With reality TV flooding screens around the world... finally, a glimse in the day to day life of a tattooist. What are your views in reguards to the two shows?
MIAMI INK (TLC) vs. INKED (A&E) ...
158 messages · last activity 12/4/2007
I got thisone nailed down tight...I posted it elsewhere...but you asked here:
In a nutshell,
Inked (A&E): A show about small business dynamics that just happens to be set in a tattoo studio.
Miami Ink(TLC): Show about tattooing that just happens to be set in a dynamic small business.
Watch Miami Ink if you love tattooing, Inked if you love soap operas.

It would be nice to see tattoos every now and then on both the shows, but not so much on Miami Ink. It's kinda funny how fake Miami is though. Like when the guy got a heart on his chest, then like three episodes later he still had the stencel on him when Youji's wife's water broke. And the time Ami just couldn't concentrate so he went boxing, then walked out of the same room with the same clothes at the same time of day as when he went to box and was suddenly ready to draw.
JSun I notice that too on the Miami Ink episode That is totaly bullshit about him trying to consentrate by fighting in a Gym a true tattoo artist will over come all that crap with out having to hit a bag I watch both shows and I for once would like to see more Ink work done I have seen some of the work of Miami in and hey they are good but that day when they send that girl out that wanted to cover up that tattoo that she over grew on her back and they turn her away and told her to have it laser removed first and then they can do something on her back WOW that part blew me up I could have cover that up for her Is all creativines. Me for one I think that they in the show should show more tattoo art work and less story telling and that day he went to kick that bag it was for the world to know that he Fights martial art big deal I too am a Martial artist and I am a 4th degree Black belt and that has nothing to do with tattoo and in the Inked show why do I care if the blond girl and her boyfriend are a pair of drunks please more tattoo work and less drama for all those people that watch the show for the love of the art if I want drama I watch WWE My friend good point in the detail that you pointed out at least I am not the only one out there that notice this things. Take good care.
Bottom line, TV is for entertainment, not education. Maimi Ink at least has some good artists. Personally, I think reality TV is a tool of the MAN to suck the creativity out of people and to instill a good sence of merchandising. Its very transparent, too. I mean, MTV doesnt play music and you cant learn shit from the learning channel.
Now LOST, thats a TV show. A rare gem the the nasty smoogy airwaves of crapola.
The tattoo TV show are likely to turn on a whole new slew of people to getting tattooed. It'll make more hacks wanna be tattoo artists. Ah, the cycle of life and economics and ethics goes on and on and on and....
Again I will agree with you Gabe, and one thing I do hope comes out of these two show is that people will learn more about tattoo world and us the people that do tattoo and I hope we get more and more show out there that do expose tattoo in a positive way in a real way not all of us are people with out education and Tattoo in Vegas and Maimi Ink are not perfect but are the best thing out in tv hey we have the shows on building bad ass bikes, rebuild bad ass car,re fix your apartment hey why not have two or more shows out there on tattoo I for one would like to have the challenge of having a show dedicate on fixing those ugly ass tattoo and covering up some other tattoos and putting some bad ass work out there with some others tattoo artist. Hey Gabe since you and I seem to have the same point of view in a lot of things out here we can start something too with any other artists out there. Right now I am planning to do something in my shop Called Pain and Pleasure please read my new topic and let me know what you think.
Caribou--
You might think you know what you are talking about.. But Anthony Hart, (Carey's brother) is an old friend. And "INKED" (Hart & Huntington) is not a "small" business, if anything it's more of a new shop. They have already commited to open up a shop in California, Colorado, and somewhere in Europe. And if you think it's more of a soap opera, don't watch it.. What a concept eh?
I watch both the shows. I'm a sucker for anything on tv involving tattoo (tivo wish list item) but I've been working for the better part of 10 years getting my drawing skills up to par before I go to hunt for an apprenticeship, and I'm thinking these shows are going to make it a bit more difficult to be taken seriously when I start my quest. I guess I just fear the shows may take away from the truly dedicated people with a very deep respect for tattooing as an art form. However, it is definitely something that I think will help the art form gain some approval from those not within the tattoo culture. So I see it as a double edged sword in many ways.
I watched both of these shows when they first aired, and got one distinct difference. While miami ink tends to focus a little much on shop politics, they also show tattooing, and the stories behind the tattoos, which I like. Call me crazy, but it seems to me like inked is just basically the real world, but it happens to take place mostly in a tattoo shop. If you are interested more in drama, and crappy plot lines, watch inked, but if you actually want to see pretty decent tattoos, tune into TLC instead.
inked is more about the running of the business and miami ink is more about the artwork and the customers stories.
the real question is, out of all the people on the show, who is your favorite artist. mine would be that twig guy on inked.
I have not seen the show Inked, but i have been watching Miami Ink. I think what people need to realize is that no matter what the TV show, half of it is going to be made up. For me, i look at what i will get out of it. I never really understood tattoos before, even though my mom and sisters have them. After watching Miami Ink, i see all the different reasons to be tattooed, and i am very interested in finding out more.
Also, don't worry about who will be trying to get into tattooing after this point. A true tattoo artist will know someone with a true love of the art :)

Hey zzigzagzen
If you think "small business" only applies to a guy with a hotdog stand then you are right, however in the spectrum from hotdog stand to Microsoft, H&H is a small business...(I didn't say Carey or his brother your old friend had small dicks, so just relax...) Your response is a great example of the kind of drama/macho energy that Inked is all about...
Further more...Did I say anything about not liking soap operas?...Paying attention to what people actually post! What a concept eh?
I also noticed "Tweak". Very impressive artist and it was nice to watch his segment.
last night was the first time i wanted miami ink vs inked A&E and i so enjoyed miami the most due that they showed people getting tattooed. its hit in my book............but i will still watch inked A&E yeah i know i am a ink junkie.

Don't forget to tip your artist
I think that these are great shows! Miami Ink in my opinion, is a better show because of the way that the tattoo artists show off their work. Inked is a good show, but there is so much drama that it kinda makes it suck a little. I want to see others tattoos and hear their stories...that is whhat tattoos are about. Telling your stories and remembering why you got them in the first place.
All I can say is TV sucks but miami ink and inked make my hate it more the King of Rock had it right pull the 45 and blast the TV.
