Kat's portraits are what inspired me to start drawing again. Her work is definitly top notch. I think from what we see, she treats her clients well and seems very easy going and excited for them and their new tattoos. The few times she stood her ground, I felt she was in the right to stand up for herself, regardless of weather she was actually "right" or just presenting the "other side" of the situation. I felt her points were valid. I don't think that makes her a bitch, just strong enough to have an opinion and a say in the art she creates.

I've heard plenty of mixed reviews, and while her protfolio is good I know plenty of artists whos portfolio is as good if not stronger (many on this website's tattoo galleries). Her new show has a SLAMMING lineup of artists and guests. We usually decline corperate advertisers, but in the next 2 weeks Im kinda happy to be promoting the new show. Tattoo Wars should be pretty awesome too, there are exciting times to come as the new wave of TV shows showcase some of the tattoo worlds best talent.

unlike some people think, Kat Von D, is a VERY good tattoo artist, she takes her stuff out more than most tattoo artists, if you think she is bad, maybe you should think again, maybe thats why she is on tv showing her stuff, i would love for her to do my tats.

To the prior poster: One thing for sure is that she is not on TV because of her tattooing, she is on TV because of her acting, look and controversy. Producers dig that, so does the public.

Ok. Yes she is a good portrait artist. And easy on the eyes. That is about all that I can give her. In her first episode, her machines/utencils were not bagged (covered with a disposable baggie) to prevent cross contamination. She was tattooing out of someones random home---not her own. By doing this she again disregarded the basic reason why customers come to you, not the other way around. She is making a mockery of the business and allowing for non-tattooed patrons to not know the difference. These tattoo shows are allowing an entirely new genre of people open their eyes to the world of tattooing--but leaving them uneducated about the difference between a good quality shop and a bad one. She may be famous, she may be a great portrait artist, but she runs a bad, high priced, unsterilized shop.

Does anyone else find it funny that the person who started this thread has posted nothing since they started it? They come in, say Kat is a bitch with nothing else in the post and then leave, never to return. Looks like someone just wanted to start some shit and then sit back and watch. Personally, i love her work and I think she's hot. to modest artist, i was agreein with you til you mentioned the unsterilized shop part. i can guarantee you that any licensed shop in the state of california practices sterile procedures and has a functioning autoclave on site. and not every artist bags their machine (though it is good practice to keep things clean) its personal preference. im curious, have you been to high voltage tattoo since it opened? i doubt it. so you should really not be slandering a business's good name needlessly just because you may not like the owner.......now can we find somethin useful to talk about?

eric, You are missing my point entirely......You are correct in saying that I have never been to her shop. I have although been to numerous shops around the U.S and Mexico--too many of them were not clean. They as shop owners chose to not take every preventative measure to ensure a clean shop. The average customer watching her show is not going to be aware of what a truly 'clean shop' should look like. So, where it is her choice to not bag her machine, and also her choice to work in an unsterilized environment--as a celebrity tattoo artist teaching the world about the business, she should not be making those poor choices---at least not on camera. Its your choice to wear the condom.....same idea implies here.

Yes Women deserve a sertain ampout of respect more than men, we have to remember to be a gentleman. But it does'nt mean that they deserve pampering and have things handed out to them. Lack of character may not be enough to call someone a bitch, but lack of character combined with acting like a bitch qualifies as such. on a different note I caught the last 10 minutes or so of LA Ink yesterday and I almost threw up. They have her narrating in her monotone, emotionless voice which is bad enough, and then they have at least one horrible artist. I only caught the last 10 minutes so I only saw one tattoo done by another one of the female artist, so I can't say anything about the rest just yet. But, wow, she was bad. First, as I'm watching her lay down the outline, the lines are all crooked and she's not even really trying to stretch the skin to lay it down. Then, when they cut to the shot of her shading, I noticed that the crooked ass lines she was making had beeen thickened about 3 times more than their original size just to make it look halfway decent (it still looked pretty bad since they were thicker in some areas than others). Either way the actual artwork for the tattoo was pretty shitty, but the lines were straight to start off with on the stencil (she drew them using a protractor so they were definitely straight to start off with) and she F'd them up pretty good on the skin. Of course, at the end when the customer sees it she's like: "Oh my god it's so beautiful" because she knows nothing about tattoos and just wanted to be on t.v. anyway. It was an ugly piece of two overlapping circles with a night scene in one and a day scene in the other over water. God, it was bad...the show, the tattoos, everything. I mean Miami Ink is cheesy as hell, but I've never seen such crooked ass lines on that show. Maybe yoji's and nunez's have been a little crooked, but never that bad. Either way, I'm pretty sure no one thinks that Nunez or Yoji are the greatest artists anyway so that's besides the point. Nunez is good when he wants to be, but he's just lazy and does the generic tribals and such and Yoji is just a musician who plays a tattoo artist. I don't know the name of the chic who did the tat on LA Ink, but she's not very good. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I don't think so. It sucks because I want to watch the show and see if any decent visiting artists will be there and what cool work will come out, but I find myself having to change the channel because all I can do is notice how much it totally sucks and how stupid and snobby most women from California are.

