itchy bumps on tattoo

6 messages · last activity 5/24/2011

I have a cover up tattoo on my right shoulder that I have had for 4 yrs, for the last 2 weeks the older tattoo has raised up and is itching severly with several bumps on the entire tattoo. I have tried cortizone with no luck. Anyone know what this could be?
really hard to say could be different things ranging from medication,to food,to laundry soap.body lotion, new allergy onset something you came in contact with, the list really can go on.cortisone didnt help? well ya may want to see a doc of dermatology they may have something that can help.
ya could try benadryl also see if that helps
I have the same thing. I got an old tattoo reoutlined because the older one was a bit faded. After about 3-4 years little itchy bumps have been forming on the outline of this tattoo. No where else, just on the parts reoutlined. Some have disappeared after about a year but others continue to form further along the outline. Still researching but just wanted you to know... your not alone.
That's crazy. I just started noticing those same bumps you're talking about on my right shoulder tattoo. I've had this tattoo for a year now and it's just now starting to do this. I just typed in this question to google to find an answer. ha. -Nicole. Let me know if you find anything out?
I have 1 Tat, back in 2008 it was raised and itchy and irritated on and off for over a few weeks at a time, I did internet searches of why this could happen with many people having the same issues. I figured I had somehow developed an allergic reaction for a tattoo that was 10 years old and tried using over the counter creams, with no help. I went to the dermatologist and had them biopsy the tattoo and they diagnosed me with sarcoidosis. She gave me a steroid cream and the bumps went away in an instant. Well now I deal with the symptoms of my dieses. If you are having problems get tested before major damage is done to your heart and lungs. Good luck.
