is bacetracin ok for aftercare? I got short-sleeved yesterday and have been using bacetracin. What is your opinon of using this?
My opinion is to use whatever your artist told you to use and follow the aftercare exactly.
well my artist is "sponsored" by Tattoo Goo so of course he reccomended that but I'm just wondering if using bacetracin/triple anitbiotic is iverkill? I have been tatted twice before when i was much younger and think now, that i'm older, i'm just way over thinking my wound care and simply paranoid. My two tats from 14 years ago I think all i did was take a shower everyday and i was fine, now, i'm like washing it with anti-bacterial soap every 3 hours! I guess ignorance really is bliss and knowledge of bacteria and its affects sometimes can make one a little more OCD than they need to be :)

I would always defer to the artist doing the tattoo for advice. If you dont trust their advice on aftercare I wouldnt trust them to tattoo me. I used bacetracin to heal for years, dont really like it. If you do use it, use very little. Keep the tattoo clean and dont over-apply anything. I dont mind the tattoo goo/black cat/ink fixx salves at all, and prefer them to petroleum based products. Keep the tattoo clean and dont over-apply anything.
And quit using antibacterial soap...wat too harsh and it kills GOOD bacteria as well as bad....scroll to other aftercare posts.... Bacitracin is good just use MINUTE amounts and never use it for over 3-4 days...A lot of my clients use Berts Badger Balm which can be found in Cracker Barrel restaurants believe it ir not and it is GOOD stuff!!!...TAz, Painted Angel
I’m not a tattoo artist but have been tattooed. I used bacetracin for the first two days after my last tattoo, which I got 17 days ago. I used regular bar (Dial) bath soap and an Aloe Vera and vitamin E skin care product. About two days ago the hair on my arm started growing out more and it started to itch. I started using a 1%Hydrocortisone anti itch cream. It worked fine. I have other tattoos and I used tattoo goo and bag balm both worked fine. I guess if I was going to give anyone any advice it would be keep it clean and moist don’t let it get dry and flaky. If it starts bothering you clean it and talk with the artist who did the work. Mostly common since will get you through it.