Maybe I'm a little partial because my husband works at Hart & Huntington and is on the A&E show Inked.... Don't judge so quickly, it's all real.... There's good artists at Miami Ink, but it's a differnt shop and a differnt story,..... Vegas is full of drama, that's why Inked has so much drama... it's not just the lights and the boobs that are overdone it's almost everything.... You either let it roll off your back and move on or you become part of it... you'll see next season.... Just wanted to put some inside info out there... Remember it's two different shows and two different stories... if your looking for the artwork keep an eye on Twig.... I hope you guys enjoy watching....

P.S. We've been to Mimai Ink and they where super cool, too bad we didn't meet anyone who's on the show.
I have watched both programs, but favor Miami Ink. One can't discount the talent and skills they portray through their work. Perhaps I am bias since I live a couple hours from Miami - which leads me to this question: does anyone know of the phone number or address for the tattoo shop Miami Ink represents? I have done a couple searches and came up empty handed. I will be in Miami for a concert and would love to check out their shop. I would appreciate any info provided. Thank you, and no offense towards Inked. If I was in Las Vegas, I'd probably end up in their shop at some point.
I have been watching both shows since they both started and I have to say I like both shows. The story lines are as different as going from one shop to another . Both shows are so different because they are in two toatally different parts of the country . Me I grew up in miami but I have visited LV before and I can understand why they are so much different .I do enjoy the inked a little more though due to the ppl on that show crack me up . You take Thomas he's a PIMP that fucker is are hard ass but i like how he gets shit done .
The reason why both shows are different is because one focuses more on the art itself and the customers receiving the art, and the other focuses more on the pathetic soap-opera type drama that goes on in that particular shop, and nothing to do with different parts of the country, because you will find both situations in any 1 city alone.
It's your right to favor one show over another and you won't be wrong for your opinion, but keep in mind, neither one is portrays the industry in a "realistic" type of way. Ratings are key for a TV show, and whatever they have to do to boost the ratings to get another season out of it will always lure another sucker into pay attention.
Well, I've been a bit out of the loop and all, but I have some problems with the show Inked. I think my biggest qualm would be the fact that the boss, Tomas I think, seems to just show up in a bad mood and yells at people, drinks his coffee, and enforces the "everyone wear the H&H merch all the time" rule (which by the way, I really don't like the designs). I mean, granted I've never been to LV and don't know any of the people who work there, but it seems a bit too corporate for me. I'm used to having the owner of the shop be a part of the shop: being there, tattooing, hanging out -- you know, being part of the team. It just doesn't seem authentic to me somehow.
I know there are those who disagree and I know some of you guys out there even are close to the people who work there, so I really mean no disrespect to anyone who works there because there seems to be a lot of quality work coming out of the shop. I think I just have a different idea of what the tattooing community ideally would be and I've grown up around the types of shops that I think are more closer to that ideal.
So what does it matter if the show is "authentic" but the work is poor? Well, of course if the art that comes out of a shop is low quality then it doesn't matter how great the people inside the shop are and i wouldn't recommend anyone going to a place like that. But, if there are two shops of high quality art and one is a shop like H&H and the other is like the shops that are near and dear to my heart, you can guess which one I'm going to support.
Just one man's opinion and I encourage you to go to whatever shop you want.
Those guys on Inked are beauties.
They take their shirts off to show their 'artwork'. They're all over weight and their tattoos are all crap you can't even tell what they are.
The best thing that the show Inked does is warn people that just because you walk into a tattoo shop don't think the people in there are any good.
That's probably why they don't really show that many tattoos on Inked. It's all of their soap opera crap.
It's no wonder nobody can stand to work there. They are constantly berating the employees anyway calling them lazy
(that's when you can even understand what they are saying between all of the bleeps).
I think Inked is just an attempt to get on the tattoo bandwagon in a hot location with mediocre art.
Miami Ink on the other hand shows serious artists. That one girl Kat can create a tattoo that looks like a photograph.
Miami Ink also does a better job of having a theme to each episode. Like one episode was all memorial type art.
Jeff Marzano
if your in vegas go to mastermind tattoos brian is the shit there young but talented across the street from scores (INKED) show is not bad but the shop is like any thing else in a casino over priced and shit they wont do any free hand just flash art unless you know a artist ( kat von d is dope)
fuck tv and fuck eploitation
i hate you
I would hate to think I was represented in any way by any of the morons on either show. I thank the good lord no one with any intelligence takes either show seriously or wastes that much of their lives watching that cheeseball shit.
ok.. listen.. who cares.. we do good tattoos.. thats all that matters..
not only do we do good tattoos, miami beach is one of the biggest vaction spots on the east coast for people 21-39yrs old.. they see the TV and when they come to miami they see me..
This is so exciting Omi the guy on Miami Ink actually replied to this message board.
I wanted to mention how I noticed the depths of tragedy some of the people on the show talked about.
The one girl's father committed suicide as did one of the artist's father also.
Then the other guy drove drunk without knowing his friend was in the back of the truck and ended up putting him in a wheel chair. It appears that he has never gotten over this.
Then another customer's leg was all skrewed up because he got run over by a taxi cab.
I didn't realize tattoos were so meaningful for people.
Now I feel bad about what I said about the artists on Inked. After watching it some more they are good also.
I'll be following both of these shows closely since I may want to get into the business. It is very educational.
The situation in Vegas is different than Miami. I think in Vegas people probably just walk in more whereas on Miami Ink they may be working more closely with the artists over a longer time period and get more elaborate tattoos I don't know.
However everything being said I think Kat is the best tattoo artist I have seen so far on these shows. She is so unusual. I guess she dropped out of high school at age 16 so I assume she doesn't have any type of art degree from college.
I want to get a gigantic tattoo from Kat showing Doomsday fighting with Superman on my entire back.
Jeff Marzano
Sorry to burst your bubble but i highly doubt that reply is legit. If it was really "OMI JAMES" from Miami Ink, I'm sure, he of all people would know that his own first name is correctly spelled AMI.
I was checking out miami ink and I found these videos. Check out the very last one. Is it common practice to use a stencil for a 3/4 sleeve? copy and paste

-in responce to the post above-
Alright, i'm not gonna pretend i know how to tattoo...just gonna go off of what i've seen, heard, and read.
When you get a tattoo, pd, don't you always stencil first to make sure the placement is okay and the customer is happy with the final design?
IF yes, would you not do the same with a sleave?
