Luggage Check

8 messages · last activity 3/24/2007

Okay so I am about to fly from Virginia, to Seattle to do a guest spot in a tattoo shop out there. Basically I am wondering if I will have any problems taking inks, power supply, machine, green soap, tools, etc on a plane with me? Would it be okay for me to use this as a carry-on? Or would I have to check this luggage in for it to be placed underneath the plane? And at that, would it be okay for me to even bring these instruments and liquids anyhow?
We have never had a problem, just make sure that your travel cases are easily accessible as to the content so they can be readily inspected. WARNING- watch your pigment with extreme altitude changes, you can have a very colorful explosion in your suitcases!! Bag them in sealed bags!!!
I am thinking that I am going to take everything minus the things that I can just buy when I get there. Machines, Power Supply, Ink, Needles, Tubes (disposable), Green Soap, Thermofax paper, etc. So I should just check this in with the airport, and everything will be fine? I know you can legally fly with ammunition and stuff, so I don't see why tattoo equipment would be a problem. I just don't trust the USPS to mail it to Seattle.
Like I said man I have travelled both before and after 9/11 and although its a bit harder now as long as you are upfront and honest with airport security you shouldn't have a problem.I would have some creds like business cards, copy of business license etc.
Thanks

You cannot carry anything on the plain that's liquid over 300ml. Cologne, toothpaste, deodorant and such can be carried on a ziplock bag as long as they are smaller than 300ml (size of a medium bottle of cologne) I travel to UK with my tattoo gear and it shipped with the rest of my luggage. Don't even try to sneak things or you'll have to toss it or pick it up when you come back (if you are lucky to find it) Make sure to tape all your bottles and liquid containers. Seal everything. Don't lock the suitcase, shrink wrap it instead because they tend to freak when they see little suitcases locked and they will break it to check it. With the shrink wrap ($7-9 per luggage) if they break it to check it, they'll re wrap it again. Nowadays, flying is a total hassle.
My only concern is the airport employees actually stealing my power supply or my tattoo machines...
