While it's just my opinion,based on over 40 years in this profession,personally I would strongly advise against getting a marijuana design, particularily in any place visible as I don't think you have considered the possible ramifications involved, like trying to find gainful employement and the inherent strip searches for you and anyone else who is with you when a cop sees it. Does the term 'probable cause'mean anything to you? And you might want to consider that if you have any herb in you vehicle when you are strip searched you also run the risk of having your vehicle confinscated. Just something you might want to consider

Do you REALLY want that on your body when you're say....40? If you choose to have kids, they'll see it and then it's sort of hard to explain how doing drugs is bad, etc... Read the above post from some of the old timers and what they say is true. They've been around awhile.

Not to mention my mother was GONE, as in, NO CONTACT, for a MONTH (not including before it got to that point) when i was in 9th grade because of a dope addiction and she nearly DIED on several occasions because of it. She's been clean from that for over 3 years, but STILL has to go to classes and take methadone so they cravings wont come back. I have three nieces that are about to have divorced parents because their father drinks like a fish and couldn't/can't get his act together. Too bad their mom (my sister) is too full of herself to take care of them right, and smokes herself, ALWAYS around the kids. At their age, every 30 minutes they are around cigarette smoke it's like them smoking 5-10 cigarettes themselves. And no, holding it out of the window or being outside doesn't help...it's a gas people. So think about that if you smoke around your young ones. She complains about the father, but not when it means she can sneak around and get high. I have a nephew with a mother that cares more about partying and drinking on the weekends than taking care of her son, who's actual father is barely in the picture anymore because of violence at home. Then, she drives around, WITH HIM IN THE CAR, after drinking. But, "she can handle her beer well". My best friend from 8th-11th grade is on so many medications she could have a heart attack at any moment and has completely changed. I can't even talk to her anymore. Almost all the people i work with at Old Navy (my age) are always talkin about how they have hangovers and how they get drunk and smoke (pot, etc) and blah blah blah. YES, when used correctly, these things may not seem harmful. But what about all the dumbfucks that just put themselves and everyone else in danger? There are a lot more of them then there are people who use/drink responcibly. I have my reasons to think they shouldn't be as open to the public as they are, and here are just a few. And that's just about all i have to say. So go on, hit another one.

Ducky, of course I am sad to hear of the horrible stories of your friends and family. Of course I have many similar stories of my own. That doesnt mean, of course, that the zillions of responsible people deserve to have horrific accidents happen to them because you dont have any positive experiences with the weed. Its easy to blame things for your friends actions, but the bottom line is they are responsible for their own actions, and shifting the blame to a drug is not going to solve the problem. I know many druggies who were still assholes after cleaning up. Your friends (and mine) are responsible for their actions, not their drug of choice. To me, wishing ill on people who make reasonable decisions is intolerant. I would never not get a tattoo because the law man is watching, Im surprised that so many people would let the MAN dictate what they would get tattooed, especially an unjust one.

My unckle Paul used to have a big pot leaf of his inner forearm. He got it when he was young. It caused him a lot of stess when it came to finding work. He also didn't think it was appropriate once he had children (three cousins) so he got it covered up. Now he has a big pather's head where the leaf once was and he hates it. Now I know that there could have been better designs to cover it, but the point remains the same: He chose a tattoo on a whim that complicated his life and lregretted it later. Everyone changes. You'd have to have the intelligence of a stick to not evolve emotionally as the years go by. When it comes to tattoos that may be contraversial, I highly reccomend investing in getting a very nice design drawn up and then sitting on it for a year. If you still want it, great. If you're still unsure, wait some more. If you decide that you don't want the tattoo after all, but still like the subject, frame the art you've invested in and show it to company.

