cherries have been used to symbolize femine beauty as well as love and even divination.in ancient china they were a symbol of imortality or longevity.in japan the cherry was the samurai"s symbol, for these warriors the crushing of the fruits flesh (to reach the hard pit within)was a symbol of sacraficing human flesh to get to the core of the person.in tattoo art work it is not uncommon to see the cherries paired as they might come in nature.they can appear by themselves or sometimes in the mouth of a classic swallow in these western context they take on a sexual overtone about virginity and its loss that is variously interpeted as gone forever or heres mine wheres yours.(SHIP) as far as i can find in my book of tattoo encyclopedia the meaning of just a ship does not exist although it would consit of the sailor area maritime and sees and such showing the journey or ship that they were once with it couyld stand for more likely a journey of life that has signifance to the collector