I think it's dangerous for an entire industry to place the responsibility on one person to represent them as a whole. I've seen doctors, cops, contractors, hair stylists, etc.. all watch shows about the industries they're in and they all do the same thing - criticize. I say worry about what YOU are doing because I gaurantee we could watch any one of you and point out a few things that we don't think are up to par. Yeah, I thought that Kat's voiceover was the weakest part of LA Ink, though I thought all the tattoos done on the show were pretty good, some awesome. As a show, its very stupid. BUT I do think that, from the tattoos I saw on the first episode, that the show will do good things. Hearing Hannah talk was awesome, even the TV cant mask the fact she is really smart. I thought all the tattoos we're awesome, I think if they are showing quality tattoos on TV and the general public can see whats really possible, then you might see the public going towards talented tattoo artists *instead* of underground or crappy studio artists. I hear Nikko did a guest spot at LA Ink, and the line-up for Tattoo Wars is awesome. Im feeling pretty good about the new shows, of course its going to be stupid, its a horrible age for TV, but at least the tattoos will be getting better and better.

Whats interesting to see, is the people who put her up on a pedestal dont realize that many of the custom tattoo artists who surf this website (and their clients) have earned more respect through talented longer harder work than Kat did. Look through the tattoo galleries on this website and you will find plenty that have less talent and respect, and many who have more. I know *many* tattoo artists that compare to her talent and quality of work that would represent tattooing as well if not better. Giving kudos where its due is one thing, but when people give her more respect than she has earned, well, people will call her out. Not Tattoo Wars tough, all A listers so far. And the artists on LA ink are all great. So, thanks to the networks for listening and stacking the deck with great custom tattoo artists. Am I the only person who has never watched this show? I have met some extremely talented tattoo artists and most of them are too busy to watch tv and/or do not care to own one. I'm not sure that artists are watching this. If you were tattooing all day, dealing with the business side and customers, are you going to go home and watch someone else do it too? I'm supposing most artists chose to be artists and would rather remain artists then reality tv stars. This show I would guess is made for the public, not for the industry. Bitch or not, I do not know, the whole thing seems weird to me, and it's funny how customers expect all shops to be just like Miami Ink or LA Ink. I have never been in two shops that are exactly the same or have the same dynamics. I guess at the end of the day we each do what we see fit to pay the bills.

Here's a great reason why she's a bitch, coming out of a feminists mouth. I have a $1200 tattoo that's no larger than my hand done by her. First off, it was 3 hours, the hole time she didn't say ONE word to me. Anytime I talked to her, she was rude. I explained that my tattoo was for my uncle who commited suicide, and she said, word for word "Wow, real orinigal, because I don't get people in here everyday with the same sap story". For one, if she didn't want to hear it, she shouldn't of asked. Also, the tattoo was simple words, and I had to have it fixed because the needles were not sunk deep enough, and it faded completely in less than a month. SHE'S A BITCH! Honestly, I IDOLED her until I met her.

I liked Kat. Key word here is "liked". I thought she was this cool tatted chick who was a gangsta girl and repped everything dark and sick in a good way...until I watched L.A.
