Need help to detour a scratcher!

Ok so here is the situation... This guy at work (not a friend...just a co-worker) has decided to become a Garage guy.. (bought a kit on e-bay). I have tried to talk him out of it, but he is determined to start giving out tat's for free (so he can practice). I put him onto this site to read the different forums (hoping that it may knock some sense into him), he read em, and still thinks he gots what it takes! I brought up the sanitation issues, but he says he is gonna use sterilized needles. I asked what he is going to do about the tubes (steel ones came with the kit). He says he plans on cleaning them and then putting them in the oven (i can't recall what temp how long etc.. he said). I told him, that is still not good enough... He is going to do it anyways, so I figure that cleaning the tubes with an ultrasound and putting them in the oven is better then nothing... Don't get me wrong, I am not agreeing with his methods... I just think that if he is going to do it anyways... doing at least that much is better then nothing! Would you guys agree with me? Your thoughts......

That seems like a good approch.... but as I am in the ARMY, they tend to frown on us cuttin people's thumbs off! Not trying to get into any technical info or anything, but if he aint gonna spend the bucks to buy an autoclave, and is still gonna do tat's.. anything I can suggest to him to sterilize with? Like I said before, I don't agree with his methods.. but if he is gonna do it anyways.. I'd liek to see him be as safe as possible! (for the publics sake!!) No Baker I will answer right here...there is NO excuse to tattoo without an autoclave even the old obsolete Dry claves have been proven unsafe. You are asking us as professionals to endorse half assed safety measures and that just is not gonna happen. I see what you are tryin to do and think its great you are tryin to help your friend but your loyalty is misguided...this is not 20 years ago when you could get by with this dangerous shit...people are being prosecuted for tattooing in a lot of states and going to PRISON...not only that they are giving people diseases that are FATAL!!! I don't think anybody on this site will tell you that giving this person a ultrasonic will help him be safe...ultrasonics do not sterilize anything they just help remove excess blood and color from our instruments to PREPARE them for autoclave sterilization Halfway measures do not work..I only hope you are smart enough to say "NO" if he offers to tattoo you!!...TAz

you arent gonna get him to change his mind. i know it seems really bad but this is how some artists get started. but the oven thing that don't fly with me. If you cant talk him into buying an auutoclave at least try to talk him into buying some disposable tubes,needles etc. try to get him to buy some things to practice on first. A lot of the sites that sell disposable equipment will most likely have practice skin as well. make sure he wraps the shit out of everything he is gonna be touching in plastic and to always wear gloves and change them before he touches anything outside the wrapped work area. Thats pretty much all you can do if he has his mind made up especially considering if he has friends that are willing to let him do it to them. It's ultimately their decision and not yours but you sound like a good friend so keep drilling it in his head to be safe safe safeeeeeeeeee. and then tell him to be safe. Dont forget to tell him to be safe..and if you have time... tell him to be safe...........legacy

Assholes like this guys friend or whatever he is are NEVER concerned with safety! They just do not give a crap if they give some dumb fucker aids or hep...I guess the person lettin him tattoo them is partially to blame but FUCK man....it just amazes me how balls out stupid some people can be!! Im not one for tattle tailing, but the health guy might wanna know whats up....

this just has cross contamination written all over it. At the very least, the person in question should attend some preventing disease transmission classes along with Bloodbourne Pathogen training. People like that will most likely answer their cell phone with their dirty gloves on, adjusting their machines, etc. and then touch these same items without gloves after the tattoo, THEN touch everything else in plain view. And an oven? Hoo Boy, I hope your neck of the woods is ready for an epidemic.

Actually, a hot oven might be enough...(to sterilize the scratcher...not the equipment!)

Tell him it's not the heat from an autoclave that sterilizes, it's a steam-PREASURE sterilizer. Some bactiria just mas-produce by heat, thats why the health dept. in our state does not issue a permit unless you have an autoclave that is approved and can pass monthly endospore test, while wavacide is good, I let my tube sit in it for 30 min. before I wash and then autoclave) it is still not the safest bet. And when it comes to someone life I don't bet.

As I said a dry clave that sterilizes only by heat is considered OBSOLETE...heat alone will not do it...I could go into the realm of microspore reproductive issues but don't really think thats necessary..THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS IS AN AUTOCLAVE>>>PERIOD!!...and then only if it is used properly!!...TAz

what the fuck ....at least tell him to buy a $40-$60 pressure cooker with a pressure gauge on it from target! Then look up on line some methods on how to use it ....ie; time and pressure minimums. Then if that doesnt work... report him to the local health dept. Then sodomize him with some garden implements!
