well your still young so heres some good advice for ya and it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. first draw draw draw take as many art classes as you can get familiar with blood born pathogens go to conventions keep mouth shut and watch artist and listen.get yourself a aprenticeship in a trusted reputabile shop.work at it for a while plan in the future say 5 or 6 or even 10 years down the road PATIENCE IS A KEY IN THIS BUISS!! opening a shop when your 27 is not out of the question and by that time you may be in tattooing long enough to say fuck this im just being a artist to hell with my own shop you never know.you may decide quite the oposite also.but draw and draw and draw more poke around learn what ya can and keep it close to you and dear you MUST make this a way of life not just a fad because its so cooooooooooooooooolllllll.ive busted my ass spent months away from my wife and kids slept in the shop and such just to get where i am and im still learning .hope this helps best of luck in your venture and get used to being treated rudely and such as this is a very very hard industry to SUCESSFULLY get into (don)
No doubt. I personally think that you're at a good age to get into it. However, theres an order to things. Like erlich said, draw your ass off. Once you come up with a good amount of work that you're really proud of, seek an apprenticeship with someone who's willing. getting tattooed by really good artists helps too. If you really want to make it, its going to take time and patience. Its (usually) best to be a tattooist before trying to be a shop owner. Tattooing can be a double-edged sword at times and if you attempt to open a studio with no real knowledge of how to tattoo, your artists (if you can get 'em) may not respect you. Work at it though, tattoo for a couple of years and see how you feel. If thats still the route you want to go, then talk to some people and have at it. Its not going to be as easy as some instruction booklet ("Step 1: Step 2:"), tattooing can be very demanding and at times take away everything that you used to know as your 'normal life'. Your heart needs to be in it to get where you want to be. Dont let anyone deter you. Best of luck