I would also think that usually, when people get a sleave done, they do a lot of different tattoos, and slowly add on, making it longer. So, each tattoo would be stencilled on, and tattooed. In this ep. he wanted the whole thing done at one time. So, IF that is how a sleave is done, i think it would make sense to stencil it. Instead of a bunch of smaller tattoos stencilled and done at different times, it was all just done at once.
does that make sense?
yes it makes sense I just thought it was interesting he had to draw the stencil twice and then draw it on anyway.
The only comment I have to all of this is I really could care less w/ is better, all I know is half my costomers come in and ask me if I've seen the shows, well I'm to busy but, apparently I missed some episode where a girl got one on her foot, 'cause now I have a bunch of tattoo newbies wanting their feet done, and to that I plead: Please wash your feet, cut your toenails, make them slightly presentable. PS: your feet are a sensative area, if you've never gotten a tattoo, and your not sure how well you can take pain please don't start w/ your foot.Thanks. Sinfully Skittlez
THEY BOTH SUCK !PERIOD!living the dream
Obiously when your mind is narrow you don't pay full attention... Inked has great artists, they just did a whole show a few weeks ago with Twig doing portraits of people who had passed away... and can I mention they where SICK.... com on people pay attention!!!! not to mention the shows they have done on the other artists in the shop...
One guy is a friend of his who's daughter was run over by a car... it's a really messed up situation... One of the other ones was a woman who lost one of her kids and was referred to him by 2 other people in her support group for paernts who have lost childern...
And they are not all over wieght... I've been married to Twig for going on 5 years... I see him everyday and he doesn't even look close to fat to me...
The problem the show is having is that they had to change the producers... The last ones where slacking a little...They are showing much bigger and better pieces... and as for them only doing flash... I don't think so... my husband comes home almost every night with something to draw up for somebody....
But the bottom line is like I said before: two differnt shows and two different shops in two ditternt vaction towns....
Me and my husband went to Miami Ink when we viseted my family in Miami... They where great... super cool guys... we didn't meet anyone whos on the show... we met the regular artists...
I guess they arent there too much... you can walk into Hart & Huntington any day of the week and find someone thats on the show...
I just wish people would pay attention and not be so angery or nasty about stuff... I encourage you to watch whatever show you like better... but don't be so positive about things you don't pay attention to please...
Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!!!
Coco
I went to H&H to get a portrait by clark or twig, and the staff just gave me the run around told me i needed a bigger picture and it had to be the original. Your right there are talented artists there, but they were not trying to help so there for they suck. Happy holidays thou
sorry to keep ranting but they also said the two portraits that i wanted would cost $1000 and i got it don for $500 and the people were cool as fuck and its the shit. its not H&H's fault there in a casino every thing in a casino is over priced
I was in Vegas in October and checked out the H&H shop, just to see what the place was like and if it was for real. I talked with Brian (who is the Manager on the show), told him about the ideas that I had and he basically said it could not be done due to "lack of space on my arm", "wrong color choice", and a few other things I tuned out. As soon as I mentioned that I was not picking a design from their samples, the whole conversaiton seemed to change.
In late November, I went to a great custom shop in the area, an artist drew it up and it is now on my body. All of the ideas that I had from before were captured perfectly and I feel that it was extremely well done. Drawing it out, working with the customer, bouncing ideas around (i.e. all of the stuff that should happen) takes to much time I guess for some shops. The folks at H&H seem like nice people to maybe drink a beer with, but my experience did not come close to what is portrayed on the show...
Those portraits Twig did of that lady's kid's were awesome..I think he's an excellent tattooer..And i really like Josh, and Matt's work too.
I have restrained a bit before I posted any opinions here, but alas I cannot hold my tongue. Normally don't watch much TV, but I was a captive audience in a hotel room on my tattoo travels this year. This post is entirely a matter of opinion.
Crtique of Miami Ink:
-Who does Ami think he is telling someone they can't get this or that on face or neck???!!! It is not his body. Sure, its his shop and has every right to hire/fire who he wants. But to supress an artist's self expression, apprentice or not, is simply beyond my comprehension.
- I have chosen people to teach ...BUT... Never ONCE have I demeaned and disrespected them as to make them take care of my personal business (ahem... dry cleaning or car washing) without offering adequate compensation. I'm sorry, but apprentices are NOT slaves. They do grunt work, sure, but it's not so hard to part with a tip for the person scrubbing the toilet with a toothbrush is it?
- It was HORRIBLE and extremely selfish for the guys to risk the life and health of (Yoji?) the apprentice by making him eat raw food for a few bucks and a laugh. How about just give him the hundred bucks? After all he's about to have a kid and busts his ass, instead of bullying him around!? Oh, wait. Its TV. Duh. Guess that makes me the moron.
-My opinion is the owner is a high-adrenaline sports lover making a killing off the hard working backs of truly passionate artists, like Chris Garver. Chris seems to be one of the few there with REAL ART in his blood. That is not to say I haven't seen some clean work by Ami, but this is obvious (to me): tattoo art is not his first passion.
- Am I the only one that almost puked when they saw the half hearted "custom" cherry creek hummingbird, or the "freehand" tribal shoulder mess from that show? That wouldn't fly in my place.
- Everyone slips from time to time, but at least show up on time for appointments. Better yet, communicate with employees about their client's appointments.
- Overall I am ashamed this show represents our industry. Jackass is a cool show. Tattoo Jackass is not.
Regarding Inked:
-I have been to the website. Overall clean presentation, and some good work. I like they are trying to get artistic diversity. Perhaps the shop is trying to be overly volume oreinted. It looks like too many artists competing for the same dollar.
- I have not watched the show, so I can't give an opinion here, other than I am skeptical about most non-artist owners of tattoo studios. That is unless they give back more to the tattoo and modification community than they get. For instance: Gabe, TattooNOW, and Off the Map would be an exeption to "my" rule. I'm critical because I came up in "biker first, tattooer second" type shops.
- If I get stuck in a hotel again, and they have the channel, you can bet my thoughts about it will be posted here.

I know this dun have anything to do with the topic, but i have been looking at your site and been AMAZED by the work you and the other artists have done. I am like, in love with how they are so different, and i just wish i lived closer cuz, when i do get my tattoo, that's the kinda art i'm lookin for. You guys rock.
Thanks Ducky!
Disclaimer: my review of the Miami show is based on older episodes, I'm guessing. I keep reading about an artist named Kat doing work there now. I did not see her on the shows I watched.
I have an artist friend on myspace by the name Kat. If she is the same person as on the show, she does excellent work.
