No, you don't want to do that. Just pull on the end of your tip when you're stroking your length. That should do the trick.

Totally misleading! the reply worse than the question. What you can do to increase the length of your stroke is to get the proper training to get familiar with equipment and craft.

I agree with FK, I 'd suspect your lack of even knowing the proper name of the part is a pretty good clue to your lack of knowledge/training.
