Umm. I disagree. People either "get it" when it comes to tattoos/body modification or they "don't get it" . That makes a big difference in your compatibility with someone. I couldn't be with someone who didn't like tattoos. I think it's becoming a society issue / division, of those who like tattoos, and those who don't. And, maybe tattoos just turn that guy on or something...people should be allowed to be attracted to the one they want to be with.I don't think it's shallow. A Girls Perpective! Tima

Well, yeah. In the past I've met guys who flat out didn't like tattoos on girls, especially larger and more visible tattoos. Or, i've met guys who would ask me out, and on a date would say something like "tattoos on girls = trashy" without even realizing that I had some. Because when they met me, the weather outside was cool and I had long sleeves on .That was awkward. I think the stigma for women with tattoos has gotten a little better over the years though, now that more and more women are getting visible work done.But, I think society still has a long way to go in terms of judging a women's character who likes having tattoos. Tima, I think a lot of the way tattoos are perceived has a lot to do with the way they flow with the lines of the body, and how much density is involved. I don't have any sleeves, but I do have three decent size tats on my arms, and both feet and ankles. I've always been careful to consider how things flow, so that they don't seem so obtrusive, and with one exception, comments by people who even notice have always been positive. I think it's key to not completely blot out natural skin tone, so that the tat looks like it lying on the skin rather than IS the skin, but this is entirely my opinion. TCE

TCE~ I think you're right. I have lived with a pretty washed up looking piece that was done on my arm 6 years ago. The design was my idea, so I have always liked it's concept. It was done by my friends ex boyfriend, who is a pretty big tattoo artist (he has his own studio) in South Florida. At the time he did it, they were on the rocks,(I didn't know ) so let's just say he didn't do his best work. I had blind trust in him, and was only 24, so didn't know as much about tattoos as I know now. When I asked him months later to politely re-work it, he said it looked "fine". It just "stuck out", was obstrusive (like you said) and didn't flow with the lines of my body at all. I would avoid wearing tanktops because of it. Finally, years later, this past Saturday, I bit the bullet and went to someone in Atlanta who totally reoutlined, added shading, depth, backround and flow. It's beautiful. A whole new tattoo. And, looks so much better. Amazing. So, though I pretty much have almost a quarter sleeve now, it looks much better than that obstrusive half ass tattoo I lived with which seemed like forever. Tima

Here's the deal. If you can find a good person, wether they are tattooed or not, you should count your blessings. Tattoos don't mean a thing. Or, at least, they shouldn't anyway. They are purely visual. If none of us had eyes, I'd bet may of us would wind up with very, very different people than we did. One of the best ways that we as tattooed people can erase the perception issues between us and non-tattooed people is to make sure that we are not the ones that are making it an issue. Then, if the other "side" does the same, no more issue. Of course we all have the right to our preferences, but just remember, skin deep is just that... skin deep.

I know a few couples where one has tattoos and the other doesn't like tattoos. Tattoos and the way one looks should not make or break a relationship (in general...there does need to be some attraction I'll admit). If the couple is mature enough and loves one another enough than all that appears on the surface doesn't matter. Dana Z