I looked on your MySpace friends list, and that is the same Kat as the one that they had on the show. One of the guys broke his arm in a car crash and they asked her to join the shop :) she did some AMAZING work
there all well versed in tattooing lots to learn from both shows so i like them both the same were forever learning .
Seems like everyone here is forgetting that things get edited and fixed up to make a 30 min show (which is truly only 20 min 10 min advertising) most tattoos take at lest 2 visits and they combine them together so we can see the whole process in one show/ sessions so if you see a guy get the tattoo done then see him with the stencil still on it just shows that the editors are crappy at what they do not that the shows are fixed or fake and if your paying that much attention then maybe you should looking in to becoming some sort of artist cuz you see things in great detail or you need to stop jocking Ami ! :)
CAN ANY ONE GIV EME THE ADDRESS OF THE SHOP PLEASE
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THE ADRESS OF THE SHOP PLEASE

im not sure we have inked in the uk?? would def watch it if it was, i love miami ink, a bunch of talented guys...a couple not bad lookin either! i wouldn't mind gettin tattooed by them!! i wonder how you would get an appointment there? does anyone know? and about how much their rates are?? thanx
P.s whats you guys opinion on girls with tattoos?
I think the show ( Miami Ink ) is very interesting. I've Drawn Tact's for people to have them placed on there bodies, but never accually seen them put onto. Kind of nice. I my self will not get one but I'm interested in trying to see how they start. Truthfully I'm trying to get into AirBrushing. Anyone out there who might know a good way/ or Place to start, Please E-Mail me with the info if possible.I got a lot of start up off the internet but I would like too find out about Classes in the Southern Cali, area.Found 1 in Australia and Canada and those places are just a little bit too far. Once again the show is interesting and lke a lot of people say " It's just a show"
I have never really watch Miami Ink until tonight, nothing was on and they had a marathon of it on..ive watched inked from time to time cause its usually on before or after dog..lol..my opinion both great places and great artist. It just seems that Inked cause more into things outside the shop and stuff while Miami Ink is pretty much about the tattooing and I have to say some of the work is beautiful coming out of there, i can only aspire to be as talented as that one day...i see alot of people downing people for using stencils and copying but if you watch the show they have tons of picture books where they come up with some of there drawinga and copy them right out of the book and other times they do there own pieces.
Does anyone know the phone number to locate the artists at Miami Ink to set up an appointment? Thank you
I know you can find Kat on myspace and she has an assistant who books appointment with her...I dont know who you want but maybe the others have a page over there or maybe by going to Miami Ink link youll find that info there.
Wow...after reading a bunch of the comments on this board it really makes me wonder about Inked and the prices that they have. I am heading down to Vegas for a conference in April and was really hoping to get some professional advice on finishing my half sleeve. I expected to pay more for the tattoo, but not double as listed earlier. I was really hoping to have Twig do my tattoo up real nice....I guess I will have to wait and see what they say when I arrive at H&H.....I sure hope they don't push me away cause I don't want something out of a book!!!!

i feel both shows should be takin off the air tattooing has been going strong for years. these shows are are just soaps.this is doing no good for tattooing i think these guys are selling out for the cash hell in one show off miami ink the headline was riches tear artist apart thats a bunch of bull because they got rich when they signed the t.v deal.i don't know ; i just wach it sometimes for a good laf.
Hey skurb,
Not that I'm any reliable source of info, but if I was going to be in Las Vegas I'd definitely be looking to meet Ryan Downie for ink...at Pussykat tattoo.
Sorry for hijacking the thread with this off topic...
luv he show class...id love to go to the shop but u have to be 21 and in only 18...so maybe when i turn 21...lol

I absolutely love the Miami Ink programme, I get butterflies in my stomach when I'm waiting for it to come on. The guys are great but Kat is the best. Please, please keep her on at your shop as a permenant member. She will, if she hasn't already, bring customers flooding in. She has a natural talent and beauty and I am sure people will travel many miles to have her work on their body.
I have three tattoos my first was on my 50th birthday and I love them.
Apart from the thrill of watching an artist at work and seeing the end results it is interesting to hear the customers personal reasons for wanting a tattoo and the happiness the end result brings to them makes me very emotional. Keep up the good work. Love Sandy
I sent you an Email earlier but thought I was writing to the show on Channel 250 Sunday Night at 10pm Miami Ink. Obviously I have made a mistake. Please disregard and trash can my comments and details as they are of no interest to you. Thank you.
If i can think of one really good thing miami ink has done for the industy, it would be that people are seeing what can be done with tattoos. It has set a higher standard of the customers coming into our shop. i think it's greatto see customers come into our shop and have a higher expectation than just some flash off the wall. but thats just me!
miami ink and inked both suck wait to mr cartoon does his show
those fool are weak we need to see real tats.....not general hospital
Pride,
I've seen some awesome tattoos on the show Miami ink, and it's a TV show, so they have to give stories. And i've seen some pretty shitty tattoos in tattoo shops. Don't be mad cuz it's on TV...if anything shows like that grow an interest and better understanding of the subject matter. I used to be against the idea of tattoos, but by watching that show, i got to understand that it is a real art form, and it's used to preserve memories. Don't be so harsh.
Ducky you are soooo smart...specially sine ya usually agree with me!...Taz
SINCE NOT SINE!!!! I am a dumba$&!!! Taz the idiot
Thanks Taz, I try

Miami Ink definitely has an edge over Inked, mostly because of the lack of shop drama. But it would be unfair to say that neither of them do good work compared to Mr. Cartoon. Every artist has a different style and the type of tattoos that Cartoon does are nowhere near the same subject matter that Ami James and company produce.
If theres anyone whos living a rockstar life from tattooing, it would be Cartoon. His main claim to fame tattooing a bunch of rappers and having an insanely steep $1000 minimum on his work. He's good, i'll give him props where they're due, but thats not what real artists do either...
both shows are about drama...miami ink the dudes got major attitude...inked is just too much drama...out of both shows MIAMI INK is much better..
ok Mario...ya got me on this one ...maybe because I have refused to watch MTV for many years...who da fug is MR Cartoon??Taz
To PRIDE....so in your opinion all the artists on the show Miami Ink are WEAK?... Kat Von D is WEAK?..Only one of the most accomplished b&g artists in existance! Chris Garver who is an amazing "artists artist" And you have the total lack of intelligence to say they are weak compared to Dr Cartoon?
