studio.
There was another episode where someone let live mice onto the shop floor while a client was being tattooed. WTF?
I also think some of the artists don't really listen to what the clients want (artistically speaking) and do their own thing instead; the clients are put on the spot due to cameras etc.. that they usually don't say anything. IMO, a terrible environment to be tattooed in.
i agree. the lemur was fucking stupid. what if another client was allergic, let's not even talk about the fece factor. are they that fucking desperate for ratings? not to mention the girl with the grandpa memorial tattoo- i think she said anuerism so many times i was gonna get one.ami and chris are idiots, i think with their customer service skills they wouldn't go far making sandwiches in a Subway line...the producers seem to think that the audience is so stupid, and well, what's the main age bracket for an 'average' TLC viewer? i think THAT'S who they think are the stupid ones, but i think the names of the artists has gotten the REAL tattoo world's attention and it's quite embarrassing. but i will still always be a kat and chris admirer....i can't believe 13 more episodes...wow
Why would someone get inked at Miami Ink, unless they are a tv whore... er, unless they are unduly impressed by television?
Some of the work is good, but not, in my opinion, all that. And who would want to wear a permanent reminder of such disagreeable people? Yuck! I've met quite a few tattoo artists with attitude problems, but given the fact that they're not on tv, and depend on good work and good customer service to pay their rent, you can browbeat them right back and get what you want.
Maybe one day there will be a "where are they now" Miami Ink, showing all the cover-ups burying their work, or folks who have chewed their limbs off rather than remember those surly prima donnas.
PS - some of you chaps have serious spelling issues.
PPS - do i get less letters to type when my posts are more lame?
