how do i know if my tattoo is infected? what kind of signs will there be? cause i just got it done yesterday and its still a little red and when i walk sometimes, i got it on my ankle, it hurts. and when i put a & d ointment on, it feels like a sunburn. help!!!

That -sounds- normal, without seeing it, it's hard to tell.
That is a tender area, and it's going to be irritated for a bit. Just remember, to wash it gently with unscented, mild soap. Don't goop on the ointment, you want to use the ointment sparingly, massage it into the skin.
You want a slight sheen to the skin, not shiny, sticky, goopy, yuckiness. You don't want anything to stick to the tattoo.
If you are worried, best thing I can tell you is to see your doctor. Just remember, this is an open wound, It might take a few days for the pain and redness to lessen.