My friend your ignorance is only exceeded by your absence of brain cells!!!!... While I am not a big fan of either show I do not feel the need to denigrate the obviously top level work done on Miami Ink...Lets see some pics of YOUR work Pride....TAz
Well Taz, Mr Cartoon is a west coast artist who has made a living tattooing mainly celebrities and doing artwork for clothing lines. If you or anyone you know have heard of Travis Barker, Eminem, Method Man, Fat Joe, Nas, Dr. Dre, or Justin Timberlake, he's tattooed 'em all. He puts out killer work that really appeals to those who live a streetwise lifestyle, sort of like Boog from Phat Graphs. His work has blown up over on that end and he's got a $1000 minimum on any design he lays down.
Extremely talented guy but a little pricey.
i think Miami Ink is great,we don't get Inked in the uk so i have no opinion on that.i have a few tattoos, and have a few more designs ready to get done.i think its good to hear the reasons why the people are getting the tatts done i always think its good to get them for a reason not just for the sake of it or because all your mates have them.yes you see guys in one show getting inked then see them again a couple of shows later, but thats tv for you.editors obviously are not the greatest.i think Chris Garver is one of the best artists i have ever seen, way better than any i've ever seen here in the uk.and Kat Von D's tattooing skills are amaizing.
Mr. Cartoon is very good, don't get me wrong, but just because he charges $1000 minimum doesn't mean he is THAT good, it looks to me that he just has a reputation around the hip-hop community and those that make a gazillion dollars making records can say that they have one of his tattoos just because it's cool to spend over a grand on a tattoo, it's all about showing off in that lifestyle, the over hyped over the top cars, clothes, jewelry, and now the tattoos from someone who charges alot. There are better artists that charge less. Remember, Dom Perignon (sp?) is over $100 a bottle, but it's not THAT good, just a label to brag about.
Ok Mario I checked Mr Cartoon out and he is obiously very successful (not to mention that he saves a lot of money not having to buy any colored pigments!) In my opinion he is a good solid artist who lucked onto a clientelle that apparently has more money than sense. Don't get me wrong..I ain't hatin! LOL! The man found a niche for his art that just happens to consist of a client base that defines conspicuous consumption. The whole mtv hip hop culture just is not my style.I was raised in South Central L.A. and saw countless barrio artists that work out of the back of old vans do a half sleeve black & gray in 4 hours or less with a "gun" made out of a cassette player motor and a guitar string and a bic pen! ANd their work was AMAZING!!! ALL "true freehand" that is needle to skin...no stencil or drawing it on first.
If you ever visit the Barrio in south central ( and unless you have a :ghetto pass" You probably shouldn't go there at night!) Ask any of the streeters about "Fuzzy" or "Roofy" or "nicky the ghost"or
"Snowman56" Those are REAL Gansta tattooers dude.No hollywood hype there!
I'm not at all impressed by Cartoons thousand dollar minimum and to be honest I'm not all that impressed by his ink either.I respect his success but I urge ya to keep the hype in perspective Look at Kat Von D...her work is light years ahead of Cartoons and she damn sure does not have a $500 minimum.
Anyway I ain't mad at him ...far from it...I think its great he can find suckers uh oh! I mean customers that will cough up a wad of cash to get some little better than mediocre work. All the little MTV groupies are our (the real working artists in the trenches) future bread and butter.Lets think a minute though before we place this guy on a pedastle...Like a lot of the hip hop artists out there and the so called "gangstas" He is most probably a product of a good public relations firm...Hollywood Hype and publicity can make anyone anything....T
Speakin of Hype lets talk about that great rapper from Detroit Eminem aka marshall Mathers....The man is actually from right here in the little town I now call home St Joseph Mo. I know his mom and his aunt and I;ve met him and if anybody can be called a product of MTV hype he is the posterboy!!! Detroit my ass!!!..T
No doubt Taz, Kat Von D is without a doubt one of the best black and grey artists out there, plus she's much more humble about her work. Hats off to you, Kat!
Kat and don't forget Bob Tyrrell!
I don't know about how humble he is cuz all i know of him is the show...but don't forget Chris Garver either
I did not include Bob Tyrell because I truly believe that he is not human at all ...he is some kind of super talented mutant from a different reality or planet, he is just too GOOD!!! its creepy and I would appreciate it if he would just quit tattooing and go back where he came from and quit making us mortal artists look bad!!!
DAMMIT!!!!!!.....................................................................TAz
...Umm, I think i agree with that?
Bob Tyrell is ridiculously talented and does seem to have mastered black and grey in his own special way that no ordinary human is capable of.
But yeah, there are plenty of extremely brilliant artists who are doing killer black and grey work...
yeah bob tyrell is amazing truly!!! Also check out Dan Henk, Albert Rosal, Robert Hernandez to name a few more!!! Youll be amazed!!! By the way they are all friends, go figure, lol.
yeah bob tyrell is amazing truly!!! Also check out Dan Henk, Albert Rosal, Robert Hernandez to name a few more!!! Youll be amazed!!! By the way they are all friends, go figure, lol.
TAZ.. is right eminem is from st. joe missouri.
and this post shows who the pros here are.
cus anyone who dosn't think kat and chris garver are the best artist on those 2 shows are crazy.
but i don't watch those shows alot, i tattoo almost everyday, so when i get off work i don't want to see it on TV
i also don't relly think it's helping our industry, yea more people are getting tattooed.
but i get so tired of people walking in saying i want this tattoo cus i saw it on inked.
what happened to tattoos having a meaning. i get so tired of doing butterflies and clover leafs, because someone saw them on inked.
"""It would be nice to see tattoos every now and then on both the shows, but not so much on Miami Ink. It's kinda funny how fake Miami is though. Like when the guy got a heart on his chest, then like three episodes later he still had the stencel on him when Youji's wife's water broke. And the time Ami just couldn't concentrate so he went boxing, then walked out of the same room with the same clothes at the same time of day as when he went to box and was suddenly ready to draw."""""
I would blame that on a bad continuity with how thet shot and edited. Most likely they (the producers/production co.) were hoping you wouldn't notice.
I had never seen Inked till I read this thread, so I Tivo'd it. You do get a glimpse now and then of some amazing work, but it seems a lot of the work is flash due to the "When In Vegas" mentality of their clientele. I think both shows try and show the human side of the tattoo artists which I actually like. There are so many amazing artists who could have their own shows too out there, but I think most folks (i.e. GQ public) tune in for the more of the "life behind the scenes" IMO. My guess is the producers, who tend to have most control, know this and script/guide the show in that direction. The one Inked show that had me laughing was when Thomas had the gal's leg to tattoo. OMG, that poor guy had the week from hell.