Fact...the posession and use of marijuana is largely illegal Fact...flagrant display of illegal drug designs CAN get you harassed,searched and possibly jailed. I've read a lot of this thread, and stayed out of it. At this point, I'll put my two cents in. Do I care if people smoke pot? Nope. By all means, go right ahead. Get stoned, play some Halo, eat a pizza and fall asleep by 10. Doesn't bother me none. Do I think said people should get leaves tattooed on their body? Nope. As for the why weed is illegal: weed was the in-betweener ban. In the US, it was a constitutional right to ingest any drug of choice: However, around WW1, Opium was being used too frequently to numb the pains of war, leaving the strong and able-bodied men unable to fight the battles. The consitution had to be amended, and opium was outlawed. Next was heroin, which was frequently prescribed for pain, temporary blindness, and coughing (heroin originated as a cough suppressant). After that came Mary Jay: simply because of the cotton industry's inability to compete with the superiority of hemp. They lobbied the govt, weed was banned NOT for it's smokability, but so you couldn't make clothing or rope out of it. Just a little insight. Secondly, the "stoner stereotype" exists for a reason. From all the stoners and former stoners (myself included) I have known, it's (for the most part) true. You smoke some pot at night, you eat some cheetos, you giggle, think and watch tv, and you fall asleep. So, honestly, I could give two flying farts if someone wants to smoke a little pot. I apologize for the uptight responses you got to your question. I do find it odd how self expression is generously encouraged unless there are stupid archaic laws involved... Things wont change if people are too scared to be themselves... In any event, well over a third of our visitors come from outside the US so while the majority of traffic is from the United States there are some 300,000 people visiting this site from outside this country the servers reside in. I LOVE the rest of the world ( I spent a few months working in Belgium and the Netherlands and almost moved there) and kinda try to discourage nationalistic behavior when possible(I was picked on as a kid and have an inherent distrust for crowds). Gabe, I have to say that none of my critisisms were based off of the legal standpoint of marijuana. I base my opinions off of the effect of the drug itself. It slows down brain cells, incourages lazyness, and often times is a gateway drug for worse things. To me, this is as stupid as banging your head against the wall, and no, I do not encourage banging your head against the wall. So yeah, I do encourage self expression, but that doesn't mean I'm going to praise everyone for it. If I don't agree with a person's form of self expression, I'm going to say so, I'm going to express myself! Well...I myself have a marijuana leaf tatoo. I have had it for 3 years now. And yes...it is very visible. It's light green an about 5 by 5 inchs big on the left side of my neck(From behind my ear to my shoulder). But i dont regret a thing. The detail is done pefect down to the veins in the leaves and all. It hasnt got me into trouble yet. Mainly when a cop see's it they give it a compliment and wanna know did it hurt. maybe thats just the cops in my city though, who knows. But its a very good topic starter..and a great advertisement for selling weed. You would be surprised how many ppl just start a conversation out the blue because they seen my tatoo...i even had ppl give me free weed just cuz they seen my tatoo...But i dont know where i got my picture from. Ok, well way back to Gabe asking why it was illegal this is the reason, this is in the age when our country I hate to say was very intolerant of minorities. And see the youth of America was hanging out at jazz clubs smoking Blacks and Mexicans. There was also a early DEA type administration that was on the brink of being shut down. I have a bud tattooed from my nuckles past my wrist. Ive had it for several years, and never have any problems from it, in fact only true stoners realize what it is. However, it was not my first visible tattoo (by visible I mean not covered by a long sleeve collared shirt). Im over 40 and just dont care what people think. HAHA, These people are fools. I have a huge tattoo sprawling across my back that I got LAST fall that reads WEED. The letters are about 6 inches tall and about 18 inches across total. I only got the outline of the letters for now because I wanted to let it heal for the summer so I wouldn't have to be clothed this whole time. I have never, i repeat, NEVER been harassed by the 5-0. I plan on getting it filled in with an overlapping leaf pattern. I've already designed a little something for my lower back including having tow plants on each side of a white rhino. People have made valid points that this type of tattoo can cause alot of trouble in the wearer's future. I'm 19, and a proud smoker. I'm a lifer.. pot has helped me medically for the last year, and I'm not ashamed of who knows it. Yes.. there are reprocussions with the law involving this, and when I'm older, I have plans on proudly telling my children that I decided to rebel against discrimination to support something that saved my life many times over. Ps. I've also decided to get "420 PRIDE". Thank you for giving me yet another good reason for doing this.

I think this is one of those gray areas for a lot of tattoo artists where they have to play morality police. I think it would be inappropriate to tattoo a pot leaf on an 18 year old who may grow out of it. Although if some 30 year old came in who was pretty much a confirmed perma-pot smoker and already has made descisions about other aspects of their life (career, etc..) then I say go for it.