You think these people represent the industry well?? Check this out...what is wrong with this picture. And before you say it' s a fake, IT ISN'T. She is actually doing the tattoo.
And this shit is posted on her own site.
That's very responsible, huh?
http://www.katvond.net/images/upheaval/finland/fin23.jpg
Holy shit, I just lost all the respect I had for her.
like i said in the above post these shows are getting us more business but they are bringing down the industry.
that photo shows the type of shit that the industry has been
put down for, for years.
tattooing with out any gloves on and what looks like a hotel room
with everyone drinking.
that is not what the industry needs.
there are other pics in that gallery showing the same thing. I can't explain how dissapointed I am in her. As talented as she is, she should know better, definitely setting a bad example to the hopefuls and wannabes out there. Just a matter of time before we hear "But Kat from Miami Ink doesn't use gloves so it's ok"
can I ask a really naive question? When wearing gloves, are you protecting yourself or, the client? Is it the cross contamination of thier blood and possible a small cut you may have, etc? If so, THAT picture is really out there.
The gloves work both ways. They protect the artist from anything the client may have, and the client from anything the tattooist may have.
Anyone who would take that risk today should be avoided at all cost.
While i believe an artist should ALWAYS wear gloves, i think this may possibly be a pic from her birthday party that she recently celebrated
And that justifies it HOW????
You can't get or spread a virus on your birthday?? Is that some scientific rule I am unaware of??
To keepinit reel...That pic was obviously not Kat doin a tattoo ..I know her well and she would NEVER tattoo without gloves in that kind of position...Quit trippin....She is ascrupulously clean artist...its a joke pic dude!...TAz
That is an outright lie. It certainly is her, and if you look at the rest of the pics, it shows the tattoo she is doing. There are 3 pics of her doing tattoos with no gloves. It is most definately her.
http://www.katvond.net/images/upheaval/finland/fin01.jpg
http://www.katvond.net/images/upheaval/finland/fin21.jpg
http://www.katvond.net/images/upheaval/finland/fin23.jpg
http://www.katvond.net/images/upheaval/finland/fin24.jpg
Try to bullshit anyone you want....that's her.
If you paid attention to what I wrote I did not say it wasn't her dude...only that she would never tattoo without gloves on a person layin on another person....It wasn't real. But just to be sure I'll call her up tomorrow and ask...Now come on...this girl is one of the foremost female tattoo artist around ...Do ya really think?....
And by the way I am a lot of things but I am not a liar....That was not called for....If you are ever around the kansas city area gimme a call and we can talk about this IN PERSON!!!!!! TAz
If she denies it, ask about the ink smeared on her hands in the pics...the ink smeared on the tattoos the pics clearly show her doing.
Even if it is a joke (not buying it) why would someone with as much responsibility to the industry as her, post pics like that on the internet? Do you feel that is wise? Do you feel it is professional?
Fact is, THERE IS NO VALID EXCUSE. Period. Real or not, it was absolutely irresponsible for someone in her position to post those pics, cause that confusion, and make this industry look bad. That lacks the respect necessary to be called a tattooist, as far as many are concerned.
Have her explain why this was good for the industry. How posting such pics elevates tattooing to new levels. How she expected the general public to know they were faked (if they were, and I don't believe they were).
Ask, in all her wisdom, as one of the foremost female tattooists, how this is good for her and the rest ofd the tattoo world.
I DO AGREE that those photos should NEVER have been posted ANYWHERE...I'm just tellin ya man she just would not do that for real...If only you knew her you'D see I was right. But don't worry I AM gonna confront her about why she would let that irresponsible shit get posted..and I thank you for bringin it to my attention...and after this I guarantee that a LOT of people are gonna ask her .."WHATDAFUCK"...AT least give her a chance to explain....any artist of her caliber does have an IMMENSE responsiblity to portray our profession in a proper mannr...Now THAT I agree with 100%...Just reserve judgement til she has a chance to respond...TAz
She has every right to respond....but when she put it out there, she gave the entire world the right to judge, also. And many have. You keep saying she would never do that....but she posted pics of it. How can you be so sure that someone irresponsible enough to post those pics would not do the tattoos that way? There is a great deal of evidence in those photos to support that it is real. What evidence can you see in the pics (other than your trust in her) that would give us reason to feel they are fakes? Have you looked at them closely? Have you watched the show? I have seen every one of them do things I would have fired them for.
QUESTION? WHERES THE FUCKING ROD AND NEEDLE IN THAT THAT MACHINE? THERE AINT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IT GOT IT GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i truly belive that these are just poses for the folks in the picture to say he look at how FUCKED UP WE GOT AT THE PARTY! I QUESTION ANY ONE WHO FEELS DIFF! kat is a responsibile artist and shes for DAMM SURE ON HER CROSS CONTAM PROCEDURES AND ALL!!!!! fucking jealous ingrades if any of you EVEN HAVE A FUCKING CLUE ABOUT TATTOO THEN YOU WOULD REALISE THAT THOSE OF US THAT ARE PROS WOULD REALISE HEY ITS A PROP FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS!!!!!! come on now i tattooed 3 lovely ladies one night for ones b day man the camera flash was blinding me but when it was all said and done there was a lot of cash in my pocket but even better THE FACT THAT I GAVE 3 VERY NICE LADIES A B DAY THEY WILL NEVER FORGET!! and to get that honor from someone you dont even know is FAR WORTH MORE THAN MONEY CAN GIVE! therefore it is in my PROFESSIONAL OPION THAT THESE PHOTOS ARE A PROP! NOW LETS GET TO MORE IMPORTANT SUBJECTS IN OUR LIFE!!!!!!!
Thanks Don...Man I'm gettin stoked about the new shop where ever the fuck we put it....We are gonna be poopin in tall wheat bro!!!!!..TAz
no worries mate
Go into photoshop and enlarge the photos. You will be able to see a needlebar. Guaranteed. Try again.
GET IT GOT IT GOOD!!!!!!
GET IT GOT IT GOOD!!!!!!
And anyone who was a pro would never post pics like that, props or not. It is too irresponsible, and gives people the wrong idea that such things are alright. So, the rest doesn't matter.
Miami Ink is the better of the two, hands down, no contest whatsoever. I've been a fan of Chris Garver for a few years even before he was on Miami Ink.
The artists on Inked are talentless jerks who are nothing more than whiny bitches who cant get along or keep one employee for more than one week.
i personally like both of the shows. sometimes i think that it might just be for advertisment
i personally like miami ink they are more real then ink because oh the fact ink ( A&E) is to boring they are more funny and outgoing i love all yall guys
i personally like miami ink they are more real then ink because oh the fact ink ( A&E) is to boring they are more funny and outgoing i love all yall guys
I LOVE MIAMI INK
I gotta say, its a good thing and a bad thing to put tattoo shops on tv. Theres some things im not happy with, i had to spend some time finding out through apprenticeships and trialnerror thats valuble info they exploit on there shows. the artist going on i guess feel they get publicity but at the same time being exploited. The good thing is that people are getting used to tattoos and society is easing slowly into a new phase of body art. Hopefully new types of art will emerge in the tattoo community and open another catagory in tattoos than the same ol same ol. sorry tradional gents. anyway tv sucks go out and get some excercise.
BR06 - Brother RayLee
OR instead of tv you could work on your drawings...JWERK< NUTTYand ANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We refuse to watch Inked at this point and doubt that we ever will. A&E posted a glossary on their website entitled shop talk, or something like that. What is odd is that it is word for word the Glossary writen by Karen at tattoo.about.com, including the organization of the glossary, that was writen by Karen 4 years ago, to this day A&E refuses to change it and ignores any notification of the copyright infringement. So as choppy as Miami Ink is, and how many fun things you can point out in editing, that is the one that gets the attention in our household.
Don
check out this interview on needled with a artist Clark from inked...
http://www.needled.com/archives/2006/05/inkeds_clark_north_speaks_out.php#more
I met a couple of those from Miami Ink. They were extremelly "full of theirselves." Arrogance were pouring out of their veins. I wanted to get a tat there but because of there attitudes I decide to just leave.
I wouldn't suggest anyone go get any tats from there. Since the t.v. show has high ratings there prices went up as well. I would suggest just sticking to a good California tat artist.
Oh you mean like Chris Garver?....Yeah he is from Miami Ink and that man has NO attitude...one of the nicest guys in the business...just very quiet...some people who don't know Chris take that for having an attitude but he doesn't...and he IS a California artist!
Near the beginning of this thread, some one said something about lazer removal then have a cover up re: Miami ink. I think the colour of ink on that womans back was too much to get a GOOD quality cover up. Take it from one who knows. Lazer hurts like shit!!! DAMM ouch!!!, but it does lighten up the area. The lazer actually heats and explodes the ink within your skin for the body to slowly flush it out over time. Now that the ink is almost removed...let the skin heal for a minimum of a year, then go for your cover up. You'll be glad you did, because now the picture underneath won't bleed thru over time, messing up a wonderful cover up piece of ART.
thanx
theadora
Miami Ink is the best show b/c, Ami James is freakin hot, Chris Garver looks like Anthony Edwards and the other guys are cute too.
Can't say I really watch a show for the"hot guys"....Does antone watch the show for the content?...namely TATTOOING?????????
hey, what do you know 2 of my favorit shows. I think they nead more tattooing show on the week ends cus there is nothing on and I luv thoes shows
hey taz and ducky both of you are crazzy, but in a good way.I like that It makes me lafh.
""""Chris Garver looks like Anthony Edwards """""
......and Anthoney Edwards is hot? Did ya see him in Nerd's?
Miami INk def. wins .. it about the art and alittle bit about the people .. INKD just has drama .. drama .. and more bullshit DRAMA
Me personally i love Miami Ink and i want Ami James to do a tattoo for me....i think Miami Ink has some great stories that really speak to you. you can learn alot of life lessons from some of the episodes.....i have seen Inked but i dont think it is as good of a show as Miami Ink....but tattoos are tattoos, love em' or hate em' people have them and it's great that there are shows about them.
Televisions sucks, reality is way more interesting. Monty Pythons Flying Circus reruns are ,of course, the exception. Actually, British TV programming is way more interesting than North American television overall, I also got hooked on a show last year called Life on Mars.
I have to agree, British television is more interesting :)
artists shouldnt watch tv.
artists shouldnt watch tv.
Out of sheer curiosity, why shouldn't artists watch tv?
I have to agree with the British television thought. I was completely addicted to Absolutely Fabulous for the longest time.
For some reason, i have never been able to linger long on either show, which is strange, because in theory, it's just what i'd love to watch.
Then again, reality shows that deal with my other interests also fail to pop my cork: "American Chopper", "Biker Build-off", and the boxing shows too... maybe i just have a very mainstream TV muscle; i'm more interested in the tattoos/bikes/fights than watching the train-wreck lives of some of the paticipants.
It's different OFF tv of course; nothing holds my interest more than the ups and downs (the latter usually including a broken bone or two) of my biking friends; my tattoo artist and i chat about life while he's inking me, and, well, i don't know any boxers.
Aaaaaa...MEN, Caribou! WAY too much soap on Inked. I want to see more tattoos and the stories behind them. LOVE Miami Ink!
Iz
OK.......If any of you guys out there have seen the show "HELL"S KITCHEN" you know its intense......I don't own a TV but caught an episode last week at a friends house. IF! I agreed with there being ANY.. tattoo reality shows on TV, then it would be an even mix of 3......first, Trumps "Apprentice" this "Hells kitchen" show and the whole tattoo aspect (not nesecarilly the current 2).
So the show would be mostly based off H.K but instead of cooking it would be tattoo apprentices (hence the Trump show aspect). These apprentices would endure a series of tests preparing them for tattooing.....being eliminated one by one week by week show by show ...... the winner does not get his/her own shop (like on the show hells kitchen) they instead get a permanent extended apprenticeship with a shop in order to further study their craft and build a clientelle.
The show should be rough....just like H.K (That show makes being a chef look less appealing) This is how tattooing should be presented ((IF AT ALL)) to the public....not from the rock star angle ....let me know what yall think.
,,,
I didn't watch Miami Ink until a couple weeks ago when there was a "marathon" on.....Just cuz I didn't want to bother with the "sanitized mainstreamed version of industry that makes EVERYONE want to do it.. .like play poker and make custom cars.. ".
Ok, so maybe that still happens.... but I was honestly surprised by how much they featured the art on there and showed the different styles - even with the "let's make it interesting and personal" stuff :P
Most good artist don't have time for TV its all about the art. TV sucks just like the radio what a waste of time go out and do something good.
What in the fuck is going maimi Ink started out as some kick as art it use to be a great show but now i dont know what it is it reminds of very sad attempt or spinoff of Mtvs Realworld and Realworld sucked from the first 5 minutes it just goes to show you what happens when tattoo art and artest get to big and go comercail what self respecting artest would put up with that bullshit thats on inked the show should be named as mami turns ,or days of mami.
any true artest would have did a kicking cover up on the girls back i could have done something she could have been proud of but we all know the real artest you dont see bad ass artest like Mr Paul Booth or Gill Montie doing Bullshit Tv Shows there to busy producing kick ass quilty Ink work
learn to spell and shut the fuck up the horse is dead.
LOVE MIAMI INK.... This show is about artist work and look how great they are.. Kate is awesome all those folks are they work they do on their show can have so many meanings. Their clients leave happy with memories of both sad and happy time in their lives. Like someone said you either LOVE OR HATE tattoos.
I got to love them and the SHOW IS GREAT!
but we all know the real artest you dont see bad ass artest like Mr Paul Booth
check MTV
Miami Ink is way better than Inked because in Inked all they do is complain about EVERYTHING!!!!! In Miami Ink they actually do their job and show people getting a tattoo that means something to them instead of showing how bad their workers are... I don't like Miami Ink because I live in Miami, I used to love Inked until I saw Miami Ink, and saw how better the show really is. Miami Ink is by far the BEST tatto show ever. Even though I am only 15 I am planning on getting a tattoo that means something to me, and I want to get it done by Ami.... from Miami Ink.
I have to say that miami ink is so much better than ink- well the artist are better anyways even tough Ami is such an ass to everyone. next tat that I want is from Garver!
When I wake up in the morning
And the 'larm lets out a warning
I don't think I'll ever make it on time
By the time I got my books I give myself a look
I'm at the corner just in time to see the bus slide by
It's alright cause I'm saved by the bell
If the teacher pops a test I know I'm a mess
And my dog ate all my homework last night
Riding low in my chair she won't know that I'm there
If I can hand it in tomorrow it'll be alright
It's alright cause I'm saved by the bell
It's alright cause I'm saved by the... (2X)
It's alright cause I'm saved by the bell.
I love both the shows although I haven't seen Inked in a while..is it still on A&E?...I love Miami Ink because they focus on their clients and the reasons behind the tatoos..they are such an incredible, crazy group of people and everyone of them is hot!!..Inked seems to be about the drama of running a tattoo shop and I miss Thomas like crazy...I just don't think he is replaceable...after watching both these shows I think more and more about the art of tattooing and how meaningful they are to people...would I have the nerve to get one?...I don't know...I find the whole topic of tattooing really cool and fascinating...I really find it amazing how much more mainstream tattoos have become...I love it!!

I think it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont believe bringing tattooing to the mainstream is necessarily a bad thing as long as its done responsibly.
Before tattooing would be accepted on TV, there were amazing artists putting out exceptional work on the public for decades hustling their collective asses off to push their art upwards and onwards. Its always going to be hard to see the public flock to a few after the hard work of so many put them there. That bright spotlight burns bright, the artists on TV really need to be thankful to the many that helped put them there. While these shows do peak the interest of many viewers and bring them into the tattoo world, it does it through a very warped world. The problem many have is lots of the people these shows bring into tattooing believe the hype, and then mix with the real tattoo aficionados and old timers and bam, the clash. My hope is many of these folks will learn about the real nature of custom tattooing. You kinda have to unlearn what the TV fed you, then learn again. the good news is the real tattoo culture is even better! Cause the TV shows really dont push the art of tattooing to new heights, they are kinda fun to watch stupid drama I guess. With some good tattooing in odd parts of the reality TV world blender.
The lessons that tattooing teaches are very powerful to the public. Becoming a good client and good tattoos requires patience, learning, mental endurance, and art appreciation... being positive and open is rewarded greatly. Imagine, an artform that was "cool" and spread like wildfire that teaches the public how to be patient and responsible with their skin, to learn about artwork and how to communicate with the visual languages.... Theres a big opportunity here for the masses to learn really good lesson and change for the better. While the TV shows might not push these things, there are plenty of artists and studios and collectives who have and do, and the TV shows will amp up the volume of folks who will walk that path. The TV is missing out on an opportunity to *REALLY* push the art and industry up because they use their very influential voice for drama over education, but hey, who am I to judge how they use their airtime.
folks who love TV, make sure you check out the tattoo gallery for a half hour once a week... It'll be fun, loads of good stuff!
Just so everyone knows I got to see an AMI tattoo up close it was so bad the guy is having it removed and he told Ami to stop because it was bad. There are way better artist out there for the same money.Oh and I will be posting it for everyone to see on badtattoos.com.
Thanks Jack...I assume this is Jack...thanks for affirming what we already suspected!.....I have certainly seen worse but also seen much much better!!
Hearing a lot of great things about "rethink your ink"!!

I was on the first season... i had no idea what the show was about, i just wanted a tattoo and it worked out because it was free, very well done (by ami) and the people that worked there and the filming crew were very nice. I would go back whether i was on air or not.
Peace
Christine
Having watched the Miami Ink over here for a while now I would like more detail into the dynamics of getting a tattoo (tips) as well as more images of the tattoos themselves. Basic information on how to choose a decent tattoo shop... What to look for etc... i.e When I had a tattoo done the person would not do it for at least a week after initial request and choice of design as a cool down time. After the tattoo he physically showed me the breaking of the needles so they couldn't be used again. Also shown should be recommendations e.g. If unmarried women want a shoulder tattoo mention the fact that it may impact choice of wedding dress. Spouse/Girlfriend names should be avoided as, despite best intentions it could end up with separation (see Angelina Jodie and Billy Bob whatever). Children's names are fine as you will never change them :-) Saw an episode recently where someone proposed after getting a tattoo. While good television, if they ever separate the tattoo will always be a reminder.
With tattoos now popular I feel it is the responsibility of programs like this to include information like this. A tattoo is for life and although this is mentioned regularly additional information to think about should be included..

Hey, this is a shameless plug... If you have flown or are thinking of flying to Miami Ink for a tattoo vacation, you might want to consider flying to New England next October where 60+ of the worlds finest will be tattooing in one very nice resort in the hills of western mass during peak leaf season. rooms are only $109 a night, and the 2 and 3 bedroom condos are really really nice (some even have bunk beds!).
